  • This was incredibly sad. She spent all those countless years searching for Scales. She never considered that the Dragon that took Scales was it's mother in the first place. And out of self-defense, and a fit of rage, she slain her beloved friend who didn't recognize her at first until it got her scent. Scales' mother obviously lost her baby in the beginning and wanted her child back, which is why it seemed that she kidnapped it in the first place. The girl/woman didn't understand this fact and unfortunately wasted the best years of her life.

    • Also because there was that part where the larger dragon "attacked" Scales...toyed with the possibility that the larger was a male but even as a survivalist action, it wouldn't make sense capturing such a young dragon if the male still had to care and wait for the female to hit maturity... So mother it was, and rather violent too 😂 .. however events were all logical and not the dreamy wishful thinking type..the harshness of life

  • For everyone watching this and feeling awful, it might help to know that the ending is pretty clearly supposed to be optimistic. Yes, Sintel killed Scales and is left to stagger in shock from the cave-in, but the same flowers that moments ago seemed to be mirroring her grief state start to bloom as the baby dragon is revealed to not only be alive, but scampering after her. Even if she never forgives herself for what she did to Scales, the same determination that blinded her even to the passage of time isn't going to let her abandon her responsibility to the baby dragon. So cheer up, mates. This story didn't end as a tragedy. It's just become a quest for redemption.

  • I like this,....both sad yet bittersweet. It reminds a person that all the things we held precious in our youth must get older and if we don't see those things for what they are, or were,....we might never get them back,....especially when it's too late. It took me a while to notice that as Sintel looked into the reflection of blood that she forgot that she, much like Scales, got older. In any case, a truly beautiful story worth watching (and telling) again and again.

Scales didn't remember who she was until she got very close and if that had not been scales she would have been dead without the spear. The long trek there taught her to take advantage of the best moment to attack which means you don't look very hard at the opposition just at the opportunity so she didn't realise until it was to late that the dragon was scales. What I don't understand is how she didn't know it had been so many years. One or two years lost maybe but that was more like 10 or 15 years.

    • +Viktor J whats wrong with being amateur? Or are you going to deny that Blender is free and used primarily by people for whom 3d is just a hobby?

      @DarthBiomech@DarthBiomech8 жыл бұрын
    • We have just different opinions. You are right- Blender is used mostly by hobbyist. However in my opinion Blender in last few years became more than just an amateur program. It contains everything from 3d modeling, through sculpting, VSE to 3d camera tracking. I need to admit that it is lacks few high end features, but nothing game changing. Therefore Blender should be considered as a full professional 3d production pipeline

      @viktorjamrich@viktorjamrich8 жыл бұрын
    • +Viktor J IMO something should be named "professional" only when it's being used by... well, professionals. Besides those blender foundation movies, I have no examples of Blender being used anywhere in professional digital areas or pipelines. And so the attitude remains same - if you wanna 3d for fun, use Blender, if you wanna make money with 3d, you will need to learn 3ds Max, or Maya, or Cinema 4d in any case, even if you already know Blender. Because VFX studios do not use Blender.

      @DarthBiomech@DarthBiomech8 жыл бұрын
    • +Viktor J Well the fact it contains everything doesn't make it professional tool. For professionals time is money, and Blender's toolset is still lacking many important features. This makes working with this software very time-consuming, because you need to make many workarounds to make what professional software can. And fiddling with software takes time, thus costs money. Blender is app for hobbyists and amateurs, not professionals. I work in this industry and compared to (for example) Houdini, Blender is a kids toy.

  • Reading some the comments, I have seen how this short film has devastated a fair number of you. I myself found the inadvertent death of scales to be devastating, causing me to shed a good number of tears. Tragedies like this can leave one buried deep in guilt and anguish for the longest of times as they dwell upon the past and what may be if things had gone differently. However, we all must learn to face reality, pick up the pieces, and move on. Scales is dead and nothing we say or do will ever change that. There are ultimately two options: The first is to reflect upon this tragedy again and again and bemoan what has happened, and the second is to press on with our lives and learn from the mistakes we have made. The protagonist of this story lives on, and so does Scale's offspring. Looking after this new infant dragon may not be enough for her to atone for what she had done, I feel it is at least a start. I may not be the best at explaining this, but I just felt like sharing my opinion. With that I will end by saying that no one is truly gone, as long as they are in our hearts.

  • God I remember seeing this when it first came out, utterly devastated me emotionally. Seeing this now and already knowing how it was gonna end, this could have made a REALLY good movie if we actually followed that red-headed girl's journey to find the dragon. The twist that we see with the protagonist being older than we thought (and herself in context) would have made a much bigger impact on the entire audience.

  • Old or not, This short film kind of reminds me of cutscenes from a novie gaming company. I mean that as a compliment - It's done really well - it's short comings come off as just a lack of funding for the big stuff. I would expect to see this from games with lesser known dev's - but really well done and put together.
