Joe Frazier vs Muhammad Ali
-
Joe Frazier defends the heavyweight championship of the world against Muhammad Ali. The fight was called 'The Fight of the Century' and lived up to the hype. The first of a great trilogy and the beginning of one of the most memorable rivalries in the sport.
-
Their records at the time (W-L-D):
Muhammad Ali: 31-0
Joe Frazier: 26-0
What a great fight. Frazier was a machine. He earned all the praise ever awarded to him on that night. The world has lost a magnificent warrior.
I watched it on closed circuit TV at the old Savoy theater on Washington Street in Boston with my dad. The place was packed and going insane!
Thank you very much for having posting that match ! First time of my life I could watch it enterely !
I was in grade 8 when this fight took place. A mate and I wagged school to watch this classic battle and, although I have watched it many times since, the amount of punishment given and taken by both men never ceases to amaze me. Make no mistake, this battle took a heavy toll on them both. It was indeed the Fight of the Century (as it was promoted). RIP Joe Frazier, fight fans all over the world owe you CHAMP.
damn ur old
Just check out these two reminders of what it was like: 1) Cassius had to defend his "Heavyweight" title more than two times. 2) Whatever Cassius did, Joe Frazier had done much and much better.
@Tresix I agree, a fight doesn't get any better by being more brutal. I enjoy watching this one much more!
he got his clocked cleaned in this one
Joe's finest hour. Rest in Peace champ.
I remember having to go to bed before the fight at age 12 but listened to the whole thing hiding under my covers on a transistor radio with those little one ear Earphones! Next morning at.breakfast Dad looked at me and said great last round wasn’t it son😂🤨. Never could fool him❤️🙏🏽. Miss you Dad❤️
I understand now why this fight is the most Epic Ever!
One of the greatest champions in the world has gone... R.I.P.
These two were warriors...ruthless competitors who loved the thrill of combat... R.I.P. Joe.... These guys will meet and fight again in heaven
RIP Smokin Joe! Thank you for this unforgettable fight.
This was indeed the fight of the century.R.I.P.JOE FRAZIER.
May God comfort his family and friends. Lord, thank you for Joe Frazier's life and his gift to all of us. Let him find comfort and rest in your presence. Amen.
Joe Frazier è stato un grande campione .
Love that Left Hook.
How true! These Cassius lovers make me sick.
Oh well get over it pal Ali is the greatest
@primeboxers het man great job getting this vid up,its ine of my favorite fights of all time, but just wondering why does it say in the description in the records section "ernie terrel 26-0" its smoking joe!
Im 18 and the only fight ive ever watched was Hatton v Mayweather so this doesn't mean as much coming from me but the best fight i've ever seen! I wish heavyweight boxing was like the old days. I've heard about all these great boxers and only now am I getting to see them.
The famed round known as the "terrible eleventh" is worth the price of admission to this one. That and round 9, Ali's best. Great fight with two great champions.
Love you Joe. Rest in Peace.
So so good
RIP !!
@YourMumsADouchebag that's correct in the 10 point system in the 10 point MUST system however, an even round would be 10-10, because somebody MUST get 10 points, unless there is a point deduction. In this system, some judges doesn't take away more points for knockdowns after 7 tough, so after 3 or more knockdowns some still score it 10-7..... those judges are very rare tough.... the 10 point must system is the most widely used today
Angelo Balzano
I'm a big-time ali and fraizer fan, though I learn more toward ali. This is the first time I've watched this fight in it's entirety because I'm a big ali fan and don't like seeing him lose so I always took everybody's word that he did. Well, after watching and scoring it myself I had ali ahead by one even after giving fraizer a 10-7 15th round.
@KIWIAZALWAYS because I copied the description from that video and changed the info. except for that name of course, thanks for letting me know ;D
i'm tired just watching this :D
RIP Smokin Joe That left hook of his was the stuff of legend.
a true warrior.
What's the title of this video again? who's Joe Frazier fighting?
Frazier has been planting those body blows the whole fight, and here is where you really see what the results of his efforts sprout up.
I watch this fight like once a year. Frazier is flat out scary. His power obviously, but then his chin, speed, conditioning, and overly agressive fighting style make for quite the terrifying matchup. Ali had no answer for him in this fight. I do credit him for not dying from the knockout however.
grande joe frazier top ten entre los dioses del box Q.E.P.D.
9:30 is the punch that put Ali down. Thanks Smokin' Joe. R.I.P.
Hey man thanks for uploading this great fight, and in such good quality as well!. It is clear to every objective unbiased viewer that Frazier won this fight, the only people that say he lost are Ali worshippers and nuthuggers. And personally I think this was the best fight.
just like watchin Rocky,Obviously where stallone got his inspiration.an amazing fight between two greats from a golden age.RIP smokin Joe.
ALI=Heart How he was not KO`d I can not explain.
Just Watching in 2011, It looked like Ali scored with more punches throughout the fight but Frazier scored the biggest shots in the fight. I was always an Ali fan, but Frazier truly took this one. Ali didn't stagger Frazier or knock him down.
The one I truly respect is Joe Frasier.
WHEN JOE SEEMED TO BE HURT HE WOULD ALSO HOLD TO SAY ILL LET YOU GO THIS TIME BE GOOD AND HE EVEN TOLD LISTON THAT HE WAS HIS DAD
March 12, 1971.
I have watched this fight many times and still Joe’s clobbering of Ali astounds me.Left Hooks to the jaw, some rights too, severe hits to the body... what a battering!
@lumumbaaddi2490 it a point system, frazier would have won even bigger. you only get one point more than the opponent when you win a round unless you knock him down or hurt him badly, frazier would therefore score more points as he gets and extra poin in 15 and maybe in 11 aswell.
The Legends never die, JOE “ smokin’ “ FRAZIER forever. I love you. Riposa in Pace ***Le Leggende non muoiono mai, JOE “ smokin’ “ FRAZIER per sempre. Ti voglio bene. Riposa in Pace *** Las Leyendas no mueren nunca, JOE smokin"' FRAZIER para siempre. Te quiero. Riposa in Pace *** Les Légendes ne meurent jamais, JOE smokin"' FRAZIER pour toujours. Je T’aime. Riposa in Pace
Joe Frazier is tha little engine that could!!
That left hook is so fucking devastating! R.I.P Smokin', Definitely will be missed.
R.I.P. JOE
@YourMumsADouchebag then this is different. back in the day they used to score on a round by round basis.
R.I.P Mister joe!
down goes frazier rip man live good ull prbaly see mohamed soon shaking with u.
11-4 rounds for fraizer? That last judge is crazy!!!
both great fighters you dont get heavyweights like these anymore :(
'All I know is, that was one WICKED punch there folks! Did I mention that was a WICKED left hook to the body?'
@JxNeeley Ali had 2 fights before the Fight with Frazier and he was 29 years old that's well within a fighters prime especially for someone as talented as Ali
Didn't remember that Ali was so strong in the rounds 12 - 14.
A great one is gone...R.I.P. Joe
@frank47hammer One cannot stage a better left hook, it was perfect! And the most amazing thing about it was that Ali actually got up to finish. I think this was their best fight, the third was of course more brutal, but brutal doesn't allways mean better.
ДО КОНЦА СМОТРЕЛ? В КОНЦЕ СКАЗАНО И НАПИСАНО КТО ВИНЕР!
R.I.P .. ur the best boxer in the world for me
@primeboxers right after Ali was announced as the champion he collapsed on the mat. It was all for the better, Frazier was asked would he go out for the 15th if he knew it might kill him, and he said yes. A true professional like that needs to be protected from himself. Eddie Futch did the right thing.
@kerkoky no extra points for knock downs in this fight, it was to be scored on a roundsbasis. a knockdown simply makes it close to impossible for the other guy to win that round so it's 9-6 however, I disagree; A: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 13, 14 F: 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15 IMHO: 8-7 Frazier
I love the tactic Joe was using against Ali by bein aggressive from Start to Finish. If you saw the fight Ali most of the time was in defensive mode...Most opposing fighters would get tired of Ali's method and would try to take a shot at him openly at some point and thats when Ali took advantage. But in this fight Joe was patient and aggressive and Ali had to change his tactic. So, in the latter parts v saw Ali also bein aggressive but Frazier jus beat him to da punch. Hat off to JOE! R.I.P.
great left, R.I.P. Mr. Joe
It very much depends on how you score. Punch stats should not decide who wins a fight and who doesn't. Frazier was the clear aggressor during this fight. Landed more power shots, knocked Ali down twice, didn't clinch all the time and generally just got better as the fight went on. Ali won the first 4-5 rounds, no doubt.
muhammad ali was the most compassionate fighter to ever box next to sugar ray
@crazyben108 lol, thanks for ruining the ending.
Joe hit Ali with serious body punches in The 13th round. Those must have hurt. In the 15th, I think Ali was unconscious when he hit the canvas and woke up in a daze when he hit the canvas hard.
Rest in peace Joe
I have it 8-6-1 Frazier, to me he controlled the fight throughout, landed more effective shots (he staggered Ali 3-4 times in the fight), and made Ali miss around half of his punches. I also have to say that Ali did alot of holding, and did most of the cliching. He had his moments in the early rounds, and in round 14, but it wasn't enough to win.
2 great fighters no doubt. but in my opinion joe frazier. ali in this fight nexer really squared his feet up with frazier, he knew if he did he would get hurt, another great thing about frazier is HE WOULD ALWAYS KEEP COMING. it means alot when you try to hit a guy with everything you got, and all they do is keep pouring in. FRAZIER HANDS DOWN 2 GREAT BOXERS.
@carlitoboxing7 True, he got up from a devestating punch.
@BumbleBrook most memorable left hook in history!
Frazier dominated this fight!.. Too right!
The ring rust thing is overstated. Ali beat Quarry and Bonavena to get tuned up for Frazier. Both tough top contenders.Ali was a sucker for a hook. If the saved by the bell rule was not in effect Cooper would have a KO win against Ali.
His chin is sick. Either that or his will is just unreal.
RIP Joe Frazier...he passed away earlier tonight.
Pretty convincing win for Frazier....
Uv got to see Round 8 .. so funny!!!
Frazier was definitely the winner of the fight, but the judge that scored it 11-4 was watching something else. Referee Mercante had it about right, 8-6-1. I watched this fight live when it happened and I believed then, as I do now, that what cost Ali this fight was that he simply gave away too many rounds to Joe by laying on the ropes and letting Joe pound away. I also believe that had Ali not been banned from boxing for 3 1/2 years, Joe would NEVER have beaten him.
It's too bad that Frazier didn't emphasize on his jab more than he did. He had a good one. Opponents rarely saw it coming, I guess they worried too much about that left hook.
I had it even after 12 was a close fight. Frazier earned it Ali went around for a while trying to convince people he was robbed. I was at this fight rooting for Smokin' Joe. The only black mark on his career is Big george had his number. He was one badass fighter.
Okay, a lot of you people need to get your facts straight. Ali never went to prison. He was stripped of his title and banned from fighting yes, but he was never imprisoned.
Frazier hit Ali with some wicked body punches.
Me too. It was not just about Cassius Clay. It was also about Joe Frasier, who Cassius demeaned to the worst degree .I can't blame Joe Frasier for beating the hell out of him. Joe won this fight on all the cards.
You mean Muhammad Ali?
@dennbb plus ali had more fights in the recent months than frazier did leading up to this.
personally i would score that fight 8-6-1 Frazier. It was close, but frazier was aggressive and hit with some big punches.
just how many hooks did Ali take in this fight dang
Angelo Balzano
No, I am not changing the topic. The topic is what was this guy's real name and real accomplishments, And it was Cassius.
rip joe
rest in peace smokin joe
This was great boxing. Not like the rubbish you see in these unfortunate days.
@tylersfs OPEN your eyes, Joe won 4 out of the last 5 rounds, Ali was very lucky to escape the 11th, he was hurt , knees buckled, but Joe was too cautious, Joe was the best of the small heavyweights, no doubt about it, with partial blindness in one eye too.
Elvis was in the audience
@crazyben108 This was 4 year after ali's prime and with a 3 and a half year lay off lol. Joe was prepared to die in the ring that night, he took a tremendous amount of punishment to come through with the win. He layed up in the hospital for a month under intensive care. Nobody was beating joe that night, his heart wouldn't let him be beaten. Ali didn't even fight like Ali in this fight, he was flat footed throughout the entire bout instead of up on his toes and dancing.
R.I.P Joe frazier,what a fighter..this was real boxing.Q.D.E.P Joe frazier,Que boxeador 15 rounds y todavia tirando golpes de poder.
9:32 Ali knows this is not going his way. There's no doubt the 15th round decided this fight. Up until then it could've gone both ways but Ali simply couldn't stop the left hook and he paid for it.
I actually had it 145 | 144 to Ali. I can understand the champ getting the nod though, I had 5 rounds even.
