Sean McVay continues to change his offensive scheme with the usage of motion, and this year is his magnum opus. In 2017 he began his stint as the Los Angeles Rams head coach with a boom taking the organization to new heights with an innovative scheme, and now he is doing the same, except with a much different approach. The Rams film today looks nothing like the film from back then, so the question is: how is McVay doing it? And how is he using motion? This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay.

    • *This* is why he traded Goff for Stafford. Goff couldn't adjust to what he saw then think on his feet. The Reason he works well in Ben Johnson's offense is Johnson doesn't go "I'll give you options depending on the coverage" he simply tells Goff where to throw in advance. No thinking needed.

Why do you think former offensive assistants to McVay went out when given the opportunity? Because they believe they can do the play calling with a similar playbook and philosophy.

  • On the rams td, it’s more on the box safety than the corner. He is supposed to be outside 2 but inside 1, it’s his responsibility to win inside to bounce the running back out to the corner, not having the corner have to win inside and the safety do nothing. Corners such at tackling but this is more bad run fits. You could say Mcvays use of putting a wide receiver so close to the tackle that it makes the space the safety has to line up in difficult is good scheme, but it’s hard to put that on the corner, he can’t be responsible for the e gap and the edge of the defense that’s impossible. Great vid though

  • I would imagine the Dolphins use motion more than anyone. Obviously it can help a QB read man or zone but also with Miami, I think they like to get Tyreek on the move because it gets him more quickly up to speed when he’s crossing the line of scrimmage. If Tyreek is, say, running half as fast as he can before the corner even has a shot at him then it’s off to the races for Tyreek as I think he hits mid-20s at least on his top end. Kind of like a short Usain Bolt.

    • @@AreYouFNQRAZIIno, it’s more to help with timing. Tua gets rid of the ball fast and this helps even more. Makes reads easier as well. Also, this fast motion helps because the defence cannot get into checks as easily. When motion occurs n a guy “sets” the D can still check and get set themselves. With the fast motion to the snap this makes it much much harder to do. Yes, it help with guys not getting jammed at LOS but, that’s not why they do it. AND it also helps with getting the matchups you want.
