    • I went to high school with him in Appleton Wisconsin “Appleton East High School”. 1974. At that time he was known as Bill Dafoe, last name pronounced as in the the 1975 video. His father was a doctor.

  • My aunt lived in Appleton, Wisconsin, where Willem Dafoe and his family is from. She always pronounced his last name Day-Foe (she called him "Billy Day-Foe"), which suggests to me that was the way his family usually pronounced their name. Unlike most stars, who change their entire name before becoming famous, I think Willem Dafoe just slightly changed how he pronounced it.
