This is more beautiful than anything he achieved at his peak. It makes me genuinely emotional to see this much heart. What a legend.
Same. Feeling choked watching those highlights. Shaking my head in disbelief.
Must be one of greatest comebacks in tennis, not just because of his physical injury struggles but to be 2-0 sets and 5-2 games down. Absolutely incredible.
Also having a near 5 hour match just 2 days ago, to have that quality he had hardly making errors in the end is crazy. Does anyone recall a player winning 2 back to back matches of that length before in a slam?
I thinks wimbledon 2019 changes your opinion dude 😀
@J Gooner894 Absolutely correct. Don't recall another example of someone his age and injury history coming through 2 5-hour marathons back to back in a grand slam
МаЛчик!?? Ты давно теннис смотришь? Ты не видел настоящих камбеков..🤣🌺🤣
Thats how Big 4 works 😂
So, let's recap this. Andy is nearly 36 years old, he had two hip surgeries, and he has a metal hip. Four years ago he was told he will never play tennis again. It's 2023 now, and he is still competing. Moreover, two days before this match he played against Berrettini, a top 10 player, and they played for 4.5 hours where he won in 5 sets. That brings us to this match where he played against a very good and talented player that is 9 years younger than him, playing in front of home crowd, and leading 2:0 in sets and 5:2 in games. What Andy did is one of the most impressive feats that I saw in sport as a whole. Granite solid display of one of the greatest tennis players ever. Being a Đoković fan, I cannot but wonder whether Đoković would have his 21 slams today if Andy was healthy all these years. I'm sure he wouldn't.
I don't believe novak would have 21 imo being a novak fan myself! The level andy displayed to get to world number 1 was imo what novak was displaying a year before and it would of possibly gone down as the greatest rivalry of a few years to ever be witnessed.
Nadal won roland garros with a numb foot
@South Nicosia TBH its impressive but not still competing after having a whole new hip replacement impressive.
He's not 'almost 36? He turns 36 in may.
Great commentary, but her opponent is a freind of nick , so when a freind of nick lost an opportunity of finishing the game in 2.0 5.2 , u know in that case that murray will win , it's just always like that Great match
No matter how this tournament ends, great respect for the legendary Andy for his career path, few people could go through such that he went through and still show such a game my applause👏👏👏
what he went through ?
@@luke.skywalker he‘s playing with a second hip. He was pretty much always injured, missing many major tournaments and still somehow managed to get number 1 in the world ahead of Roger, Novak and Rafa… I don’t even wanna think about what he could have achieved without injuries
@@luke.skywalker why the sarcasm? Its well known what he went through with injuries and now a metal hip and his love of the game making him not afraid to keep losing or drop out the rankings. No way would/will Fed, Nadal, Djokovic be prepared to do that as they like to go out on top.
@@pilzz03 thanks for your explanations, I just haven't follow his career so much, but he is well-disciplinned and hard-working person, thanks again 👍
@@TheNOGGS it was well-known for you dear friend, thanks for your reply 👍 I continue working too 💛
Quite simply one of the greatest fighters in sporting history. To even be on the court after everything that he went through is an achievement in itself, but I can't imagine the kind of mental strength you need to hold it together through matches like this. Breathtaking stuff. No wonder he's now won more matches from 2 sets down than any player in history
Wow, didn’t know that stat, that’s a great one, and says everything about him. Amazing player and amazing person.
Didn’t know he’d won the most from 2-0 down. Can’t say I’m surprised though. Genuinely don’t think any tennis player has displayed greater fighting qualities when down and almost out.
@@lingolarker9318 Well i think in Djokovic and Nadal's cases it's just super difficult to get the first two sets🤣
Yeah, very much a huge NO. Very much a greetin faced choker, in the annals of sporting greats he would be lucking to maybe come in under the top 1000. Get a grip of yersel.
@@SMSCOOBY71 he did say ‘greatest fighters in sporting history’ not greatest sportsmen. In my opinion 3 grand slams in the era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is pretty great, but that’s another conversation.
In anybody's book; that is an amazing comeback from 2-0, 5-2. Throw in a metal hip and 35yrs of age and this could be the match of the year already. Take a bow, Andy...
also throw in coming off another 5 setter with a top 20 player 48 hours before!
I watched the start of the match during my lunch break and they were still going when I finished work 😄. Murray is just incredible, quite possibly Britain’s best ever sportsman.
Murray earning so much more respect at such a late stage of a legendary tennis career. He deserves this title.
If he wins it.
😂😂
he will barely walk next match though
@@TMPOUZI Possibly, but you probably said that after his 5 setter against Matteo Berrettini too didn’t you?
I wouldn’t write him off too quickly. I didn’t watch the game live, but I thought he looked very strong in those last couple of sets against a far younger opponent. You can see how the training has paid off. Similar to other posts I also felt emotional watching those highlights. What a fighter he is 👍🏻
This match deserves a 30 minute highlights video. Kokkinakis hit 102 winners and still lost!
What can I say other than Andy is doing Andy things 🤷🏻♂️
I am a huge Murray fan but I give so much respect to Kokkinakis. He has had so many injuries too. He is a very talented player. I really hope Kokkinakis has his successes and stays healthy.
I think this man lives to make his mother proud. Don’t think any of this would’ve been possible without their relationship and admiration for eachother.
Sir Andy Murray, the man who could win two consecutive five-set Grand Slam matches with an artificial hip. Legend. Hats off. For me, no matter what happens next in the tournament, he is already a moral winner.
Match of the year so far. Crazy comeback from 0:2 and 2:5 in the third set. Kokkinakis made a few stupid mistakes and dropped his level a little bit in the most crucial moments, but the blood and sweat Murray put in this match is amazing. So happy for him!
19 days into the year, that's quite adventurous to say so
@@deimos2126 he said so far, meaning that it can change tomorrow if needs be, just that for now, this is the best match played this year
@@deimos2126 so far it is the best match played

a FEW mistakes lol
this match pops right into one of my best matchs ever. Murray's unbelievable never say die attitude, technical skills, ability to master the net rush at 35 although he's been back court guy all his life...pure talent. The guy is like a absolute tutorial for all aspects of the game :-)
One of the best comebacks in last couple years.Huge respect to Andy.
@@alexbrands11 and tell me of your achievements in life?show some respect troll
one of the best come backs ever
Absolutely unbelievable comeback. Of course Kokkinakis seemed to underestimate Murray's hustle at those crucial points and wasn't there physically as he should have been, but it's take so much willpower, determination and strength to use those opportunity and turn that it around in moments where you seem to believe you're unable to. Few years later and those two rounds from Murray will be remembered as an astonishing feat considering his health.
Andy Murray is a phenomenon. Lionhearted doesn’t cover it. Look at his reaction at the end too. Unreal willpower and staying power🤯
This is one of those times when you can describe something as "epic". Murray's comeback is one for the ages. The stuff of legends.
Murray's backhand was like a laser in the last 2 sets.
2:21 -Start of the Comeback -Point of the tournament -Point of the jear -Just unreal
This surely goes down to one of the matches of the year already. epic players. epic match.
epic player Kokkinakis??? lol.
@@giedriusk.4321did you even watch the game?
australian player was epic? :))))) made my day
@@giedriusk.4321 bro pushing like that for 5h45 obviously both deserved to win this
His celebration at the end was the best part of the video! He is a legend!!!
2 sets and 5-2 up in the 3rd set……..he Kokk’d that right up.
19th of January and Murray has played 2 matches over 10 hours and has 2 contenders for match of the year already 🤣💀🙌
unbelievable. Andy Murray is a true example of strength and resiliency. Love to see such a will and determination
Been a fan of Andy since he burst onto the scene at queens all those years ago when he beat nalbanden.( excuse the spelling) ave seen all his highs and lows and tonight he’s proved tht he’s the best player ever to come from the uk. He doesn’t always get the credit he deserves in the uk a don’t know if it’s because he’s Scottish. The man is such an inspiration and to do wht he’s done in these last 2 matches is just jaw dropping. Sir Andy Murray you are a legend
I think surly look, scruffy hair and Scottish accent was unlike that nice Tim Henman that the English didn’t like. They are, actually good friends!
That’s why we love 5 setters! What a match that was 🤩 I’m a big fan of Kokkinakis but what a comeback of Murray that was. He simply never gives and that’s so impressing. Great sportsmanship at the net!
And Kokkinakis has spoken very warmly about Murray too. Kokkinakis has had more than his fair share of injuries, and his ranking does not reflect his huge talent. I really hope he has his moment this year and next and stays healthy
2:24 Brilliant anticipation and defence from Murray!!
Holy, it was crazy
He's one of the greatest defenders of the court ever.
Brilliant from Andy 35 and with all those injuries, he is and has been a great great player in any other era he would be on at least 10-13 grand slam titles, so unlucky to be playing in the same period as the three greatest players in history.
I'd rather have achieved everything he's won in that era then having no competition..guy still won practically everything and if it wasn't for the hip when he was world number 1 then he possibly adds a few more slams but man's a monster
I’ve never seen another tennis player quite like Andy Murray 👌🏻👌🏻just unbelievable man absolutely unbelievable
He is an absolute icon. So inspired by this man!!
Great effort from both, but Murray had the biggest heart of the two!
В следующем круге все сольет в 3х сетах..🤣🌺🤣
This is what never giving up is really about. Just no words...
Absolute warrior. The man has the same steel in his nerves as he does in his hip. A joy to watch we should enjoy him while we can
That was INSANE!!! I am in complete awe of Murray's skill and fighting spirit.
The legend who never wanted to retire. He played his game, perfectly, what a way, what a win !
I got goosebumps! Historical comeback from Sir Andy Murray.
The Scottish Braveheart may not have won as many Majors as Fed, Djokovic, Nadal but he in terms of sheer guts and never say die attitude he is the GOAT!
Absolutley, only injuries done this guy from what he deserved, truly inspired watching this match.
One of the greatest matches I have ever watched! Sir Andy Murray I thank you!
Last 5 years he has been limited and hampered by things beyond his control...hope he has a great run this year and wins some titles with god's grace 🙂
What a great fight. Congrats to both gentlemen.
Sensational tennis from Murray, his back was against the wall and he came through magnificently.
That is why I love tenis …and Andy Murray!
Omg Murray what a comeback I got home and thought the game had finished but no Murray still battling on even though he looked absolutely knakered, where did he find the strength and mental fortitude to pull this win off the guys made of granite great win Andy I won’t forget this game one of your best
Hip of steel, nerves of steel, balls of steel
The guy has a metal hip, for god’s sake. Absolutely amazing, the grit, the gut, the HUGE heart.
Right up there with Connors vs Penfors at 1986 Wimbledon.
It does remind me of late era connors, sheer willpower
Wow! I literally just checked the score there and my jaw almost hit the floor. I'd known earlier that Andy was 2 sets to love down, so was 100% convinced that he would be going home. Literally incredible game. What's more remarkable is that he had to come back from 2 games down in the 3rd set, so was really up against it. What mental fortitude, tenacity and sheer will-power to come back from such a deficit from such a dangerous and talented opponent in Kokkinakis. Well done, Andy!
Blown away. God the amount of time I’ve spent screaming at the TV because of this man 🤣🤣🤣
Heroic. Iconic. Lionheart.
That point at 2 sets down 0-2 is just insane! It should be the point of the year
Andy when he retires would be the ideal coach for Emma R. He would get her fitness into top shape.
Odlot! Andy jest niesamowity. Jego obrona to najwyższa półka. 2:21 - Akcja meczu, dnia, a być może także i całego turnieju. BRAWO! Andy is amazing. His defense is top notch. 2:21- the action of the match, the day, and perhaps the entire tournament. BRAVO!
Murray's back 💪💪💪 Best AO 2023 match so far. Both were exceptional 👏👏
these are the craziest highlights I've ever seen in my life.
No matter who wins the Tournament.. Andy Murray is my Hero!
Uncle Murray - What a come back 😂
Both players were amazing but Murray... That level of commitment to the cause!
Andy Murray is amazing and my all time favourite player xxx
Murrey IS a FIGHTER!! OMG huge respect to him. He is just AWESOME
This match alone was worth the £6.99 Discovery+ month subscription…phenomenal effort from both players
Yea I bought the sun to watch this and I feel I have my money’s worth already , didn’t get a lot of work done though
It takes two to have an epic, cracking win and cracking hitting from kokky
True champion. Well done Andy
Wow! Wow! Wow! Tennis is so much better when Murray is playing. Former World No.1 showing what a true competitor looks like.....
Absolute joy to watch Murray show everyone he’s just about still here. Great performance, I just hope it’s not going to fatigued coz I want him to win this
I would be more proud over this win than almost anything Murray has ever won. That’s how sick that was.
In my opinion playing at this time is inhuman for the players and the ATP has to think about it, but apart of that: What Andy has accomplished tonight (or in the morning) was not from this world! E P I C !!! 👍👍👍
Agreed. Starting a match that late is poor scheduling. Respect to those fans who hung around till the end. 4.05am!
Agreed. Besides the players, how can they keep the ball kids at that time on the court 🤦🏻♀️
Murray is inhuman so we’re good
EPIC is used a lot these days for tennis matches, even his 1st round match was called EPIC! so which was more EPIC??
Agreed. I could hardly believe it when I saw that the match didn't end until after 4am. The match starting after 10pm made no sense either... I know it was a good game but who tf really wants to go to an overnight game getting all tired and cold? Are Aussies nocturnal or something? It's unfair on the players too!
I’m soo proud of Andy! His inspirational never give up attitude is why I followed his pro career from day one! 🏴♥️
Tears in my eyes, thank you so much Andy!!
A battle for AGES... ! Simply MESMERIZING !
wow! Kokkinakis playing so well but Murray you are AMAZING!!!💪💪💪
Well done Andy - so proud of you still showing these youngsters how it's done - totally epic match!
That was amazing. Wish I could have seen the full thing! What a comeback.
OMG ....Andy you are amazing .
I think that was the most fantastic matches I’ve ever seen, the skill, the pace…pure brilliance from them both.
What an epic encounter! It is absolutely one of the epic clashes of the tennis history I have watched in my life. 5 hours 45 minutes, what it implies for us. It implies that the tennis will keep evolving in the world in order to watch more epic showdowns. Moreover, I am really blissfull for the sensational victory of Andy Murray. He has totally created the history by dismantling Australian Kokkinakis in 5 sets. Especially in AO. Massive congratulations to Andy Murray! Wishing you success in the upcoming round!
A man of focus, commitment, sheer will.
you know its a good game when ivan looks impressed
I was at work and saw him 2 sets and 5-2 down then checked my phone at the end of shift and he was serving for the match! Unbelievable from Murray, he may not be the same but his mental state is, compete for every ball and don’t give up!
Wow. Kokkinakis hits so hard. Some comeback from Murray. Totally see the emotion and pride on Judy's face. Great stuff
Yes, unbelievable, respect.
niesamowity mecz, Murray przekroczył wszystkie granice, wielkie gratulacje
this is one of the top 10 matches in history of tennis.lets go Murray
The quality of shorts in this match were superb 👌. Congratulations Murray 👏
The GOAT discussion has ended. Murray 🐐🐐
Kokkinakis does get some amazing angles with his forehand - that too with pure power !
What can you say, vintage Murray, just fantastic to watch, has the heart of a lion, one of the best players out there ,bring on Wimbledon 23 👍😊
Really beyond words…..incredible
Think we've just seen the match of the year only 19 days in. Murray is an absolute legend.
What a come back! You still got it Andy
2:20 Best Defensive Player in the history of the sport 🤷♂️🔥
Brillant Andy, belle remontée pour terminer vainqueur de ce match. Où allez-vous chercher cette force,le mental me direz-vous, je suis époustouflée. Bravo à ces deux GRANDS joueurs 👍👍👍
Thank you Andy, thank you Thanasi. What a Match😳
Total of 11h on court... in two matches!! Absolutely unbelievable! Hope he reaches at least semis!
Well, that's just hope then, cuz there's no any way he goes that far, it's mathematics
@@ijump-bounce2283 yeah but you don’t know do you cos it’s not maths it’s sport
@@patrickkelly9110 Well, mathematics have proven Nadal wouldn't be able to do great in AO, i said he's not in good shape at all those last months and we saw it. There's a difference between hope and what will probably happen, there's no way he reached Semi except if there's withdraw from an opponent etc.
Breathtaking
Epic match. One of the all time great matches. Murray is an inspiration. Amazing.
Almost 6 hours of intense gameplay. Just wow 🤩 What an effort this was! 💪
This match had everything! Unreal battle.. tough loss for Kokki, but have no words to describe Andy.. after all these years.. vintage Andy circa 2012 level 👏 mind boggling 🤯
Soooo happy for Murray. To do this at his age with an artificial hip is legendary.
Simply amazing!
Dear eurosport, Thank you for this highlights
