Trying to BREAK Through the WALL! Can We Do It? CHATEAU Renovation - Journey to the Château, Ep. 188

In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart begin the renovation of the second gîte (holiday cottage) in one of their chateau longère (long house buildings). They work with friend Tony to expand the gite by breaking through a wall to connect it to a previously unusable room. Unfortunately, putting a doorway through an old stone wall proves to be a challenge.

Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

  • Hearing the Wagner music behind Patrick made me think about Bug’s Bunny sneaking around the woods singing 🎶 “…. Hunting for wabbits, hunting for wabbits …” 😂 I wonder how many others watching this channel thought the same thing?

    • All I could think of was my eldest son (unfortunately he died) who restored a mark 1 VW Golf in the same blue as Patrick’s beast! He wanted to enter it in a concours d’elegance with the ride of the Valkeries blasting out of the loud speaker and his 2 brothers walking alongside wearing Viking helmets and brandishing swords!! But then he was always a bit nuts 😂😂🤣

  • Good afternoon Patrick & Stuart, what history in that wall, and Tony made the "break through"!! Tony looked so relieved and happy, in comparison with the other solid granite stone wall. This is a friend who is always willing and able, and yes, the stone floor will look stunning. It was a very clever idea to bring the loader around to get rid of the mess. That was a back saving idea. So, there is a new challenge coming up, it will be most interesting to see the development of things to come. Today is Thursday, before Easter Friday (sounds silly) I went hunting for nice chocolate treats, there is just the three of us now in the house, not having anybody over, but the stock was shocking, not nice. There is a place I forgot about which I could go and visit on Saturday morning, I will see how things go. I do hope you will have a most enjoyable Easter weekend, just chill out, I asked for no work to be performed on Friday and Sunday. I spoke to my hairdresser and she was so in-line with my thinking, it is a Christian's biggest two days of salvation, so let us respect it, non-believers are changing so many traditional things, no hot cross buns, yet they cannot spite us as that is not where we place our values. Must go, I have some responsibilities to fulfil before before sun setting. Do take care, au revoir. much love, Elize
