This is a visually stunning short is a story about a young and innocent flower that is taken under the leave of an older and wiser flower, but are her motives pure? Starring the voices of Woopie Goldberg and Christie Scott Cashman, it is an inspiring piece created Core.
"Descendants" is a 14 minute animated short about the wish of attaining the unattainable and about the fact that something good can evolve from something evil.
The two main characters are flowers (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg and Christy Scott Cashman) who grow on the edge of a clearing next to one another.
One is old and jaded by a mysterious history - the other one still young, vivid and curious. Destiny has brought these two together and it seems as if they would exist without possibility for change, until one day a visitor to the clearing brings something unexpected to their lives.

  • I just realized that the white flower can only appear in places where things have died. She rose from the dead of the red flower's family, and now others of her rose amongst the dead deer's remains.

  • The red flower looked like an asshole Because she was full of hatred and bad violent and cruel words. But in the end she saved the white flower, killed the enemy AND helped her friend to reach her dream : Become something bigger. It's a beautiful movie. Very strong impact. The naive one struggled but lived a better life in the end. The one who was obsessed with revenge ended frustatred and.. dead. The two flowers were brave. Amazing. Also they were beautiful, amazing faces and personality. The realism was crazy. The person who realised this is very talented.

But I could be wrong and maybe she did sacrifice herself to save the whited flower. The red flower was toxic and maybe she knew she had to get strong to produce her poisons to kill the alien bambi..

    • Red Flower was driven by hatred. Like the animal killed her family on purpose (not). But hatred blinded her to everything else so she manipulated White Flower to kill the beast. Nothing selfless about it at all. After all, when the beast fell, it killed the original White Flower. Red Flower thought of no one else but her own vendetta. It was poetic irony that the insects that diminished Red Flower's toxicity also spread White Flower's seed to reproduce in the carcass of the beast Red Flower murdered.

    • No it did not, it was reborn as most plants in nature do. When a tree dies it leaves a sapling etc. The Red flower being older, wiser and knowing more about the world understood that if it sacrificed itself and at the same time got revenge on the beast, it would create a new, bigger family for the white one and most importantly teach the youngling a valuable lesson. Because now the white flower is happy and has no need to explore the dangerous world as it did get its wish and became part of something greater. Especially since the beast and her became a part of each other in the end. The red flower was very wise indeed. I think people misunderstood the kindness of this due to the adult theme. At least that's how I interpreted it.

  • It's interesting how people interpret the movie a little differently from others. Though most of the comments think Red is vengeful, I saw it as angry and protective over white. But also accepts that the deer makes White happy so Red 'gave' White the deer. Albeit with a cost. I find Red kind despite the harsh appearance and words. It's just angry about what happened to it's family, but I think the intention to kill the deer came to be with White's happiness in mind. Regardless if I see it as intended by the creator, this piece is just beautiful.

The lessons I've learned here are: Don't trust anyone, nature is unforgiving and cruel, and if you unintentionally and unknowingly hurt someone, eventually they will poison you to death and you will never know why you died. Then flowers will grow out of your slowly decomposing corpse. Have a nice day!

A tragic existence that tormented her each day, until the prospect of being a part of something more, gave her hope. She sacrificed her health in pursuit of that goal, only to have it snatched away from her at the last moment. Though, as she lay there slowly dying, so close to that "Something more" she desired so badly, it was enough for her. That even though her dreams were torn from her, she found comfort. A bittersweet ending.

  • I don't see how the red flower was the hero. To me, the red flower was just trying to avenge its family . You cannot tell me that the red flower planned on getting eating and knew that the deer would fall on the top of the white flower and the bug that was eating the white flower would go on the deer. The deer would deposition and thus growing more white flowers.
