Thanks to HyperX for sending us a HyperX Alloy Origins Core with Aqua switches for this comparison video.
The HyperX Reds are linear switches, whereas the Aquas are tactile switches. Both are very smooth, have minimal spring ping, have the LEDS connected to the switch, and the same stats.
HyperX Reds are better for gaming, and Aquas are better for typing. It's preference, but for beginners, I recommend getting Aquas.

Appreciate you all!
Wow the amount of new switches that have come out since I got back into keyboards is insane.
This is exactly where I’m at rn lol, I remember when I had to decide between cherry mx red blue or brown and then I found greens... and my life was changed.
@@ellepalmer I am caught between wanting to try all these new switches and thinking that it's mostly a lot of marketing hype. : ) Btw, aren't greens super heavy?
yeah they are
Really well made video, delivered much more information than I expected and I'm glad! Switching from a very comfy wireless membrane, you made me realize linears would probably suit me better atm. Sadly the red version isn't available for me so I'll have to wait for something else. Thank you, subbed!
Thank you for this video! I've been looking at this keyboard the past few days and wanted to make sure i was making the best decision with the switches so thank you and I'm going to get the aqua
I was in my local Best Buy picking up a new SSD, swearing that would be all I went to get, and ended up leaving with an Aqua HyperX 65 and their XL RGB Pulsefire mouse pad mat and I'm loving the pair. Great coverage in your content by the way. Keep up the great work.
Very nice and informative video with sound tests included, just the thing i was looking for! Thank you!
Wow, a great video with very in depth teaching about the keyboards AND a reply and like to so many comments, I think this video deserves a subscribe and a like. Nice job!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Think with all this pre-consideration when buying a keyboards comes the reality that you mentioned in the video, that whichever one you choose is what you'll need to get used to. When I bought my Hyper X ally core keyboard, I didn't know much about any of this, but I can tell you that I've come to love the red switches.
i finally found someone who explain it well
Great video and well explained! Just bought a Alloy Origins with HyperX Reds... Absolutely worth it!
Good choice!
I have blues as my first mechanical board. And I have to say that at first, I thought I'd may like linear better. But I have grown to love the bump and click. I can hear and feel when the key registers.
the opposite goes for me, I thought that I'd love the aqua ones, couldn't find any in store and got the red ones... and I ended up loving them.
@@ardishco Actually, Recently I got the HyperX Alloy Elite 2 because I saw the multimedia controls and game mode button to disable certain functions. I was hesitant because they didn’t have it in aqua, just the HyperX red switches. And I like them a lot. I need less pressure to hit the keys which led to me being able to type faster and use less effort overall to hit a key. So the reds grown on me. Do I like them better than blues? No. I would say they are about the same for me as far what I like better. They both serve different purposes and have pros and cons. Everything is a compromise, even on keyboard switches lol
This is why I want hyperx to make hotswappable boards. So when comparing switches, you don’t have to get two different keyboards
and we could mod the board ourselves, be able to access the switches more easily so we can lube them and the stabs n stuff
@@hexa3171 yea
I just went through the tedious process of desoldering all of my AOC with aquas and lubed them... they are AMAZING! A total PITA especially since you have to desolder LEDs as well, but totally worth it imo.
Thank you so much for this video It really helped me to make a decision and I'm going to get the aquas
Glad I could help
Thank you very much seriously, I needed to know which switch to choose ❤️
You’re welcome 😊
@@SwitchandClickOfficial origins or alloy fps pro please answer
@@dzevoo9704 I would go for Origins because it has RGB (fps pro has only red lighting), it has usb-c detachable cable (fps pro has micro usb) and Origins has HyperX switches rated at 80 million clicks ( fps pro has cherry mx rated at 50 million clicks). That would be the main differences between two keyboards.
Thank you so much this was very helpful ❤️
Thank you switch and Click. This video comparison of hyperx switch. I have nothing to say but it was very details
Came for the switch reco, stayed for the pour over coffee satisfaction. Great content, thanks!
Wow, the amount of interaction with your viewers beckons a sub 😮. Your videos have been very helpful in choosing my very first mechanical keyboard!
Glad to hear it!
A day too late :P Was deciding between aquas and reds. Saw both of your reviews telling they were similar to cherry browns and reds. Initially I thought I'd like the tactile switches for typing, and would prefer aquas over reds. But the hyperx boards weren't available for testing and had to test on cherry's. I absolutely disliked the bump on cherry browns and trying it for a minute or so made my fingers feel tired. I tried reds and the smoothness/ linear feeling was so much better. At last I picked up the alloy origins core with red switches yesterday and have been loving it. Great keyboard so far. Yes typing mistakes are present but hopefully that makes me a more accurate typer overtime. First mechanical keyboard and first tkl board and going back to my membrane makes me feel how did I ever type on that. XD Thanks for your reviews. Really made me decide and realise to test is important before picking one up.
and i ordered red switches coz aqua weren't in stock😂
I also got the red switches. I find that i make a lot to typos :( I need to use backspace often
Is too easy to make mistakes when writing in the HyperX switches?
@@jellyuser u would make more mistakes when using red switches as they are linear. But im not into typing that much, just need those soft keys for fps games. Get aqua if u want to type perfectly
Sound test 7:25; 7:32 - red switch 7:40; 7:48 - aqua switch
Great video, very very helpful, thank you
I was searching for a video that explain well this difference and i never found it, hopefuly youtube recommend this video to me. Thanks for the video, it was very useful to take a final decision
Glad you enjoyed it!
When you were making the coffee I though I clicked onto a different video.
Your video has been very helpful and helped me in making a decision if I should go with Reds or Aquas. Been typing on membrane all my life and taking the leap towards mechanical. Thank you :)
What did you decide on?
@@chrish40443 ended up buying Ducky One 2 RGB Pudding Edition with Cheery Brown switches
@@123cez123 that's awesome, thanks for the reply. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts when you try it out - I'm in a similar situation coming from membrane and am considering a Ducky but there are so many options.
@@chrish40443 My final list was Ducky (wanted Shine but far too expensive to justify hence settled with One 2), Leopold (shame not backlit), Durgod (hard to find for UK the model I wanted), Keychron (mainly wanted C2 but out of stock everywhere) and HyperX Alloy Origins (wanted the Aqua caps however annoying metal ping and same price as Ducky). I have a Corsair K30 from 2016 atm and can't wait to receive my Ducky. Will let you know once I get it.
@@chrish40443 I've received my keyboard yesterday and all I can say is that I wish I've bought one years ago. The Cherry Brown switches are a good option if you're coming from membrane, at least for me it works perfectly. I love the keyboard and can definitely recommend it. Typing and gaming are a dream on this. Can't go wrong. Also had my sights on Keychron C2 which was out of stock initially but now they have in stock. Good alternative if you're looking for a a different mechanical board, also Switch and Click has a new review on it. Check it out.
Great video! I just subbed and bought the HX Reds.
I am no keyboard connoisseur, but I love my HyperX Alloy Core keyboard with Aqua switches. Build quality is great, switches feel like Red switches with a much lower price tag (atleast in my country). Love the sound it makes and feels great to type on. Only downside is the software.
Thank you so much for the video I loved it! Very very informative. Great work!
You are so welcome!
I have the aqua's and I love it. Typing and gaming feel amazing! Best keyboard I've had.
In-depth and useful, cheers!
Thanks!
Thank you!! amazing video
Great video. Do you think you might be able to do a comparison video on black switches that are out there? I just ordered my first mechanical keyboard with Gateron black switches and was wondering how they compare to the Kailh box black and all the other ones. Thanks....⌨️
To me the aquas with the caps on sound really taccy and plasticy, cheap even. I've tried the alloy origin keys at a shop and they feel pretty good so I guess they're the same as the core, so when I decide to upgrade imma go red cos they do still have a little bit of push back or click yet still being smooth and that's what I want I think, I'm not sure I literally got a pc 20 days ago and it came with a membrane keyboard
Great video, you should try a new method of switch lubrication that doesn’t require desoldering I made up. Instead to spraying with super lube I hold down the stem and use a tiny paint brush to coat the inner walls in krytox 205g0 I think it would make a cool video maybe.
Switch and Click np lol I’m making a video ab me doing it to my apex pro soon
I have this keyboard with the red switches, for coding, I don’t play any games. I was coming from over a decade using Apple magic keyboards so there was a lot of getting used to. (I also have a kenesis advantage 2 with brown switches that was gifted to me). I initially bought the dragon k552 with blue switches... I returned it after one day cause it was just too damn loud and annoying. The red switches in the core feel perfect to me. I tend not to bottom out much on them as just a slight tap of the key is enough to engage the switch. This thing feels like butter to me. Easily the best $80 I’ve spent in years. Would highly recommend this keyboard to anyone. I love it much more than my kenesis board, which had WAY too big of a learning curve (breaking 2 decades of muscle memory) Now if only openRGB would add support for the core so I can change my RGB lights in arch Linux...

I think I'll go for the red switch. Thank you 👍
thank you for this :)
HyperX Aqua are my favorite switches. I wanted something tactile but browns just always felt weird to me. Aquas just feel “right” to me
Thank you so much! I think I am going to get the Aquas :)
Have fun!

Glad to hear it!
I like this new format is calming
this video is so well structured!!! it gives me so many good answers! i am personnaly looking for a keyboard and was doing some research, i think the HyperX Red is the one for me !!
Thanks so much!
For those who want these Switches but want a more Premium touch, Varmilo has these Switches as an option for their Pro Customization Option. I believe Ducky had a Collab board with HyperX that also had the HyperX Reds but that seems to be out of stock till further notice :[ Back on Tangent though, Ive been really digging these bigger Peripheral Companies experimentation with different switches. Yeah I know most of these are just Rebrands and Renames of already existing switch designs but its still something else besides Cherry, and more competition is good for everyone in the long run.
Yeah I totally agree everything can't be cherry
I was a sole Red/Linear user, but I wanted the keyboard asap without waiting and my Best Buy only had the Aquas, and honestly, I’m in love. I love the bump, I tried going back to my linear just to try it, and it feels so empty!!! The bump actually helps me press the key even quicker because it bumps right down and right back up. I love the Aquas! I feel like they’re even “faster” to press than linears. Aside from switches. The board/case itself is literally so smooth, quality and just looks and feels amazing, not to mention the sound of the switch echoing off the metal is so much nicer and deeper than plastic.
I have Corsair K70 old model on cherry-mx red switches with only red lights. Few days ago I built a new computer for my friend and we went for HyperX Alloy Origins Red and I was stunned with its beauty and build quality. Software seemed also great & I also loved sound of HyperX red more than my cherry-mx red switches. I fell in love with that keyboard and planning to upgrade my keyboard and get that HyperX Red. The only downside is that it doesn't have as comfortable extra media and volume buttons as my Corsair K70, but I'm willing to sacrifice it for the love of HyperX, lol.
Hey, should I get that hyperx red? I got a discount on my country
@@DIPLAYER1866 I had to test it only once for that day when I built system for my friend and like I said I fell in love with that keyboard. It seemed amazing. I ordered myself from Amazon too, but it's still not shipped yet. Can't wait when it arrives.

Thanks for the clear explanation, It helped a lot to understand how it all works.
Very nice and helpful.Thank you so much.I buy red switchs and i love it.
Just got my 60% hyper X alloy origin keyboard and I love it
I'm thinking of buying Origins core keyboard with aqua switches after this video and I will replace stock keycaps with HyperX pudding keycaps :)
Very cool video thanks!
I already tried 2 of these with aqua switches, but after a few days some keys on both keyboards started to make this annoaying springy "ting" sound on release (the sound goes mostly away when I dont use the keyboards feet and leave it flat - but I dont prefer that). Maybe I am too sensitive, but it is very disturbing, when I can hear it typing in silence. It just feels... cheap and undercuts the experience of premium keyboard Ive spent some money on. Is there an alternative keyboard / switch you would recomment using, which doesnt have this problem, but otherwise feels the same? Or is the same with all tactile switches? Other than that I absolutely love the feel of aqua switches. I was thinking about trying MX browns or maybe some other brand, but I am fresh to mechanical keyboards so it feels kinda overwhelming. I also dont want to tinker with the keyboard (lube it etc..). Thank you! :)
epic vid thanks 2much! i have a doubt about the aqua switches or im a bit stupid XD the bump moment of aqua`s doesnt registers the key ? i think i heared in the video but i need to question to make the correct decision :D
Hey im building my first mech keyboard. I really Like the sounds of the chocc sounding ones and i was wandering if you have a suggestion for what i should use. Im using the gk64XS base if that makes a difference
Good luck! I hope this keyboard is gonna be good :)

I originally bought the tenkeyless in Aqua and while it was ok for gaming but not very good.I returned it and bought the red switch linear and it’s sooooo much better.if you are a gamer definitely go for linear
3:55 bruh very good try. You got me right there
Hi, i know i'm a bit late. I visited your channel and now end up buying an aqua board. However, I notice that since the switch had northfacing led, will it interference with cherry profile keycaps like gmk or domikey, etc. Thank you, subbed !
Daymn 10k already gratz... So many keyboards u have but dont know what is your main keyboard
this helps so much even in 2021
i wanted to get aqua switches as i will need it for gaming as well as typing but sadly they are not in stock so i had to order red switches
Are the aqua switches good for both gaming and gaming or are they only good for other things because I need them for gaming principally and typing (not productivity just typing in general) which one do you think is the best switch. I saw a comment of a guy coming from laptop keyboard asking whats the most similar, I come from laptop too but I need it for gaming. Thanks anyway

Maybe out of topic - was just wondering if your top 5 choices of linear switches have changed? Where would you put NK creams in the rankings?
Bro thank you so much
You're welcome
Planning to buy this keyboard tomorrow since my current one is broken. I'm gaming a lot when I can, but also a lot of the time I have to work over 70% of my time on projects which involve quite a bit of typing. Been using Razer Blackwidow with tacticle switches in the past and now Logitech G413 Romer G which is also a tactile switch if I'm not wrong, but you said the HyperX ones are feeling heavier. Should I go for Aqua or Red switches?
Kamal A I am deciding between Logitech G513 GX brown and the HyperX Alloy Origins Aqua. This will be my first mechanical keyboard. Logitech is $10 more which is insignificant. I'll be doing gaming/typing 50/50. Is Logitech louder or smoother than HyperX? Built quality seems similar on specs.
I absolutely love the sound of HyperX Key strokes. Best keyboards ever!

Too loud and clicky
@@SwitchandClickOfficial i know but i like that type of switchs, anyways i am so close to buy this keyboard with aqua switch because it s not expansive keyboard and i like it at all, and the switch is not that loud but the type of switch is that one whic i like so...

But this christmas im switching it out to a razer blackwidow tkl i recomend the keyboard but personally i like the razer switches sound more. As she is saying in the video its harder to type on the reds, i compleatly agree i always type something wrong when im typing wit this
I'm thinking about getting the aqua switch, but my concern is that they'll feel too similar to membrane, which I don't want. I have never tried mx browns or aquas before so I'm wondering, do they feel similar to membrane at all?
Vastly different IMO

Hi great review! Just wondering when you say here 4:28 in regards to both linear and tactile: you say if both switches have the same spring weight for example, linear switches would still be heavier due to Hooke's law? So if you bottom out a lot it would be better to get a lighter linear switch?
Which ones are quieter. I don’t have the best hearing so it is difficult for me to tell
I won't be able to pick one if there are new switches coming out every day 🙃
Amazing video
Im late to the party, but damn... That was a good video. You helped me pick the red ones. Thank you.
I sadly just returned a Razer Huntsman 60% mini (Red Linear Optical) due to the keyboard being faulty (and alot of people online confirming they also having exact same problems as me). Honestly, for the few days the device was working, i LOVED the feel of the keys for gaming. Would you have a recommended model that i should look at getting? I'd like to stick to a 60% keyboard, with linear optical switches. Many thanks!
I’d recommend a gk61 with optical yellows
basically: linears are for bottom outers and tactile can let you avoid that
I really like the look and price of this keyboard, but I am looking for an as silent as possible keyboard that can use rbg without software, do you recommend any of these two or do you have a better recommendation? ^^ (I am completely new to this and I won't be using the keyboard for gaming)
These are not the most silent.
