  • Nice Coverage Peter. Just a clarification for everyone, this hill climb competition is 300 meters & 50 degrees. They prepare for this race day since a long time (1 year) as it takes place every 1 year end of December in the middle of the desert in Liwa Oasis (Empty Quarter UAE side) Prizes are valuable (every 1st winner in each category gets a new Nissan Patrol Y61) plus a cash prize for the first three places in each category. That’s why “some” don’t run an air filter, they come to this race with spare engines, transmission, axles, driveshaft, etc just like when you go to a drag race competition everything can happen. Most cars belongs to workshops & some have sponsors. Every workshop/team have to proof himself in this competition & for UAE this race is the most popular (there is drag races, drift, 1/2mile race, etc everything comes to your mind) but sand race is different for us, people come all the way from Oman & Saudi Arabia to this event, there is also straight sand drag. N/A Category most cars run TB48 engine (Nissan Patrol inline 6) and its stroked from 4.8L up to +6.5L (by using a longer stroke crankshaft from 102mm to 130mm & up to 142mm) and running methanol fuel + big camshafts + Nitrous , etc so it makes a lot of power. Even without Nitrous, a stroked naturally aspirated high compression TB48 can make more than 550whp with race fuel.

    • @@cloudpandarism2627 You are so biased and jealous its funny. I was in the event at LIWA, matter of a fact, I am from the country that hosts the event, UAE. (4 times I have been at the event) No one gets paid minimum wage first of all, the "workers" who does all the tuning work and welding dont get paid minimum wage, fun fact, most of them actually own these cars, they tune it and let a team member drive, or they drive it them self's. Also, nothing costs millions of dollars, its not a formula race, its an event with prizes and people participate to win and get a reputation which will eventually boost the sponsors and the garage's name that tuned the vehicle, which makes this event even more profitable for the tuners. Emergency vehicles and staff respond 24/7 and the fastest time possible, if you compare responses in USA you will see it is faster here, its just the one clip which you saw where they took long wasn't even long, as you can see emergency polaris was already there but the fire extinguisher wasn't enough so they called for the other polaris which had better equipment, also dont forget that the vehicle was burning high in the hill and not in the street. If you visit liwa, you would see how professional the police and emergency staff there, they are everywhere and very responsive.

    • @@cloudpandarism2627 it’s funny you think they do this to entertain a few rich spectators. They do it because they love racing, they simply do it on a giant sand hill. No different than what we do in the US. We take 200-300 thousand dollar trucks and destroy them in mud holes, we also take million dollar drag cars and rebuild the 200 thousand dollar engines after every 3sec pass.
