An interesting documentary on the ezo red fox which is a subspecies of red fox widely distributed in Hokkaido, Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and the surrounding islands of Japan. They mainly eat rats, mountain hares, birds and insects. They also eat fruit and nuts in autumn. In tourist spots and in some urban areas there are individuals who feed on the street. They have also been observed feeding on the placenta of cattle in pastures or at disposal facilities.
They dig holes or tunnels to make their lairs. The females give birth to kits in the early spring, which are grown and independent by late autumn. Males act independently and do not contribute to the raising of offspring.
It broke my heart seeing the mom dead and her son/daughter was trying to "revive" her :(
If I'm not mistaken, crows can form mutually beneficial relationships with foxes. The crow will help alert the fox to danger, and in exchange the fox leaves some food for the bird. also 23:08 was adorable, with the head tilt :]
Just wanted to say this is the documentary the helped me confirm my fox theriotype so thank you :3

Hi. Im a Fox Expert, specialised on Redfoxes. this is a great documentation, but maybe the Hokkaido-Redfoxes are solitary Animals, but the european Redfox is not solitary. they are mostly monogamous family animals. and when european Redfoxes found thier partner then they stay for many Years btw for lifetime together. so not all Redfoxes are solitary. EDIT on 02.04.2024: I found youtube videos from Japan Redfoxes they are together as family. Exactly like the european Foxes.
A fox expert? 😂😂😂👏👏👏 You answered your calling Christoph! Thanks for augmenting this documentary with your expertise in foxes. 🦊
