Here's how I made a belt that turns into a sword from the movie The Spy Next Door. This belt features a full 3 foot metal sword that work's like a tape measure allowing it to fold up but also maintain a ridged shape when extended. It's made of super strong tempered steel, and can cut most objects thrown at it. Just grab onto the belt buckle, pull, and you now have a full metal sword at your disposal.

  • Maybe an arrow with a net inside. Corners of the net would be attached to quarters of the arrow head. The arrow would break apart into fourths and each corner of the arrow head would stick into the ground making the net spread out. Edit: each corner of the net would be attached to a quarter of the arrow head.

    • I would think that you could have a flat rod built into the handle that extends alongside the bendy part of the sword to keep it from bending but still maintaining its belt/sword capabilities.

    • You can just build a sword in different segments that are tied together so when you slice it hard enough it becomes a whip, like fire embelem 3 houses

      @jacobsturm1683@jacobsturm16832 жыл бұрын
    • @@jacobsturm1683 someone else already tried that. Tention is not a powerful enough force to keep them all together by itself. It will need to be magnetic or maybe buckle powered. They need some form of mechanism to lock and release at each segment. I'm sure there's a way to do it. But pure tension won't "cut" it.

      @Brick2buddies@Brick2buddies2 жыл бұрын

    • @@Brick2buddies Would a weak spring between segments work? It would snap together when still, and open when moved hard enough. There could be some strings threaded through the segments to keep the segments kinda stable? idk

  • The funny thing is that 'belt sword' did in fact exist. The Indian Urumi is a whip-like flexible sword that was often worn like a belt by looping the blade around the user's waist, with the handle at the user's side much like a regular sword. It was used somewhat similarly to a flail and generally had a small guard (with the typical 'disc hilt') with a slender knucklebow and a mostly decorative pommel 'spike', not to mention quite a bit of reach. Some wacky variations had multiple blades and were most often dual-wielded. I don't know how effective they were as a weapon, but they sure make for effective deterrence!

  • During the "montage" I was expecting to have your opponent say "How many swords do you have in that belt?!?!" only to have your outer shorts drop to the ground, at which time the opponent would say, "I guess that's the last one." The you reach and pull out another sword, and say, "No, no, no! There's always room for one more!" (Reference to "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves"). That, or since your opponent wanted to kiss you, you could have had on boxer shorts that had "Kiss This!" written on the back of them. (Reference to "Detroit Rock City")

  • With the link design you could use a pin lock system that would run the length of the sword. Each section would have its own spring loaded pin that locks into the next block and also pushes the next pin in to the next block and so on. these pins can all be pushed with a thumb lever at the base that is in a J track (think bolt action guns or pens). This would require significantly more precision but it would have serious rigidity. Definitely a job for a CNC mill.

  • "If we stiffen this up at all, it's not going to bend around our waist" It really only needs to maintain stiffness during swings, which I would think that you could do through centrifugal force by adding a weight to the tip of the blade, which wouldn't affect the elasticity of the band. I don't know why or how I'm here, but it must be for a reason... maybe this was it? Philosophy aside, the algorithm is weird today.

    @mtnbkr5478@mtnbkr54783 жыл бұрын
    • That wouldn't work too well. Then again who REALLY uses swords nowadays? And I mean as a self defense weapon not as a cosplay, reenactment, or a HEMA convention. If he sharpened it this could be a really damn good self defense weapon. Sure it's not THE BEST one but it is the most hidden and all you need to do is stab someone or slice someone and it does what it's supposed to do

      @kelmirosue3251@kelmirosue32513 жыл бұрын
    • @@kelmirosue3251 I mean, I think that's more due to the philosophy with self defense in this day and age. For a weapon to be considered for self defense it has to meet a certain degree of reasonable criteria that a traditional sword really doesn't. It has to be concealable, effective, quick to deploy, and comfortable to wear (so that you have it when you need it). Additionally, some consider the lethality of a weapon when they choose to carry, while others (unfortunately) don't consider the practicality of a weapon in various scenarios. For instance, I carry a Glock 27 (the .40 cal concealed carry pistol), but I would never want to use this against someone who is already in melee range if they have a knife, let alone in a crowded area with innocent bystanders. For that, I'd want to use my baton. The thing that these have in common is that they are comfortable to carry and easy to conceal (legally, in my case). Swords, on the other hand, are just for fun for me. They can't be concealed and are fairly uncomfortable to wear due to their tendency to get hung up on objects. Just... if you ever carry one for a day (such as at a reenactment event or renaissance faire), you'll see what I mean. That being said, if technology got to a point that I could carry a properly sharpened (and strengthened) belt sword, I wouldn't hesitate to have it as a replacement for my baton. It seems like it has the advantage of reach over a baton, as well as comfort and conceal-ability. It wouldn't replace my pistol, but it would certainly fill the niche of melee-backup EDC.
