Maybe the most incredible video out there. Reminds me of when I once saw a tree just fall over. No wind, no saw cuts, , just fell over.
I live about 100yds from the edge of the forest. One day I was sitting on the front porch, and heard this really loud cracking sound, looked up just in time to see a huge pine tree come crashing down. Same as you no wind, it just cracked in half and fell over.
don't say that i I have to walk by a forty foot dead tree every morning it caught fire three years and now it keeps shedding large limbs like that elk.
There is a reason that you often find shed horns so close together. Imagine just how unbalanced you would feel if you had 20 pounds of bone on either side of your head and then one side suddenly fell off. I bet you would do just about anything to knock off the other side too.
I agree. Elk antlers are generally found close together for that reason, but not always.

That tap on the ground did it. It's amazing how the body seperates and allows this massive bony growth the fall away.
I read that its because of the lower testosterone in their bodies causes the calcium that binds the antler to the head to become brittle and break away.
Judging from cattle farmers I know and the yellow earring its rocking there's hardly a tree around to help knock them off. I wonder how it was able to rub its felt off, must have been on the fences. The elk farmer I know puts caging around the feeding areas to help knock them off.
