2022 Lexus LX600 vs 2003 Lexus LX470 // Baller Meets Beater

2022 ж. 29 Нау.
2 045 462 Рет қаралды

The 2022 Lexus LX 600 ($153,475 CAD as specced, ~$127,845 USD as specced) is up against its grandfather platform, the 2003 Lexus LX 470 ($17,500 CAD, ~$14,028 USD converted). With two full generations separating these luxury offroaders, will the value of the LX 470 be able to overshine the fresh tech and opulence of the new LX 600? The older model does have a trusty V8 2UZ-FE engine to rely on, but the new twin-turbo V6 is no slouch either with 409 horsepower. Thomas and James sort out which of these two Lexus’s they would take home. We hope you enjoy the episode! SUBSCRIBE!

  • I bought my LX470 in 2019 for $8000CAD, it had 317k on it, it's now at 375k. I've taken it on adventures in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. It's never broken down or let me down. I even towed a 20 foot trailer with a sports car on it from Denver to Calgary. Best vehicle I've ever owned. And camping out of it is amazing. The drop down tailgate just makes life so much better. Before this I had a brand new Range Rover and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have done everything my 20 year old LX.

  • The Active Height Control suspension used in the 100-series, 200-series and the new 300-series is hydraulic (pneumatic). It's not air suspension like on a Range Rover. The adjustable hydraulic suspension is a lot more reliable than an air suspension. Some people choose to remove it because it gets in the way if you want to lift the car and put bigger tires on.

No poshy Toyota with an overcomplicated V8 and 2 tons of useless steel to move around will ever be a truly reliable off roader. None of them are used in the actual work environments, and when they are, they barely last. They're big, expensive and inefficient. Im quite impressed how much you yanks have fallen for toyota's marketing. Them and their japanese rivals have a lot of cars better than the LC. The LC is just another road SUV with some 4x4 capabilities. Any 4 pot diesel in Europe with a bit of maintenance can get to those 500k miles and more... Road miles are nothing for modern cars.

Ironman bumper and 12k winch. etc. I bought it for 13,500 USD, total with upgrades im in it for about 19K. Doug Thorley headers, Maganaflow exhaust, DBA rotors and pads, new coils, plugs, Apple car play, Pioneer touch screen, etc etc. I love it.

  • I have the honor of owning a Lexus LX470 and I must say, " you should have drove a model with the active suspench. Its freaking AMAZING. The ability to switch from soft to hard in the flick of a real switch. That you can actually feel and switch in an instant. Your 470 goes from rolling Rhino to performance turn hugging cheetah...No joke. This is where I really have to say OEM or JDM is the best. There is no comparison Lexus aka Toyota spent millions of dollars and hired the smartest Japanese employee to design that system. I just don't think any other option comes close. I get it its expensive to replace but it will last another 200k miles. PS also try to keep the JDM wheels if you can. The vehicle was designed and balanced with the wheels it came with.

  • So fun to see another LX470 in Ontario. I appreciated the defense of the 100… I love it equally. I too have large BFG A\T tires (which throw the speed and odometer by 7% btw). And my AHC still works (🤞🏻)! Incidentally, there’s a dash button that manually extends and retracts the antenna to any desired height (for off-road driving). Also, this is spot on…. I throw lots of money to keep this thing in tip-top shape and intend to drive it for 20 more years.

  • Toyota screwed the pooch by selling LX’s against LC’s at commensurate price points. Then they wondered why so few purchased LC’s. If they kept the LC as a more affordable blue collar truck and the LX as the luxo mall crawler, it would have made more sense. 4Runners and Sequoias are nice, but a Land Cruiser they are not.

  • My daily is a rust free 2005 LX470 with 284K on the odo. The only thing that's playing up is the speedo, everything single thing else on it is perfect. In the 70K miles I've owned it I did the timing belt and replaced a bad alternator. That's it (besides consumables). I've taken it legit off roading, camping to the boondocks and everything in between. It's the best vehicles I've ever owned. They really don't make them like that anymore. Oh, and the AHC works like a champ and spoils you. Get on a really bumpy dirt road and click it over to soft, smooth as butter. Need a little lift? Put AHC in High and you have a 2 inch lift. What's not to love?
