The 2020 Lexus GS-F isn't great -- but it could be, if you buy it in a few years. Today I'm reviewing the GS-F, and I'm going to show you why it's not so great, and why you'll want to wait to buy one. I'm also showing you all the quirks and features of the GS-F, and I'm going to drive the GS-F to show you what the Lexus GS-F is like on the road.

Saab95Performance Why do I get the feeling you are excited you get to break the news to this person ?
GORDO EINSTEIN Chris Harris and Jeremy clarkson likes it...so should we listen to a youtuber who buys used Mercedes wagon and 90s Land Rover or the pros?

@@apt62 I mean listen to whoever you want, but Doug laid out some pretty objective numbers and what he is saying in this video makes a lot of sense. So what if Clarkson likes the car, does that mean it's worth it for 90k? You do you bro.
@@johanneswielenga6902 No one buys it new for 90k and Doug is being deceptive by stating that in the video. People receive huge manufacturer rebates and dealership discounts and end up buying it for 75k, not bad for such a reliable car.

He said that in regards to the high pricing of a car. We get cars wit better acceleration at this price.
It's weak compared to E63 and M5
Tesla is better for the price

@@dannyhernandez2728 Teslas are trash tho. Built like a 86 Yugo.
As a M5 and C63 owner, all the things Doug mentioned that makes the German cars technologically superior to the GS-F are the exact features that ironically makes them unreliable. Lexus may be very late to the technology party, but I'm certain that Lexus owners don't suffer from anxiety of being stranded on the side of the road due to unreliable tech as some of us BMW and Mercedes owners do ;)
The people that buy Lexus cars are well aware that German luxury cars are better than Japanese cars…..when everything is functioning in the German car as it should…..and that’s why they buy a Lexus 😂
100%
@@Matys1975 exactly my point. Lexus is a very good company besides reliability but it’s behind the Germans. But I wouldn’t give up my reliability for those german features that I lose thank u very much. I abuse the hell out of my Lexus sometimes 4500- redlining it for 10 mins straight on back roads many times
people dont understand that german cars are only "unreliable" because they take that risk to add all the newest tech. but real enthusiasts know they make bullet proof motors.

Just how cool is an AMG or M5 when it’s mechanically totaled after 100k miles while the GS-F is just getting broken in?
Heard. No. Fuking. Lies.
Right lol
If you had the money to buy an AMg or an M5 then you wouldn't have to worry about fixing it. Have you ever seen anyone cry in an M5?
Nguyen Luan are you being sarcastic? E60 and F10 M5 came from the factory with defaults. Lotta folks crying in a M5
It aint Ralph tho. Like I said I'm not saying the M5 is better than lexus gs F in term of relibility. Just saying if I'm going to put my money on a luxury performance car, I'm going for german no matter what. I'm not like those people who have $30K and spend $30K on a car. If I want to buy a $50K car then I should have at least $150K in my bank. Most people who buy high end cars have no money for repair hence the reason why they keep crying.
I'm taking this over an amg or m car every time cause it's got rwd, 0 turbo lag, and japanese reliability. 460hp is more than enough
Yup
it also looks way better than a Benz imo

I've been an AMG enthusiast all my life but this right here has stolen my love for them. Those HP wars are pointless what can you do with 600hp other than get your license taken away honestly? With this even if I get gapped I'll still have more fun while at it
I'm with y'all on this. I'm a repeat AMG owner and still own and love them. But what people don't understand is Lexus is offering people the last of a dying breed-oldworld-no bullshëēt driving experience in style and luxury. So??? Every one that buys this cars, use IT knowing that. For A luxury car, reliability is meaningless.
mauricio Rivero Stumpf I strongly disagree with your statement about reliability being meaningless in a luxury car. If I’m paying $90,000 for a luxury car I expect it to be reliable and not some pretty machine that’s gonna break at 50,000 miles. Also if reliability was so meaningless in luxury cars then why is Lexus doing so well in the luxury car market?!!!!!??? Obviously some people care about reliability in their luxury cars.
People who buy luxury cars new usually only want it for less than 5 years. Long term reliability isn't a concern for them.
Oscar it doesn’t matter if the owner is going to keep the car for a week or for 17 years...... the cars should still be reliable.
@@oscar3444 well for somebody who works hard for their money and is buying a luxury car to keep for a long time, they will definitely care lol. That's only the billionaires who don't care about reliability, plus they will rather buy a rolls royce or a sport car than a Toyota

"Don't buy it, you know, unless you wanna keep it or use it frequently!" How many competitors do you see rolling around with 200-400k on the odometer while still looking mint inside and out? (before 2000s) TBF, I do agree that it is better value to buy it used, but that applies most cars. The difference is that this is among a small select group of modern cars that you can buy, frequently use, and keep for you the rest of your life with minimal maintenance expenses.

"not all that high performance" 477 HP from a high revving 5.0L V8 with no forced induction... I would also argue that the GS-F is not actually competing with the M5/E63s, but rather the M-performance and 43-line variants of those platforms. Lexus never developed a turbocharged V8 engine for any of their cars, and they don't seem interested in getting into that market because of cost and lack of clout.

Ah shit! Here we go again.
I’m really sad about the GS being cancelled. It’s a really underrated platform. It handles way better than it has any right to. I think if 60% of people who bought loaded out ES’s just test drove the GS, they’d have spent the same money on a GS because it’s just better to drive
yeah my uncle has a 2018 GS350 F Sport and its good
I'm in the market and really sad that GS has no replacement, ES is an FWD and the NA V6 is all great and reliable but it lacks all the solid built in Japan like GS and the NA V8 with real massive Metal Intake Manifold, Metal Valve Cover, RWD platform advantage, superior handling. I hope I can find a great used GS F. This NA V8 will outlast any junk piece of crap that BMW or German dumpster fire VW pukes on. Shame. Now ES is going to lose NA V6 as well, the last run of NA engines at Lexus are now almost dead. The IS 500 F Sport is no GS F and the Apron issues on IS 500 are annoying plus GS F had Leather Interior with V8 IS 500 has Nuluxe nonsense, very very sad.
Eh, I have a GS f sport (pre facelift) and it handles okay. I think you're overselling it.
you can thank people like dougy over here for that.
Very few care about rear-wheel drive and good driving dynamics. The ES is the better car for those people who’d rather have more legroom and a more comfortable ride.
Jeremy Clarkson on The Grand Tour preferred the Lexus GS-F to the BMW M5. Also, anyone can create a good exhaust note but it’s much more difficult to create an amazing engine sound like this one
Harris also rated the GS higher than the M5.
That’s because both Jeremy and Harris have brains in contrast to this clown here.

As an AMG and Lexus Owner.... If I'm looking to scare my friends on a ride, I choose the AMG. If I'm going on a road trip and don't feel like worrying about being stranded, I DEFINITELY take the Lexus.
I’ve had a 2013 GS 350 since 2013. Through 7 years I’ve put over 100,000 miles on mine. I can tell you one bad flaw in this model is that the servo motor for the air conditioning system has broken down three times in 7 years. I was lucky the first 2 times as my car was under warranty till 2018 and it was fixed for free but in January 2020 it broke for the third time and to replace it with labor cost me $1400 US. It’s a very badly designed motor. It’s hidden behind the dashboard, so the company has to literally take apart the entire car from the inside to fix it. According to the dealership it’s a very common issue in this generation of the GS and ES models. Servo motor basically controls the air of the cabin and when it breaks down by default the vents stay open permanently so basically your car does not cool the interior at all. It’s terrible because I live in Dubai and temperatures reach way over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s the only big issue I faced with my car.
@Frankie Basile the heat has been there for years. I have other vehicles as well and they don't face this problem, I have a Honda accord 2014 with over 130,000 miles on it now and it has never given me a problem like my GS has. I know it sucks but that's the reality, luxury doesn't always mean better quality. In fact in my experience luxury cars actually give you more problems over the years because of complex options in them. If you ever owned a Mercedes-Benz or BMW for 5+years, you will definitely face a few hiccups. Regarding the problem in the GS, its an extremely common issue in this generation because of the materials inside the servo motor are 90 percent plastic, countries like Japan and majority of the states in USA don't have extreme heat conditions like dubai. So a company as big as lexus can't customise internal parts for different countries, that will cost them hundreds of millions for changing just the outer shell of a servo motor in an already established production line plus plastic is obviously much cheaper to work with.
As a Lexus fan I need to admit, that Doug is right. Paying full price on it, well I would think twice. As an used car for half the price and still low mileage? Brilliant deal!

@A real bisexual petrol-head Of course I don't. I like both Mercedes and BMW and people who drive them. I just disagree with Dougs opinion about them sounding better than this lexus. To me they all sound good but the lexuses naturally aspirated sound is more to my liking
A real bisexual petrol-head worst sounding cars on the market. There’s v6 engines that sound better than any of the M cars. And I can’t stand the sound of a v6.
I took this car out for a test drive when it came out and was impressed with it. I came away from the drive thinking that car will reliably handle like that for as long as I own it. The only downside was the price, not the performance. It is a fantastic car.
depends how you look at it, it wouldnt bother me that its slower than the rivals because its not exactly slow is it, lexus build engines to last so they dont over tune them and look how beautifully its built, lexus still build a car that lasts and to me that says more to me than zero to 60 times
GSF exhaust sounds much better than the M5 lol, M5 is so muted from those turbos 😂
It's bigger and 'badder'.

"It is not as good a car as the M5 or AMG, it just lasts longer and is more reliable" Hahahahaha!
Says a lot about not only Doug but also the rest of the customer market, people just don't give a sht about reliabillity and anymore
I rather have a car that's worth less than a amg than spend the money on the amg and have to spend more time on repairs than actual driving, Mercedes and BMW cost a lot to fix up. I'd rather spend time driving the car rather than it having to spend time waiting to have it fixed.
He means performance is weaker than the two competition and all specs. however in the long run (over 60 k mileage) lexus is more reliable ,
@@themack5653 Yup. I got that. They are only faster for about 50k miles. After that they are considerably slower than the Lexus. Mainly because they are sitting on the side of the road or in the shop getting another 4k in repairs. Stay safe out there.
@@jb40now47 Therefore luxury sport sedans are usually leased due to high deprecation value. this makes why reliability is not an issue.
Beautiful car, great job! My only question is, does it handle and accelerate differently when in sport or slalom, in the other modes? Were you just testing it in normal mode? TY

Car is a fossil
@john m That's not true, all cars break down even Toyotas and Lexus. And if you buy one of those in Germany these cars will hold up for 4-5 years without any problems. And let's be honest who wants an outdated car so why should I pick this Lexus japanese outdated scr*p
john m meh, just don’t futz with the ECU for “free” power and you’ll be good
john m Not true at all. You are so incorrect
I mean he doesn't deny it's a good deal for the money used - because it is. You get okay performance, okay tech (has had ACC/parking assist since 2016) and a crappy infotainment that can be retrofitted pretty easily to have Android Auto/Carplay with one of the most bullet proof powertrains available. It just sucks the price of these new are asinine to what it has.
The remote touch is unfathomably fantastic. I will die on this hill. It's clunky at first, of course, but you get used to it fast. Poking your index finger at a screen you aren't holding in your hand isn't easy at all, especially when your focus lies elsewhere. Not to mention that you need to shift in your seat to reach that screen in almost every vehicle. Remote touch is always comfortably in reach.
i believe you because if it wasn't that easy to use I wouldn't see so many Lexus on the road. Car journalists just don't seem to want to give it time and review it properly.
I LOVE the stacked exhaust. One of my favorite details of an F car.
The NA V8 is a great engine, all of the competition has turbos which makes it impossible to compete. GS F Sounds better and will last longer.
I had an ISF before and now a RCF. Transmission is very aggressive in sport+ and very relaxed in regular. Doug wouldn't realize that for having it for 6 hrs or a day. It takes time to learn how this car behaves in different modes. Lexus designed it that way. There are abused ISFs with over 300k miles with no issues. This car will last a million miles without any repairs with proper maintenance and no modification. Just delete the muffler and resonators and it sounds so good. I have people come upto me to say it sounds much better than mustangs and other American NA 5 ltr V8s all the time.
@KB L agreed
Thisss is amazing
Exactly this car has a v8 NA with 477ps How many cara do you know with a NA V8 in the maybe past 10 years? Not manny. I think the gsf is a very good car. It is expensive but you get a good amount of goodies in the base model. In a m5 you dont even get electric seats. Come on man.
Having a less stressed engine will always lead to longevity
Wowwwwwww. I was saving up to buy one of these hopefully by the end of the year and now thanks to dough the price is going to sky rocket
I’m now looking back at this video in December 2022, literally a few days before 2023 and these GS F models are high, like they barely budge their value and most are even higher than their original price. 🤦♂️ should’ve bought these when they came out.

Exactly, and the 90k thing is not true, I went to a couple of dealers and I got basically a brand new one for under 80k. Tell me another car that competes with this that I can get new for that price.
Lexus GSF is a good car but not a great car I have a 2018 GSF and also owned an E92 M3 and E46 M3. The reliability, performance and luxury is unmatched I would take an E63 AMG S over the M5 or GSF but long term GSF will be a collectors car last V8 N/A from Lexus/Toyota brand.

@ 7:05 I don't recall people ever complaining about the look of the stacked exhausts. If anything, the complaint was about the upper ones being fake. They had no actual pipe connection. This, of course, got rectified with the RCF and GSF where all 4 are fully functional.

I feel like you were overly harsh with this review Doug. This car has everything except for a decent touchscreen system. Its good looking, its quick, has an amazing interior and an awesome NA V8 that sounds glorious and most importantly, 10x more reliable than any car being pumped out by the Germans. No doubt getting this car used for 40k USD is a steal.
Which is exactly why he said it was a great used car. But new cars are reliable regardless of the brand, so why would you buy this new when you could get more for the same price?

Always interesting to hear "not enough power" "slow" (4.6 Seconds to 60) when you are not allowed to drive faster than 75 miles :) Writing from Germany.
Well you can accelerate super fast to 75 miles(+ exceed 10 mph) and have short burst runs here and there and there are some places where you can break the rules without risk of consequences.
*I’m American and this was explained to me a while back.* Speed Limits are way lower in the US so way more people are inclined to break them, so the theory is that you get the fastest car you can and let it run!
Vasi Vallis Official Band Channel yes, its slow. everything is relative, you’re thick headed.
He’s talking when compared to the competition. He’s also saying it because performance sedan buyers have great German sedan choices that give you lots more power. Also we have 47,000 miles of interstate Highways vs 8000 in Germany with the Autobahn. With 500 percent more highways in the U.S., you have a better chance of finding an open road.
Danny Vale speed limits are not slower than average in the US. In fact they are faster than most places: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country#Countries

I don’t even think money is the issue with unreliable cars. If a car doesn’t function, it’s not serving it’s purpose and the owner can’t enjoy it. For example, the Giulia QV. Great car that most wouldn’t own because it’ll be spending more time in the shop than on the road.
