As a Soldier, on one of these bases right now, I’d actually love it if we name it after a more current hero - we have had a few wars since the Civil War.
Yeah. We're a military family and we would be more than happy to have a Fort John McCain or a Fort York, or a Camp Rose, etc. There are plenty of good, brave people out there who are far more deserving of the honors than the ridiculous asshats some of these bases are named for now.

You know what, as a relative of Braxton Bragg, I'm perfectly fine with Fort Bragg being renamed. It's ridiculous to name a US military base after anyone who openly waged war against the US military! Also, Jacksonville, FL is my hometown and it absolutely does not have the capacity - or the revenue - to host the RNC in August, and it's just completely tone deaf to have it on the 60th anniversary of Ax Handle Saturday, where peacefully protesting Black people holding a sit-in at a local cafeteria were attacked by about 200 white men who were wielding bats and ax handles as weapons.

Do you really think it's a coincidence that the RNC is holding the convention there and then while Trump is holding a rally in Tulsa (the site of the worst anti-black race massacre in US history) on Juneteenth? How the actual shit could that NOT be intentional during one of the biggest black civil rights protests in American History? They could have held at any other dates, but they chose those in particular and in those places as opposed to anywhere else in the country. Trump and the Republican Party are giving the middle finger to activists while (more importantly) energizing racists with rather blatant dogwhistles to have them support him and attack protesters and minorities.

It is illegal to display a swastika in Germany, so white supremacists have adopted the Confederate flag as the new symbol. Don’t believe me.... do some research.
Ironically, swastika charms and pendants were hot sellers in the USA around the time of WW1. It was then deemed a symbol of good fortune, or a sunwheel. At least one organization in the English speaking world a century-plus ago...I forget the exact one...had the swastika as it's emblem.
Eh, I wouldn't count on it reaching that far. The Americans flying this flag were raised to believe it meant something to be proud of, and they remain ignorant of how and for what it was popularized.
Displaying swastikas and other anticonstitutional symbols is an actual criminal offense. In extreme and repeated cases those who use them could go to jail up to 3 years.
@@jambononi Yeah, the swastika used to be an important symbol of divinity for several different religions before the Nazi's got to it. You can still see it used in its original context every now and again but obviously it's extremely rare these days. Edit: Apparently it's still used quite commonly in parts of Asia.

The Democratic Party formed out of the ex-Confederacy. The name "democratic" refers to "voting for slavery." The Republican party formed to end slavery, with a "Republic" which protects the rights of all citizens.

Franklin Roosevelt ended discrimination in the 1930's in many of the federal programs and military, and Johnson ended it throughout the country with the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
