  • Joel somehow brings out deep feelings in the middle of absurdity. They hit you because you aren’t expecting them. I’ve experienced this with other artists, but Joel is the only one that seems to successfully draw out the emotion without throttling down the absurdity at some point. There might be a metaphor for life in that 😊❤

  • This evokes the same energy that old songs from the past meant to be performed in-front of friends and family. A lot of songs that were self referential to the fact that they are songs. Plus references to the pop culture at the time which was mostly religious in nature.
