This hits harder after seeing the Super Mario Movie. During the Kong Arena scene, we can clearly see Kranky Kong, Dixie Kong, Diddy Kong, and even Chunky Kong, but Lanky is nowhere to be seen.

i met lanky in a pub he told me that he had a falling out with the dk crew mainly with donkey kong and he fell into depression and addiction to alcohol thankfully he got clean and only briefly was able to reconcile with the dk crew for Barrel Blast but it all went to shit again behind the scenes and ended up in a full fist fight with donkey kong and he left again this time for good and he told me he was offered a cameo in the new mario movie by dks manager and he just said no way get fucked fuck off its sad what happend to him he is great guy.

There’s so many layers to this entire thing. For one, they didn’t tell Lanky what the lyrics were and likely intentionally since they knew he’d dislike them if he did, and wouldn’t have acted silly for the video like they needed. Two, the way he immediately starts talking about Donkey sounds good at first, but really listen to it. It’s clear he gets bossed around and belittled by DK all the time. “Whips the team into shape” and “Nothing without him” are key points to that. For three, Donkey might even be physically abusing poor lanky, considering the way he said “That’s for sure” after hearing about the coconut gun like he’d been shot by it before and knows how much it hurts. Hell, he even hesitated to call about how mean spirited the song was. Probably because he knew he’d be reprimanded for standing up for himself!
Lanky is just smart enough to know that if you shoot someone, it's gonna work. "That's how guns work".

I actually think that he was just complementing how good donkey Kong was at shooting, and how talented a fighter he was. After getting upset with the way that they treated him, he then reveals that D.K is a blow hard who really is nothing special, when you get right down to it. Anyone can just use a gun and hurt someone with it.

It's just part of the way he talks. He leans into it a little more in the skits he makes, but he actually has a lot of those slightly awkward ways of talking normally. I'm pretty sure it's because he always pauses for a moment to think over what he's trying to say for the purposes of avoiding foot in mouth syndrome.
The part that breaks my heart is when Lanky doubles down on his optimism and says,"Maybe it'll come back around," and then plays the video again.

Based on the fact that Lanky only appeared in two more games, years apart, I choose to believe that he was able to forgive the DK Crew, but mostly went his own way afterwards.

This video is a perfect example of dramatic irony. We, as the audience, all know what to expect, but we watch the character move forward ignorant. The tragedy is enhanced by our knowledge of its inevitability. They could show this video in literature classes.
