  • Yum yum. I’d forgotten how good this tastes. The trick to great French toast is to have the bread soak up the milk/egg mixture and as you cook it SLOWLY, it becomes custard-like in the center. What an interesting idea with the crusts. That look great too!

And you have to remember women and mens calorie intake is totally different and plus if your job is physical probably won't last all day but if a desk job I would think a breakfast like that would be plenty for 8 hours lol. Stil delicious!

  • This has been around for centuries. We used to make French toast in the fifties. I would never cut off the crusts though. Crusts give the soft bread stability so as to not fall apart.

    • Yeah, we know its French toast and many places have there own version of it. Still I appreciate a new take on it. She cut the crusts off simply to make another dish and to show that you can make something easy and delicious without wasting food. I think its important to show that you can use the bits you dont like, as I know many folks who cut off the crusts when making sandwiches and French toast and just throw the crusts away.

      @emberyoung218@emberyoung21810 ай бұрын
    • Yes, Our mum left the crusts on, as it made the soaked soft bread more stable. It was a way of using up leftover stale bread. I remember eating this delicious recipe a few years after world war 2 ended.

  • Here in America, we call this sugar/cinnamon mix "French Toast" and we use Texas Toast which is just extra thick sliced white bread. It's how my Mom always makes it, and my husbands Mother did it as well and she is Egyptian. The only difference between the two, is my family always added butter and syrup, and my husband just wants a little butter, and cinnamon sugar on his.

    • Came here to say this! Texas toast is awesome. But day old french bread works too, and brioche is AMAZING. Syrup is the classic American way, but I'm a huge fan of butter with honey drizzled over fresh fruit like berries and/or stone fruits.

  • Each recipe was a new twist and inspiring spawning other ideas ... will post this on Pinterest so I can find it later. Was wondering however... with regard to using two pieces of bread in the first recipe whereby you soak it before frying. How does the middle turn out? Is it cooked all of the way through to a custard? If not how long does it need to cook for it to be finished inside? Just curious... as I want to try that one first... appreciate your taking the time to created this video for us.
