Here's how I made a real Captain America shield that actually flies and bounces back. It's made of carbon fiber with a fiberglass ring to provide bounce while keeping maximum strength. The shield magnetically connects to the users wrist and can be thrown overhand like Captain America.
Thanks to @allenpan for the extreme levels of salt in this video.

  • Welcome to the cap club! Couldn't have done better myself, I never imagined a bouncing shield would work that well! Definitely a potential real product, you should try and partner with Disney to make them!

  • A note for the future if you wanna try this again; carbon fiber doesn’t have substantial stiffness by itself, it’s the resin that’s super rigid. If you could find an alternative option for the bonding resin, something softer and more flexible while still being durable, you could make the entire shield from carbon fiber with that alternative resin

  • What a simple build! This is one of your best projects! This looks so much attainable and is so close to the movie and comics. Like that ratio is perfect!

  • Surprisingly enough, he actually DOES calculate how the shield bounces back.

  • You should try replacing the magnets on the shield with a magnetic ring instead, where the diameter matches the magnets on your arm. That way you might be able to catch the shield on you arm with the magnets regardless of the shields orientation

  • I love the hacksmith, but sometimes since they’re so professional they don’t have many failed attempts on stuff, but seeing the trial and error for J, just so much more interesting to watch the actual build rather than just skipping to the final product

  • Funny thing is, in the comics, the actual canon explanation for the shield bouncing perfectly IS that Cap can calculate the exact trajectory needed for that throw. He practiced a lot to be able to do that.
