I'm a huge fan of Benny the Jet. Been a inspired by him as a martial artist for years after seeing him in Wheels on Meals so long ago. I'm bengie watching all of his stuff now: fights, interviews, seminars etc as I never saw everything. Knowing he was undefeated, I'm going back to watch all fights in order.....however, after this fight, I have two things to say: 1. Such a damn beast of a fight this was between two warriors and superior fighters, in different age brackets. This was literally a war, but one held with the highest respect by both, which in turn earns my respect. 2. This man Tagami, it was my first time seeing him, and just from this fight alone, he has my total respect, and I'm a full fledged supporter of him that will definitely be checking him out. His sportsmanship, great fighting ability and heart has won me over indefinitely. 3. This decision is honestly hard to watch....as much of a fan of Benny that I am, there's no way I can say he won this fight. I do understand him as him being the legend he is, it was completely in his favor with the odds. However, the Tagami honestly got the best of him with those THREE knock downs...sigh that's rough because my guy earned the hell out of that Victory, but it was not awarded to him. With all that being said, it's the past and it us what it is. Life goes on. This is one of the best Battles I've seen period and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of Benny's career. As I'm in film as well, 15 years in martial arts, s stunt Performer and just got into the live action Bourne Stuntacular show, I have every intention to meeting Benny one day. Gotta keep the hope and hard work alive! Absolutely amazing video 🙌🏿

Like most comments, surprised the two knock downs weren’t counted. I am a forever fan of Benny’s, met him and his brother Arnold (who was inducted into The Karate HOF in 06) and am friends with his son Arnold jr. a black belt. The whole family is immersed in Martial Arts and has for years maintained a respected training facility in the San Fernando valley. His sister use to also train young practitioners at the facility. Benny is one of the greatest to ever lace up the gloves 👏🏽

"After winning five World Championships in four separate weight divisions, Benny The Jet retired in 1989, only to return to the ring in 1993 for one final professional match to seal his legendary status. At age 42, it was an incredible feat, defeating the 25-year-old reigning champion from Japan. Just so you’re aware, this feat has never been seen before, or since to this day. In fact, Benny The Jet remained undefeated for 27 years, becoming the longest reigning World Champion…EVER!" ... lol i love the american press

He was a red belt, and I thought he was good. But I think it wasn't a good call and that was clearly a knockdown with Benny with that left hook against the ropes, but the referee didn't called it and benny new it was knocked down. Daddys little girl! Hello Everyone!! I'm Monique Urquidez , My father is Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. I haven't blogged or commented on my dad in awhile, but reading comments from fans and the And everyone on this fight. I'll share the inside scope from my experience at this fight. Tagami vs Dad. . This was the last time my father, a living legend, and my hero . Master Benny Urquidez performe for his fans. A week before the fight in training my father broke his hand. But dad continued training until fight day. As the warrior he is , dad still was going to fight. Dad kept in silence . If the doctors knew this the fight would not have continued. It was an intense fight for everyone in the audience, especially our family. I walked out in the 8th round and started to cry as I knew my father was in pain.. As the warrior he is he fought the distance. After the fight Tagami, his family and our family went to dinner, broke bread, laughed and shared experiences, our way of life. My father fought and performed for all his fans! There will be more experiences I will share from my eyes. Love you all!!

For starters , I thought you guys should know, the fight between 23 yr. Old Tagami and my dad 50 yrs old Was a great fight, but you all should know that my dad went into the ring with a broken left hand and if the Doctors knew,. The jet wouldn't of fought his last Retiring fight. I'm going to start a blog on my father, except they're going to be my stories. my father fought hard as nails like the warrior he is , My dad was so cool , after every fight he would take his opponents and their family and our family out to dinner after the fight and became life long friends! I must say it's a great feeling knowing my dad is loved and Respected by his fans and opponents around the world! So again, to all Benny the Jet fans, I will be sharing the story of my dad through my eyes! Love you all!!

But he’s the champ, and the younger guy was hurt and achingly close to a knockout. The later rounds are called the championship rounds for a reason. The kid fought brilliantly to stay on his feet cause no doubt about it he was cobwebs in the last three rounds. But showing incredible tactics, Tegami, while clearly hurt wisely used the best defence is offence and courageously came forward while the champ was careful cause a wounded animal could be dangerous. But that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it, lol.

I like your post. You were humble enough to say you, "thought". Too many in here are declaring Tagami the winner, and it is obvious they do that because they have no clue how to score a fight, (according to a particular fight/rules). The main reason Urquidez won this fight is because of his complete leg dominance regarding the leg to leg aspect, but also his leg to upper body/head. Even in 9 when Urquidez went down, if you watch it again, Urquidez out scored Tagami. Tagami would have had to have a 2 point difference by all three judges in that round and it was not warranted. NOTE: I guess you know a fighter getting tired does not affect the score card. Yes, Urquidez vs Tagami, Urquidez got more worn in some of the fight. But also, the fighter that got the most hurt at a given time was Tagami. Just a note: I watched this again. I have seen it multiple times through the years, including after it happened. But no, I was not there.

Tagami scored 2 knock downs, Urquidez 1, according to the way _you_ saw the fight. Tagami _did not_ score 3 knock downs! In reality, at the most, Tagami could have been given one flash knock down. However, none of that determined a total win or loss for either fighter. The outcome on the score cards was fair. You need to learn how to properly score a fight, (according to the rules of a particular fight/organization/rules.

You willing to tell that to the judges who scored in favor of Tagami. In the end count, one of the judges gave it to Tagami.

Watch him in his fights he knocks people down they take more then 5 on the mat he not all the on the mat and back up . If it takes you if you can't keep him on the ground for 2 seconds
I love Benny, a legend, such humble person, a role model for all, but honestly I believe the other fighter deserves to be the winner. All respect for both the fighters.
Urquidez will always be my favorite fighter. But this fight deserved to be won by Tagami.
I also felt the same, may be we needed a rematch between these two guys. benny would make adjustments and defeat the aggressive tagami. benny lost this one
@@citizensdigest5156 I agree
I agree. However, Benny's humbleness wins it doesn't matter weather he wins or loose.
I agree with you
F you

How's it going?
I’m not a kickboxing guy, but I absolutely love the big smiles these guys share whenever the red breaks them up. Pure respect and love of the sport, that’s so motivating.
Tagami was robbed especially by that last judge, but damn 25 vs 41 years. That was spectacular.
Maravilloso combate
i see 2 gentelmens on the ring. Great technic, great spirit!
Right and enjoy...it would be difficult to find that today.
You get it right ! two gentlemen, great combatants

I like Benny because he used a wide variety of techniques, punches, kicks, take downs, throws, and he hit hard with either hand. Easily one of the very best of all time.
In fact, Benny The Jet remained undefeated for 27 years, becoming the longest reigning World Champion…EVER!" ... lol i love the american press
in this fight Benny the jet and Tagami are at the same level but in this case for a Little beat won tagami
The way they throw combos is so smooth and accurate! Thx for posting.
I like benny But he lost this one. Anyone can see it.
yep, i think he lost this one.
Yes u r right
Absolutely. I can't believe the corruption
I thought Benny needed a KO to win. Tagami had the edge except for spots most of the fight.
i know this doesnt matter but Benny had a hairline fracture in his left hand from a sparring match a few days or so before the fight, so he wasnt able to throw his signature left hook.
Benny is an inspiration to me but Tagami won this one, and he shows true respect even after being robbed.
I say the same thing.
@@moneystewart5257 I was into martial arts back in the 70s and I watched Benny arquintes at the tournament at the Long Beach arena when he lost against Joe Lewis. He was a red belt, and I thought he was good. But I think it wasn't a good call and that was clearly a knockdown with Benny with that left hook against the ropes, but the referee didn't called it and benny new it was knocked down. But then again you got to give Benny credit since he was 45 and the other guy was 25 a 20 year big difference.
I'm a lifelong fan of The Jet but hav to giv this to Tagami altho the judges say not. Benny is towards decline here at over 40yrs, weaker here but his iron will helped him survive the continuos aggresion of the youthful Tagami. This is one helluva fight akin to Ali vs Frasier.
I agree with you
@@juanlopez9017 didn't they say it was a sixteen year gap? I'll have to check lol
I wish I watched this more as a kid...Benny is awesome....
I watched this fight on PPV, still have it on videotape! And yes, I had Bennie losing this fight... still got mad respect for Bennie & his skills though. Always will be one who have me inspiration to start & continue in martial arts. Been 31 years now.
Much respect to Benny, he did come back strong in the later rounds. However, not calling the first 2 knockdowns was ridiculous. Tagami got robbed.
There were like “father and son” fighting there…
Tagami is very humble waow touch my heart together high emotions, great feelings
great fighter with technique, but benny lost
A bunch of useless people can’t write English
Wow! This is probably the best stand-up fight I have seen so far. Great fighters!
Great fight..the depth of Benny showing when he couldn't go toe-to-toe with a younger stronger fighter and although being knocked down 3 times he still showed heart and almost won the fight..but Tagami was clearly robbed
When fighting someone with such an extensive record and legend I feel that you have to totally dominate the fight or KO to get a split decision win. That being said Tagami was a true warrior here Benny The Jet and Tagami have a great respect for each other Tagami brought The Jet flowers and visited Benny after the fight to give respect 🙏
They’re friendly while trying to hurt each other. True athletes. Impressive.
Wow nunca pensé que fuera tan educado y humilde. De verdad me quedé gratamente asombrado. Un grande entre grandes el Sr. Urquidez.
I grew up in 80s karate kid Benny was.is my hero
This fight was amazing. Thanks for the post. Really great stuff
Two fantastic fighters. I only saw Benny fight one live. He was scary.
Urquidez, really lost! Flook! Though I like Urquidez so much. But this was a bad decision. 3 knockdowns and only 1 counted yet the Japanese guy never was knocked down.
Elichai Peretz ..... it happens sometimes. The Judges favor the Old Champ in his backyard. It was Benny’s last fight. Believe me YoungBlood Benny would’ve got KO Win. I got to see Benny fight in LA at The Olympic & The Forum back in the ‘70s
exacto
Agree
4:35 looks like a knock down to me
I can't believe how humble and respecful Tagami is
I had no idea that these kind of international fights were going on at that time...warriors....thanks for the post
Scott Hammond .... you can see lots of Muay Thai influences in both fighters. One of my siblings trained with Benny in the 70’s & I got to see him fight 3-4 times. Lots of fight fans of today are unfamiliar with this history. The Jet hadn’t fought in 4 years at this time. He really was a true pioneer
When you’re 41 years old and you fight like that against a 25-year-old master, you won.
Wow, a nice parting gift for the Jet. He was a legend.
I never watch a whole entire fight. I usually skip every now and then. But this fight right here was too awesome.
Benny should have lost this fight... I love the guy & he is a legend... remember to that Benny hadn't been in the ring in four years prior to this fight so you gotta give him respect for the fight he gave... but he should have lost...
Daddy's Little girl. I'm Monique Urquidez, daughter of Benny the Jet Urquidez. It has been a long time since I've reviewed and posted on any of my dad's Fights.

Yes, I agree. Benny was a great fighter but he clearly loss this fight.
HEY ..SHAME ON YOU ..SENSEI BENNY THE TRUE WINNER IN THIS MATCH..I WONDERED YOU UPLOADED THE MATCH AND MAKE YOURSELF JUDGE..
What a freaking great fight! Mr Urquidez thanks
The greatest and cleanest fight i ever seen!

With all due respect to Benny, Yoshihisa Tagami got robbed in this fight: he dropped Benny, what, two or three times, & Benny won the decision? The judges obviously gave Benny this win as a sentimental favorite.
That's in USA. Result would be different had the fight taken place elsewhere.

I was there and I still think Tagami won this fight. Have watched this fight many times and still each time Tagami has won.

Tagami loved to hit syncronizing with the bell ring
Foi uma luta incrível!👏👏👏
I think that as a recognition of his career they gave Urquidez the victory, but honestly he was overcome, a lot of difference in speed and power of blows, it is because of age apparently!
Even in fights you can see Benny showing a gesture of respect towards his opponents.
Man it goes beyond respect. Benny should respect and love to his fellow craftsman. Even moved Tagami to tears. I get that. I get that.

Conmovedora pelea,dos grandes seres humanos
Great fight. I thought Yoshihisa Tagami won, but these warriors both won
