The Secret Life of Fox - Wildlife Wars (Nat Geo)

The fox is a scavenger carnivours dog generally found in urban city areas in the northern Hemisphere. The fox is a nocturnal mammal meaning that the fox only goes out a night to hunt for prey.
Wild foxes tend live for around 6-7 years but some foxes have been known to be older than 13 in captivity. The wild fox hunts for the mouse and other small mammals and birds but foxes appear to enjoy all species of insect.
A fox is generally smaller than other members of the dog family like wolves jackals and domestic dogs. Foxes can be a pest in the cities as foxes are often seen tearing into rubbish.

  • I had a family of foxes living in my garden, they made a lot of noise during the night but they where absolutely beautiful, and they’ve kept the mice away which was a plus, I used to feed them regularly

  • I've never seen such a sad nature documentary - especially the story in newfoundland and how it ends - that struck such a deep chord with me, no doubt. Not just superficial sad by say, seeing an animal dying etc, but feeling a real connection with them; the boy now alone, leaving home, and his family, forever in the end. Plus newfoundland is just gorgeous! I'm from Maine, it's similar but things aren't so windswept where I am. Loved it so much, I watched it when it aired, & was still thinking about it so much that after months I had to find it on here and enjoy it again. Didn't know how awesome Foxes really were 😄🤘

    • Good for you. I leave food for the foxes that visit my garden and right now I'm feeding a mother fox that is nursing two week old cubs. And yes, it makes so much difference to their health and appearance if they are getting enough food. If not for people feeding them, most of our UK foxes would struggle, especially the urban ones.

  • These documentary films should be included into curriculums at schools. Everyone should know about the beauty of our planet nature and wildlife. Most of human population nowadays live their lives in urban environments, and unlike lot of wildlife, as also depicted here (Foxes, Coyotes, hare, rabbits etc) who do seem to find connection in these environments, humans have rather lost their connection with wildlife. Upcoming generations should grow up with great respect towards nature, films depicting these beauties can create that understanding and respect. And then perhaps we once again start seeing ourselves again as part of the bigger picture, rather then believing we are superior entities sharing the same planet with 'nature'.

  • I'll always remember the day I pulled up to my dad's house around to his pull barn and saw a red fox with a collar on, with a dog yard chain....I was like 'OMG, WHY DO YOU HAVE FOX WITH A DOG COLLAR & CHAIN ON IT?' My dad replied 'well why not, they're so beautiful & fun to play with' I was like 'but it's a fox, a wild fox, you can't just chain it up like a dog & pretend it's domesticated. He looks like a young adult. It's used to being free in the woods, finding its own food & finding a mate to have pups with' so I got him to let it go, lol yes it was soooo beautiful & I had never seen one so close, so I understand why he wanted to keep it BUT, it's not fair to it, to keep it like a pet. And suppose it had to defend itself at night, it wouldn't have much of a choice being chained up like a dog. My father has alot of land with alot of animals that could be a threat to a fox, like coyotes & ect. I would've been happy just knowing such a shy & quiet animal like a fox, choose my land to live on! 🦊

  • Hey guys, i observed a fox sleeping way up in a tree at approximately 7 Meters height. I took pictures of it. It happened a couple of times now at different trees, its within a bigger city in a park. I thought that this is maybe an adaption in behaviour due to human interaction...if you are interested id be happy to share the pictures, i even took videos of it.

    • in my garden I have 4 hens and foxes are the no1 predator concerning chickens 🐓🐓🐓🐓+ livestock, they are not allowed in my hen house garden! + cats are known to fight with a fox in the countryside and the cat wins as cat reactions are quicker than fox reactions = swipe to the foxes nose Is how the cat wins.

  • Newfoundland is so incredibly beautiful. A place where you can hear the whales, foxes, eagles, and other mammals at the same time is truly amazing. It's horrible that man still allows these incredible animals to be bred in captivity and slaughtered for a totally unnecessary fur garment industry. The videos produced by Save A FOX, an animal rescue in Minnesota, are a special opportunity to see the behavior of various species of captive bred foxes who have been rescued from the fur trade. The conditions are a stark difference from the brutality of life at fur farms. Why it's still legal to abuse and kill these fascinating and docile animals is insane. Greed should not be a justification for the inhumane treatment of any animal.
