i started kickboxing back in 89 under the PKA. to fight like this kicking and punch for 12 rounds takes extreme fitness and mental strength. even just 3 rounds of normal sparing takes it out of you. 2 great fighters right here.
i swear it does
I did PKA, AND WKA BACK IN THE MID 80S, who are you might of fought you
I'm Rance from the UK. I trained under David clatworthy of Bristol I started training back in 89. @@jason75
Old school 80's Kickboxing Classic! Thanks for sharing!
This is great, I never saw this fight
Agreed😁💪💪💪
Don “The Dragon” Wilson, was really utilizing those leg kicks, and those lead leg side kicks. Modern fighters could learn a lot from watching these old school fighters.
Don the dragon one of my favorite fighters. Your looking at likely the best kickboxer of all time
Yep, when we were fighting PKA no leg kicks (see fight that changed the world in kickboxing R. Roufus.) Then the WKA added leg kicks holy heck it was tough to learn that for many. We had a young master named Chai Sirisute new to USA that trained us thanks to Guro Dan. So, we learned...(also thanks to Sifu Francis.) Those were the days. There is also some pretty good fights of Benny the Jet before and after on here. Somewhere there is one the first time he got in the ring with a Muay Thai fighter. (before we went to Thailand to train and well....the rest is history look it up.)
@@geu6270 I’ve watched the fight with Rick Roufus and the Muay Thai fighter. Those leg kicks were brutal, and Rick had to be carted off afterwards. I think that it speaks to Dukes character that despite stating immediately after the fight that “leg kicks take no skill” he later changed his opinion after attending a seminar, it is shows an open minded martial artist! I will have to check out that Benny Urquedez fight!
Yes, they both don't know how to fight at all, I still thought they were the best
Oh don't worry, we are. Osu!
I grew up in the 80's being an Alexio fan but Wilson's leg kicks were hell. No doubt these are two Warriors! Thanks for the upload.
Como el dragón Wilson pocos
Damn. I remember watching this on a small wooden box tv in a hilton hotel. Good ol' days.
I was ring side! :) Yep, the good ole days.
Haha thats one of type tv's elvis presley put a bullet hole in. Also inside a hilton hotel. 😅
This is better than movies, imagine a movie where Eric Sloane fought Jake from Bloodfist?! Fucking epic.
He fought Tong Po.
@@DJKID777 seriously? This clip is actually what I was saying would be awesome lol, not sure I know what You’re trying to say.
Bloodfight
@@NoSoyLunaProductions bloodfist. Blood fight is the one with bolo.
I had no idea that the older brother from kickboxer was actually a really good kickboxer irl.
Hahaha.. in Kickboxer he plays Eric Sloane The Undisputed Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion of the World... And in real life, at the time he made Kickboxer, he Really was the Undisputed Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion of the World... So yeah.. he was really, in my opinion, the greatest Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion of all time.. he ended his career 70-2 With 65 KO/TKO.. I'd say he was a really, really good kickboxer 👀
I know him, he almost turned down the role because he didn't want to portray a loser!!
He's Kickin Ass Wherever he goes😅
But the movie producers dubbed his voice because it is actually very high and soft IRL.
Eric Sloane: "you can't win fights with that tip tap shi*!".
16:20 Rob Kaman in the audience behind Don's corner....the low kicks he learned from him made the difference, how smart he was not only the most graceful fighter but also the smarter to go learn new technics in Holland who were the first to beat the Thai and the most advanced in kick boxing
Yes indeed! Holland is the best in Kickboxing! Unfortunately they don't get the recognition they deserve! Rob Kaman, Ramon Dekkers, Ernesto Hoost etc etc!
Rob Kaman is an absolute beast with his low kicks.
Alexio is in jail for 15 years for Tax Fraud.? What a horrible ending for a fighter.
After this loss Alexio said fuck it and knocked everyone else out
He looses also from Stan in Australia?
@@mategradac199 originally that was a No Contest fight (because his leg was broken a few seconds into the 1st round and he couldn't continue).. Australia counts it as a loss so overall that gives Alexio 2 official loses..but, by American rules he only has 1 loss to Don 'The Dragon'Wilson.. and if you just watched this video, Alexio lost by decision in the 12th round.. (he lost points in 2 rounds for not throwing 8 kicks above the waist) if you were watching like I was you can clearly see 👀 that Dennis Alexio won this fight...
@@stonehaven2289 yes he won here... but loose to stan- it was legal leg kick that break his leg... Alexio was great but he do not fight the best: hoost, aerts, hug... But in full contact rules Alexio was beast- in K1 I am sure that rick roufus, aerts will beat him
@@stonehaven2289I also thought Alexio won the fight he landed the better shots but it don't seem like the judges scored the punching as much as the kicking
Don Wilson said he was in his Prime when this happened. Alexio was just starting out. Alexio's skills increased tremendously after this fight. Wilson knew a rematch wouldn't be good for him. Alexio started off as a linebacker football player in college and was drafted to be a pitcher for a pro baseball team. He took Karate to get faster and more flexible for football in college. He did the point Karate thing and Kickboxing came along and he decided to try it and loved it. He started off with Kajukenbo with a guy in Vacaville Ca. named Eugene Ray before he started Kickboxing and changed trainers.
Wilson was sick for this fight. Alexio missed weight by 7 lbs, so they created a new weight class for this fight to happen. Don's leg kicks put Dennis in a wheelchair.
No tatoos or sociopathic behavior yup the 80s
these were a terue warrios but in the same time they had respect each and other, not like the sportive man of today like mma only trash talking and tatto's ,this is better than mma ,i like so much the old kickboxing styles
You know that most of the fighters from big promotions are quite humble and respectfull but mma tops full contact karats in any way
@@nathandiaz4360 UFC has become bland a bit, over the years, though...
i aggree with you, i feel if you want to watch mma or a cage fight look no nfurther than your average brawl outside most niteclubs. rolling around pounding eachother (no pun intended)
Up until now I didn't know that Wilson handed Alexio his first loss.
I was literally a month old when this fight happened. Born 2/29/84. What a fight!
Don Wilson really shows why he was the champ, taking on the Terminator, Dennis Alexio. I have seen Alexio fight in person and the guy has power. A cut on Wilson's eye looked like from an elbow from Alexio, which at the time was an illegal blow. What a great archival presentation. One more thing, Wilson was just getting over the flu, so it's questionable how much he could have worked out heading into the match, but he really has a lot of heart and demonstrated why he was a genuine champ.
Don had only been sick for the week before the fight, so it wasn’t a matter of him not being able to train leading into the fight, it was that his on fight night energy levels would still be off & his system generally weakened from being sick But yes Don was a great fighter. But, at the point of this fight, Denis wasn’t yet The Terminator. You can see he is much less muscled than his final form.
Weird to see Alexio lose. That guy destroyed just about everyone back in the day.
In other words, Don shouldn't have won.
@@onceagain6184Strategy.... He had to be very strategic due to his physically weakened state.
Thanks for posting, I never saw this fight.
Don Wilson is a legend in kickboxing. Also his fights are awesome weather in real life or in the movies
Oh, thisis that moustache dude, from kickboxer 1, who played Vandams brother
thats him an absolute wanker, stan the man ,an australian broke his leg with a turning kick, end of fight and career
That decision was overturned because a hole in the ring was what actually broke Alexio’s leg and he was awarded the victory. The fight with Don the dragon was the only fight Alexio ever lost and he had 68 wins and 1 loss to Don when he retired after the fight with Stan he fought 13 more times and won all 13 fights. He is ya legend and held every belt from every organizationthere was in that era . Definitely one of the greatest fighters of all time
He did not end alexio’s carrer. Alexio lost 1 fight in his whole career to Don the Dragon who was the absolute goat back then and it was close
@@frankmanzano5024 exactly..thanks as I was going to put both of the comments you put here.
@@frankmanzano5024 it is true. And this fight alexio is winner for me. But on other side- Alexio never come in k1 to fight with the best: hoost, aerts, hug, koman. He dont even fight Rick Roufus? But great fightet he was, in full contact rules maybe the best...
I was at that fight, Great use of the ring and working the legs, while being sick! great Job!
that leg kick rnd 2 on alexio hurt him pretty bad...these guys are strait warriors
Damn, alexio is only 25 here... dude always looked 40, and like he had chlamydia
There’s a whole lot of comments here from people that don’t understand the rules…
Very tight match with Dennis alexio. But I was know don Wilson will win that. He have record of championships most of tease with knock out. I'm huge don Wilson fan of Finland and my hobby also kickboxing even I am woman. Very good match was and only points was solved winner. ❤ don Wilson is best huge respect for hem🤗 don the dragon Wilson is real champion 🥇
haha i was 7 days old when this aired. and yes i am now just watching and getting to know don wilson
A kicks a kick, a Punch's a punch.
Probably this two are the best kick box fighters all time
Alexio was never the same after the Tong Po fight.
Too bad we don't see this style of kickboxing anymore. It's pretty much all Muay Thai and Dutch kickboxing now. Alexio kinda predicted the fall of American kickboxing himself when he fought Tong Po in Kickboxer. Muay Thai and Dutch kickboxing are cool too, but it's good to have variety and there are no more Don the Dragons, Superfoots, Joe Lewises or Benny the Jets with the flashy Karate/Kung Fu type kicks anymore.
Unfortunately
If you think about it though, both are top notch badass fighters. Don defeated Alexio, but Dennis definitely was NOT disgraced. The fight was close.
12 rounds of kickboxing is insanely exausting!
Absolutely brilliant fight!
Really liked watching the way Don Wilson moved, so natural and slick. Good effort from Alexio, but Wilson was the more experienced and technically effective fighter!
Wilson had a lot more fights than 'The Terminator' did at this time.. but Dennis Alexio lost 10lbs here, to fight Wilson in the Light Heavyweight Division.. but Alexio would go back up to Heavyweight and win 8 Championship Belts and end his career with a slightly better record Don 'The Dragon' Wilson 11x Champion: ( 72-5-2 with 48 KOs) Dennis 'The Menace' Alexio 8x Champion: (70-2 with 65 KOs/TKOs) plus, Alexio held the Light Heavyweight, Cruiserweight and Heavyweight belts and was, at one time, the Undisputed Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion of the World.. So overall I think Alexio was a better fighter..
@@stonehaven2289 Unlike Dennis, who didn't fight the Top Heavyweights of his day ie Peter Arts, Ernesto Hoost, Andy Hug, and MANY others who competed in the K-1, I fought all the Top Contenders in the Lightheavyweight division.
Wilson el mejor y creo que pocos combates perdidos. Wilson VS Beni Urquidez esa era la pelea
@@dragondonYou and Alexio both were great
Regardez le combat de don wilson contre cicatik, étonnant wilson deminstration de kit boxing en face d'un cicatik déchaîner avec sa puissance il casse les jambes de wilson quk ne peutplus marcher et pourtant ????
Beautifull fight....2 Legends......respect !
If you ignore the rules it was probably a draw. It's not a boxing match, so I don't resent scoring according to the rules. Dennis is incredible, but Don is the Dragon, and no one kicks and moves like him.
Their boxing is better than the guys now. They know how to throw short punches on the inside, uppers and hooks to the body.
Here is a fun fact or two about this fight: Don had the flu! He was sick as a dog but kept it quiet because he didn't want to miss out on this fight because it was televised. He usually runs 10 miles a day, but he told me he could hardly run a mile before the fight. It's hard enough to beat Alexio, but to do it when you are sick says a lot about Don. I was there to cover the fight for Official Karate Magazine. After the fight I followed Dennis up to his room for an interview. Howard Hansen, President of the WKA, had arranged for Dennis to learn leg kicking from Benny "The Jet" Urquidez before the fight, but Dennis turned it down. So, I asked Dennis why he had turned down. He looked me right in the eye and said "Because I didn't know anyone could hit that hard." While we talked, Dennis' trainer had him take off his pants, put a plastic sheet on the bed and had Dennis lie on it while he covered his legs with ice. Taking nothing away from the great Dennis Alexio, it tells you a lot about Don and just how good he really is. A week or two later I was covering another fight and people had heard about the Alexio fight. Some said Don wouldn't have won if not for leg kicks. I ran into Don at that fight and I asked him about that. He said, to be the champion you have to find a way to win. If I couldn't kick the legs I would have done something else, it's that simple. His answer made me think "I wonder if the people who though that, if they knew Don had the flu, if that would have changed their minds?"
Vinnie Pazienza also fought Roy Jones Jr. with the flu, no one knew.
@@kevinwalsh4652 He wasn't winning regardless.
08:39 to 08:50 looked like the Colosseum fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris
04-01-1984 i was born 😂 Love the Legend Dragon 💪💪
Don Wilson dominated the fight, even with the flu. He proposed a rematch but Alexio refused, saying he was going to invest in boxing carreer. But Alexio just changed the weightclass.
I thought alexios hands was the most effective thing in the fight
He didn't dominate at all. It was an extremely close fight.
Dominated, reason why rematches was proposed was cause Alexio was a kid,and many thought he won..
old school is the best
this same old scxhool was my introduction and apprenticeship back in 89.
Awesome fight
Gran pelea de dennis alexio llendo al frente era un empate. Pará cualquiera de los dos pero fallo unánime nunca un robo. Don wilson muy buena técnica pero siempre retrocedió.
The 2 best all timers in this great sport!
Interesting fight. 👍
I am such a fan of the first two Kickboxer and Bloodfist movies
This was a good fight... Wilson was a bit subdued, paced himself well. Considering the bout was postponed cause he had the flu, it is believable. Alexio was a bit raw but had his moments for his effort. It was a competitive fight; in that respect , it was close...there are times that Wilson appeared dominant and Alexio, in his relentlessness, would fire off an effective salvo... When one factors in the kick count, that's the rule of the sport and the score reflects that. When you look at the fight according to the sport, one-sided. When you look at the fight from a competitive standpoint, I d say the people got what they came to see. If there was a rematch, I would predict Wilson because his overall ability in this sport. He definitely won ( this is not boxing )
Two of the greatest kickboxers of all time. What an awesome match.. It was a very close fight. Thank you for sharing this fight.
They're not the greatest! You've forgot about Rob Kaman, Ramon Dekkers etc etc the Dutch brought the best kickboxers in history! Til this day! You better recognize!
@@kennethmanuputty9865 He said two of the greatest. Not THE GREATEST.
I like The Dragon, but I was never convinced he beat Alexio.
Where did they ever get that ring announcer? Dude, if you say the name of the fighter and the scoring of the round, you take away any suspense of who won after you give the 2nd set of scores. Had he never even seen anyone announcing a fight? Good, tough fight from both. Alexio missing kicks in 2 rounds made a big difference in the scoring and Wilson had a good game plan. Don went on to a fairly successful martial arts film career while Dennis moved up to heavyweight and pretty much laid waste to the division in later years.
веселые были времена...👍
Really great match.
Vitoria de Denis Alexio sempre andando pra frente e melhores golpes de punho encaixados
alexio is and always has been a braging punk and a thug !
Si un pelea bueno. Alexio esta el ganador real. No habla espagnol.
por eso fue un robo ,le robaron a alexio
Thats Amazing
12 rounds! grueling… would love to have seen Wilson vs Wallace
I So Love old school kickboxing it was the best back in the day and also we had the best kickboxers in the world they were so fun too Watch i really enjoyed there matches in my honest opinion old school kickboxing was the best ☺
Most people get koed by spinning back first instantly that's insane still standing after one
12 rounds and they are still kicking each one high!!
I remember watching Alexio on cable TV, finally came to our area, don't remember the name of the channel, but it was an hour of kick boxing matches
Much respect to both fighters!!! Alexio is awesome, but Don just does't run out of gas.....Great fight!!!!
Дон совсем не уставал
Wilson has very smooth footwork.A good boxer should always take a good puncher. A strong chin can help as well.
Wilson looks like his throwing at %50 & that double kick, Alexio surely be thinking "that toe tap shit" no affect.
This style of fighting is more exciting to watch than Thai boxing
両者とも最高の試合をやり遂げた👍 ポイントを取ったのはローキックであろう🏆️
having been introduced to these gentlemen via b ma movies it's weird seeing them fight second instead of knowing them as fighters first! some of the mysticism is gone but that's reality!
Dennis Alexio was on the movie kickboxer staring van damn
Karate pugilato, che mix! sport bellissimo...🥋🥊
عمق غريب في الأداء هي دي الناس اللي كنا بنتفرج عليها في التللفزيون
This has got to be one of the most unusual fights I've ever seen in either boxing or kickboxing. Both opponents go 12 rounds and hardly have any bruises on their heads. Not sure if the protective gear is the cause because I recall the match of Rick Rufus against a Thai boxer and Rick had to be carried out on a stretcher.
Great fighters both
I think Don destroyed Alexio left leg pretty bad... Also, I thought Don was only good with his TKD kicks, but he was good with punches as well, even though Alexio was very good with his punches.
Alexio is kicking wilsons ass why do they give Wilson such credit his punches and kicks are so sissy. He pulled the same shit against Theriault.
Damnn, the bloodfist guy vs Eric Sloane from Kickboxer
Alexio was in a wheelchair after this fight???
Dos leyendas
Twoo Legend💥✌️💪
Wow the fight was wayyyy closer than the judges scored it. That's a shame
Alexio missed his Minimum Kick Requirement in several rounds and they subtracted a Full Point for each "missed kick". That is the reason the "points" were lopsided in my favor. It was a much closer fight but I was happy for the outcome because I fought with the Flu and Alexio was over the 175lb weight limit for my Title so Howard Hansen "invented" the Super Lightheavyweight World Title and we fought on NBC Sportworld for that vacant World Title. I was about 173lbs and Alexio was about 180lbs at the Official Weighins in Miami, Florida.
@@dragondon I think it’s super cool that you engage with fans in this way, I had the same view that it seemed like strange judging but I knew nothing about the background you describe. Respect!
@@dragondon I have a massive respect for you Don, but if you fought a year later, you would have easily lost. Too bad rematch didn’t happen. Your understanding of changing positions and feeling the distance is something to marvel at. Rematch would have been great though. I could b wrong as well. Just my opinion. By the way, Qissi wants to fight with you now.
I think the weight bothered Alexio a bit. Great fight. Two amazing warriors.
Damn I Love Kickboxer and Martial Arts Movies In General I Never Knew Dennis Alexio Was a Real Kickboxer I Know a Bit About Don Wilson as In His Movies I See Chuck Norris Is One Of The Spectators My Favourite Martial Artist Of All Time.
What kickboxing should look like!
Alexio gave that lizard boy a run
This is better than assuming Bruce Lee invencibility.
Seen Don Wilson fight @ Brassies in Cocoa Beach Fla.
I didn't see him fight there but, I used to see him in there. He lived in Cocoa Beach.
the announcer really really wants alexio to win. what a shockingly bad bias.
I was hoping for Dennis in this one.
Great footage. Do you guys think Dennis Alexio would have smashed the Dragon after Alexio beefed up some years after this fight?
In my opinion, with less experience at the moment, Alexio fights better. But its no ko in a fight for the championship, the referees always go to the actual champion.
Really good leg kicks to the thighs and calves by Don Wilson. Those leg kicks, that's standard in Bangkok, Thailand. They kick to the thighs and calves (maybe to the knee's) that's their main target.
Good lord! The Dragons lower leg kicks are incredible.
Pelea amañada.
Awsome! 12 rounds is really too long :D
Brooks Mason, the trainer of Wilson, is one of the best kickboxing trainers in the business!

Who's here after the last Joe Rogan experience protect our parks? 😄
Damn both Alexio and Wilson had stamina for days to fight at this pace for 12 rounds! ‘Jake’ may have got the decision against Eric Sloan -but can he Move like Me? ;p
The Martial Arts Kid movie brought me here
I want Tong Po! Give me Tong Po!🥊
When I looked up Don's height, I was surprised. He moves like he's 6 inches shorter. He'd kick teeth out without a warning.
So much for kicking ass wherever he goes
