Nicely explained. It's given me the confidence to have a go at the shower and sink. Thanks.
I am a DIYer and I am terrible at calking. Both of videos are very informative. Thanks from across the pond, old man!
I purchased the smoothing tools as demonstrated, followed the video guide - perfect! The easiest and best results I've ever had when trying to silicone at home, thank you!
Thank you so much, I am a female trying to do new things on my own. This was the best how to video I have ever seen. Thanks for the best lesson from Chicago Illinois. xx
Made husband watch this after he’d completed a not so good job. Good clear instructions for us struggling amateurs who want to get it right.
At least he watched it. I cannnot have any almost 30 year old son do that let alone do an easy job. His dad used to do odd jobs even though he wasn't a tradesman. Like a lot of men he just figured things out.
This was massive help for me as I had no idea where to start. Very happy with the results. Thanks for the post mate 👍
Love the baking analogy !
Great video, thanks.
Have tried many different methods over the years and this is the one that has given me the best results. Most important thing of all is to have plenty if tissue to-hand, as a non-pro you will either put too much or too little on. The spray helps to keep the silicone workable for a bit longer as well, which you’ll need as an amateur. If your walls are out-of-true, don’t use the tile-shaped tools as they won’t run-up the ealls correctly; bitter experience has taught me this! In those circumstances, your finger would be better, or the type of tool this chap is using. Good luck!
Thank for the video. Please make some more. They are great.
What a brilliant video! I’ve just done my shower tray and toilet and it looks professional! Thank you 😊
Great tutorial! Thank you so much for teaching us!
Excellent job ! I've made some adjustments to my techniques and saved time and half of the mess.
Very helpful. Thank you for the tutorial!
Once again, well done Mate!
Brilliant tips mate, keep up the good work 👍
Excellent video! just what I needed!
I have founf your tutorial most professional and helpful. Don't take to heart small criticism; applying sealants is an art, and there will always be unimportant criticism. There are some very, very capable out there. I could never learn from them. They are not teachers. They are artists. Subscriber.
yes, the haters are jealous!!! Hahahaha!!!
Well done....much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for sharing the video.
very well done and informative- thank you
Great video. Thanks for the information
Interesting informative well presented video Gonz! You definitely should be presenting on the tele!
Method and tools worked very well. Solid video this.
Thanks, lol yeah it’s funny how you end up watching this after getting your silicons work all messy.... but looking forward to using these techniques next time. Nice work, you’ve made it look easy!
Excellent tutorial, cheers
What an amazing accent, i can listen this guy tutorials all day long!💕 Love British lads!
Ha ha ..... thank you. 👍
@@bathroomplumbingandfitting7089 Many thanks for this very helpful tutorial. Can you make a video how to replace a bathroom sink? Thank you
Yes, I am from Germany and prefer watching this over German tutorials - just because of his accent! Of course, this material is very well explained. Very helpful!
This is such a useful video, I’m sealing my shower tomorrow, thank you
this tutorial is even better thanks
Great video and a big help!
Nice video and explanation thank you.
Thanks for the video. Wish Screwfix was here in the U.S. The major hardware stores here have similar products but I haven't found the exact set you have. Thanks for posting.
Washing Up Liquid = Dish Soap for us Yanks. Thanks for a great video. I've purchased all the tools and am ready to do a great job. One of the best videos out there on the topic.
I think you yanks use dentured alcohol instead of soapy water
Great video...I will try this method.
Thank you. Im about to start learning about this
fabulous video. great ideas.
Great video mate 👍🏻
great tutorial, thank you
Excellent video. Thank you!
You're welcome
Awesome video!! Thank you
Brilliant, always put this off. But worked really well
Excellent video, well put together, shall be applying this method from now on.many thanks
Cheers Stephen, hope it went well
The best video in youtube, thanks.
You're welcome. Hope it helped
Best video I have watched on how to caulk and i have watched a lot of them!
Thanks Reem
agreed!
Excellent couple of videos. I bought and used the Cramer profiling kit (No 7) and found it produced very good joints. I didn't use the washing up / water solution spray to finish but will in future. However, one question - how do you achieve a silicone joint with whole (uncut) Metro tiles sitting on top of a worktop, i.e. the bevel edge sits with a 3mm gap on the worktop? In this case it's not a 90 degree angle.
good video ..... but what do you do about a corner where some of the silicone or grout has been removed from the corner tile wall ...
Excellent
Well that was fun! Now I am a new member! Enjoyed that immensely, thank you!
Thanks for a great video Already better than how I have ever done it. What edge are you using when tidying it up? Flat or the tapered? Also how do I clear up the excess water which is on the good seal? Many thanks
Thank you! My daughter applied silicone awhile back and it is awful! There’s dry residue and mold everywhere in it, too! The sink leaks around the edges. I have to remove it all and redo three sinks, two bathtubs and around the bottoms of two toilets. Your method will be very helpful. My daughter used a compressor but she didn’t cut the silicone tube tip larger or at an angle. She didn’t use the tool the way you did, on one plane, then the other. She didn’t use the water spray. I can’t fault my daughter because she tried to help but failed with no experience or instruction. I’m sure l or we will do better on this very soon. It will be a relief to get the project off the to-do list and off my mind! 🚽🚰🛁
Great video thanks
This tutorial is great, could you make a video on how you would apply silicone to a flat surface like a kitchen sink?
What is it in the bottle ? All you said was it is what is needed but never said what is it . This is the difference between good explanation and great explanation
A good instructional video but what about the really awkward parts such as the corners and behind the taps?!!
Great video for beginners. Good effort 👌
Great video, my shower is looking nice again!
That's good, that's what the video is there for. Thanks for watching.
I have been using CT1 I'm a novice at this but I sealed my exterior of my caravan and it works very well no more leaks. Any views on CT1? Great vid mate
Very well explained
Thanks Bill
Mate you r the best
Cheers Jim
This is one job I used to absolutely detest as I could never get it to look any good and ended up with silicone everywhere. The method I used previous to this was making tape but that just made it take long and, in most cases, I'd either leave the making take on too long which resulted in a lot of the silicone pulling off or there would be a kind of lip /ridge where the silicone had met the tape. I bought the same tool as you use in the video and this worked fantastically - I've just sealed the whole of a new shower enclosure and I'm very happy with the job. One thing I would be interested to know is if you have any tips for doing corners as this was the only fiddly bit I encountered this time. Great video.
Would be interested to know if you have tips on using these products on a backsplash where the faucet can get in the way? Thanks for remaking the video!
I like his talking. British dialect always sounds more authoritative than those in the US, and especially so compared to our accent here in the MIdwest. Listening to it helps me learn how to talk good ;-)
Thank you John
I needed to replace the silicone in my walk in/wet room shower , previously I used the masking tape technique with variable and messy results. This time I followed your method and have had really good results . I have difficulty with the internal 90degree corners, they end up untidy, so next time maybe you could include how to do them your video Keep up the good work.
Maybe do one side first and lead on from the line after it's dried?
Nice video how do you get a neat finish when silicone between bath and tiles ?thanks
Great video well explained, when sealing around sanitary wear in tiled bathrooms, how do you stop the silicone tool from going into the joints in the tile and then leaving a indent in the silicone bead🤔 thanks
Good question and that's where you need a slightly more expensive professional kit which has and attachment that stops the spatula falling into the indentation. Google 'Cramer Fugi Kit' and you'll find the tool. Good luck Peter
Just wanted to say thanks for this video (and the on-the-job one) and for the tool recommendation. I needed to do apply a bunch of sealant around the house today, and usually it'd end up look vaguely okay-ish. But with your suggestion I was off to screwfix to get the tool, used as you demonstrated, and the work was much neater than I would normally have produced - even the wife thought it was a pretty good job! ;-)
man use paddle pop stick
Very good & professional video . . . Thank you
Thank you Roberto.
Thank you 😊 I was advised to use a hairdryer to remove the old. Also a hairdryer to remove the two sided sticky tape for the cellophane draught excluder which goes over windows. The sticky tape is difficult to remove from the UPVC window surround and I cannot afford to renew now, so I have to use that stuff in winter.
Well done Geo, COYI⚒
Very precise, thanks. I also heard you can use window cleaner without ammonia...
Very true Luis
Can you do a video of how to hang a bathroom mirror with mirror adhesive and without drilling any holes in tiles etc?
Should I get the silicone tool for concave or straight? They have both at Screwfix. Which did you use? Thanks. This has really helped me.
Awesome video. I use denatured alcohol in a spray bottle :)
Superb. Wish I had known this years ago.
Me too Brian
that is a thing of beauty ! 🤙
Thanks mate
Cheers Peter, you're welcome
Good video geeza
Nice video. I find cleaning the area with a degreasant eg white spirit ensures the silicon never lifts. How about some advice on sealing up a half used tube and reusing one with a gunked up nozzle?
This video is great, do you have one showing how to do inside corners?
Thanks for the video. Do you have any tips on getting behind a hob/sink/taps where you can't get the tool in?
Thanks for watching. Either take the taps off or what I have done is cut one of the silicone tools that I had spare so as it's thin enough to fit behind the taps.
You can buy extra long nozzles to get into tight spaces.......👍
Good vid, how do you deal with the grout gaps though when running the rubber tool along the edge, try to keep level as if they are not there?
I'm used to doing it Stuart but there is a tool available that has a grout guard www.plumbworld.co.uk/fugi-applicator-kit-5-piece-1847-16740?GoogleBase&GB&GoogleBase&gclid=CjwKCAiA-9rTBRBNEiwAt0Znw-_pJwoHaQ82gM3Rg-iqfMZdbfDVZaqtFTWwd8QQKy7qn0ndHGQ-eBoCqUEQAvD_BwE
Hi, could you tell me if the no nonsense smoothing tools is the set for straight joints or concave joints that you have used as I don't know which one to buy. Thank you
Thanks Chris Packham!
Serious question: can you install a complete new bathroom for me, I am in Hertfordshire?
Perfect - clean - quick - but for my situation, I'm using tiles 10cm tiles which will prevent a smooth drag across the surface due to the grout lines. Will this method still work? Or should I just go for it and let you know how it went? Thanks
Very good job my friend, I live in México where can I get that tools or molding for caulking.. Thanks friend.
nice one cheers
jus pickin *
Just confused which ones to buy. Straight edge or concave edge set. I'm sealing between the floor (lino) and bath. Also the perimeter of the bathroom (lino to tiled wall). Also will be using these to seal a basin to a tiled wall
Best 15.02 minutes I've ever spent in my DIY life!!!
Very kind of you to say so.
I do this almost everyday you have not got it rite you have it handy man rite . A real professional tradesman does not give up his secrets hence this video. If I made this video it would be correct and completed and fully explained in 1:30 seconds . A tradesman does not give up his secrets for youtube sell out .
I know there are negative comments - but good video ... esp tips on using tools forwards & reversed. On tiles (grout breaks or textured surface - I would use masking tape - but nothing against using these tools with tape. Well done mate.
Great video, and some great tips. One question though; if you had cut the applicator tip to a smaller diameter would you not have less material to scrape off? I'm curious, what say you?
Yes but it's always wise to put more on and take it off. If you put too little on it's hard to add to it and get a good finish and thus prevent leaks
That would be to easy and the viewers would not know how easy it is to dispose of the excess or to use that caulk juice!]
It works on our video when having perfectly smooth and straight surface. In real work, there are grout gaps in between tiles, corners and uneven surfaces.
That is covered in the other videos where I do it on site Lukasz
In process of renovating bathroom and always struggle with this part . I'm off to screwfix now as have always used my finger b4.
Does this tool work on acrylic sealants?
All very well on a nice straight board. It is a bit harder when you have to go into corners and around taps or pipes.
Hi Great video many thanks. What do you think is the best way to bed a shower tray down onto a wooden floor. Had conflicting advice everything from sand and cement to gripfill
If you use cement then make sure that you uses a plasticiser otherwise it won't stick. The best thing to use is BAL Single Part Fast Flex Grey Adhesive 12.5kg It's not cheap but it's better than anything else on the market. Please be aware that cement will not stick to the underside of the new lightweight trays
Learn how to fix a . . . . . . Thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ve been a painter and decorator for many years never seen anybody do a shower tray the same way twice. Just looked up your recommendation on Amazon seems to be around £22 if I’ve got the right product although little more research later, again many thanks for the reply... keep up the good work
A very useful video thank you. You asked for suggestions for future vides. How about - fitting a wall hung toilet - the steel frame Gebrit type malarkey.😀
Norman Boyes annoyingly I have just finished one as you'll see from my most recent video although I didn't film the installation.
Learn how to fix a . . . . . . Film the next one👍
siliconetastic mastic video - fantastic
Poptastic Clarky
Awesome! Great job! For us non UK residents when you say washing up liquid what exactly do you mean? Dish soap, shower soap or just any kind of liquid soap? Also, does the soap and water effect the dry time any? How much soap to how much water? Thank you very much!
Just 1 tablespoon of Dawn dish detergent to your average spray bottle-full of lukewarm water.
