O'Sullivan and McManus give their thoughts on the incident between White and the referee | Eurosport
Ronnie O’Sullivan thinks referee Ben Williams’ conduct following a spat with Jimmy White was “uncalled for”. White was unhappy after Williams nominated the wrong ball during his match with Brecel. The referee chuckled at his own error to the frustration of White, who gesticulated towards the referee and asked him what was funny. He was then given a warning. White would go on to lose 4-0.

The ref should have just said "alright alright keep your hair on"
😮😂
😂
Thought that thing was gonna leap off of his head and do the cunt
😂
Yeah or "Don't get uppity with me Whirlpool, just because you're losing!"
Let’s look at the facts rather than assuming the referee is the bad person. -Jimmy nominated the brown - The ref misheard Jimmy and said Blue ball - jimmy gets angry and calls the ref a ‘Dinlo’ - Referee laughs thinking that Jimmy is joking - Jimmy continues to act in a rude and over the top manor so receives a warning. Conclusion - Jimmy was 3-0 down and having a bad day. He took his irritation out on the referee.
Disagree. That ref is the giggliest ref on the circuit and it's enough to put any player off their game. No other ref would have giggled the way he did, all except him take their job seriously. Any snooker player will acknowledge that a good referee should be hardly noticeable. He should be there to do refereeing, that's all.
@@wynlewis5357 Players should not be calling referees ‘Dinlos’. That’s all.
@@Correction294 I agree that they shouldn't, but has he ever said it to any other ref in his long career or is it just this giggling ref ?
@@wynlewis5357 I don't agree really. I think the ref didn't know what a Dimlo is and laughed to take the heat out of the situation. At the end of the day Jimmy (who I love) shouldn't have even bothered nominating a ball or call the ref something derogatory. Whether it was index or middle finger. It's obvious it was intended to be an offensive gesture. Come on Jimmy keep it together
@@wynlewis5357 I quite enjoy seeing a bit humour in snooker like the good ole days it's not like it's happening on each shot. Whitey was bang out of order and should retire, he's not good to watch anymore and denying opportunites to other players.
Pathetic from Jimmy to be honest. Lighten up man.
Not surprised that Ronnie is defending Jimmy. He's often rude to the refs as well.
Shock horror Ronnie agrees with his pal
Are you expecting Ronnie to never agree with him?
What everyone is clearly missing is the fact that Jimmy turned round and called the ref a "Dinlo" after the ref corrected himself. Dinlo means a stupid or foolish person. THAT'S the real reason the ref started laughing, he thought Jimmy was joking.
Its actually dimlo 🤣
Thanks for clearing that up. I couldnt make out what Jimmy said..
@@wgcHERTS Yeah I've seen both said. Dinlo seems to mean foolish and Dimlo means thick, so he definitely called the ref thick lol
@@nathandrake5271 🤣🤣🤣got to love jimmy though
Honestly thought Jimmy was joking there as well
Jimmy started it, he should have accepted the apology.
I've listened to this loads of times and I think Jimmy said "Blue". As has been mentioned, Ben only laughed after Jimmy said "Dimlo" as he thought he was joking. To be fair, Ben could have warned him over that comment. I think Jimmy overreacted as he was losing and not playing well.
I think if Jimmy had of called him Idiot instead, a word everyone knows, then he would have warned him.

Good job from the ref for not backing down .

Ronnie O sullivan is incorrect. He did do something with his hand. Jimmy swore at the referee. The referee was correct to issue a warning.
The irony is, if Jimmy would have laughed about the silliness of the mistake he would’ve lightened up and loosened up a bit and played a much better game. The ref handed him an opportunity to cut free of his inner ties. He just didn’t recognize it as such.
Would u go way! 🥴
Jimmy was 3-0 down at the time.
hardly likely to laugh when he's 3-0 down in a first to 4
That's a great insight

Jimmy was treating the ref badly, sorry but he behaved badly end of, The ref didn't mean any offence. As for the ref calling players sir, they are just effing snooker players not royalty. It is ref and player doing the bloody jobs and respect is earned not an entitlement!
White is an absolute helmut these days he thinks he can mix it with this current crop of players and clearly he can’t time he stuck to the seniors tourq
He wouldn't be able to mix it with the top 40.
How satisfied was the ref when he missed that brown and got spanked 4-0. 🤣🤣🤣
Probably not very. Bet he felt embarassed and the reason why he missed it.
I don't think he was satisfied. They're all professionals. He just went on. What can you do? The person who wasn't professional here was Jimmy White. I get it, he was pissed off. No need to take it out on the referee though.

It's cause it's Ronnie that made the refs become shit. Ronnie always disrespects them..
Of the referee had been Michaela Tabb and the same situation occurred neither Jimmy nor Ronnie not even Alan would would ever have criticised her. Just shows them up to be the hypocrites they actually are.
I dont think Michaela would have laughed like that at the first place.
@@dustinl2405 you're not correct. MT made plenty mistakes but always laughed them off. The ref wasn't laughing at Jimmy he was laughing to cover his own embarrassment.
The fact is that he wouldn't have done it if he was winning 3-0. He was just sulking because he was losing. We've all done it, I hope I've grown out of it, I certainly wasn't a good loser when I was younger, so I understand, but the reality is that he was simply being a bad loser because he can't cut it any more (he's doing well at his age to even qualify).
Agree with what you say but he doesn't even have to qualify as he keeps on getting a wild card on the Pro tour which is wrong in my opinion. He just just retire now and give a younger player a chance
@@truthseeker6923 Well, yes, but I think he won a qualifying match in this tournament.
Great point...
I actually think it was something else going on behind the scenes. Not that playing atrocious helps. I remember watching the match live and Jimmy seemed irritated even as they walked out. Almost threw his case under the table.
He is a over the hill snooker player who should of hung up his cue years ago . Pathetic really
Tbf to the ref I couldn’t understand Jimmy’s nomination either
Literally as the clip plays he is heard making the nomination but it's really hard to make out what he said. The referee misheard ovbiously. After correcting the ref, Jimmy then turns round and calls him a dinlo "a person devoid of intellect". In snooker, typically understood as gentleman's sport, where banter is often seen as good humour to lighten the mood, to be serious when insulting the ref like a football player might do, would seem to many to be ridiculous therefore it must have been a joke right...but no apparently. Jimmy was way out of line. He was playing badly when he expected to play well and unfortunately has taken it out on the ref. I really respect Jimmy for what he has done for the sport in all his years and hope he regrets what he did here.
Whitey had another go at the ref at the end of the match when the ref offered his hand Jimmy gestured for him to shake the winners hand first. Just unneccessary. Pure bully boy and he should retire .
7:06...look at the master, who has seen it all, the hi-s and the lo-s, nodding his head in appreciation to what the kid says about the mental side of the game.
Think they've completely missed that the refs laughing at dinlo, not at the wrong colour choice
I think the ref thought jimmy was joking when he said dinlo, ref laughed and jimmy got upset purely because he wasn’t joking. Jimmy shouldn’t of called him names. Refs deserve more respect than these players give them.
@Hudsonsoul...The ref was spot on in giving Jimmy a warning
@@philrobinson981 I agree , Been a Jimmy fan since about 1985, but he was a nasty piece of work here.
I don't think the ref has a right to take a frame from someone just because they can't take it. Refs in all sports are a pain. All he said was what's funny about it..
*Threaten to take a frame I meant
@@paulanthony5274 it seems a bit extreme but they are professionals and professionals should act professional in all circumstances. I think snooker players are getting worse and expressing there anger at refs and opponents on screen. It says a lot about a players character if they can’t manage to control there outbursts. If they have a problem lm sure it’s not the best place to express there thoughts live on TV in front of 10s of thousands of viewers and embarrass the ref and more so disgrace oneself. The refs need to do something to show they are in control.
Angles and Ron are hardly the people to ask about thus!
The ads are longer than the subject !
Ronnie be like wtf am i hearing? This guy is taking a page from my book 🤣🤣🤣
Jimmy was in the wrong, he nominated a ball, the referee misheard and called a different colour, Jimmy corrected him and the referee laughed about it, as you would with a genuine mistake. Totally uncalled for reaction from Jimmy and he did give the referee "the finger". Great player, but let himself down in a lot of peoples eyes.
Ronnie is literally about to piss himself listening to this. Probably thinking of all the times he's had a pop at a ref.
If White had grabbed his snooker cue and hit the ref across the head with it. Ronnie will stay say it's the refs fault.
Jimmy was definitely out of order here, and I feel like he deserved the warning and when he got it, it snapped him out of it and made him realise he'd gone too far. It's just sad to see him like this; he was always a good natured player and here he's getting irritated because he isn't playing as well as he knows he can - he played some wonderful snooker in the seniors tournament earlier in the year. When he gets a chance on the tour these days, you can sense that it means so much to him to do well, that he puts far too much pressure on himself. Maybe it's time to call it a day if it's getting to the point that he's losing his temper and taking it out on other people.
The referee laughed at Jimmy. Laughed at his choice of colour. The referee did this on TV. Why don't you think the referee was in the wrong? I think Ronnie is correct. I think the referee should have apologised to Jimmy and asked him to continue. Jimmy then dismisses the referee by using a waved hand with the 1st finger raised a bit. Not the middle, not two fingers. Play it back at 0.25 speed and see for yourself. The referee then threatened to take the frame off him. After the ref laughed at him, and criticised his ball choice. I think the ref needs to be fair. He wasn't.
@@Google_Does_Evil_Now The referee isn't laughing at the choice of colour - if you listen carefully you can hear Jimmy call the referee a 'dinlo'; the ref understandably thinks Jimmy's having a laugh with him and takes it as a joke, but he wasn't joking. He's dead serious, then he flips out at the laughter. I agree the hand gesture wasn't offensive in itself; it was rude, but I think from the ref's perspective he was just fed up of being disrespected at that point and he wasn't going to put up with it any more. Jimmy was being rude and aggressive, and he absolutely deserved the warning.
Jimmy is pushing himself now too much. It's apparent now that he will never reach the heights in snooker that he had 25 plus years ago when he was Box Office. He will always be a legend but I think he's scraping the barrel these days and he has been now for a number of years
@@jameshughes9329 I feel sorry for him. Snooker has been his entire life for more than forty years, and I don't think he knows what else to do with himself. Steve Davis kept playing long after his peak but he knew when the game was up and eventually bowed out gracefully; he had his music interests to fall back on and now he seems really happy doing that. I think Jimmy is fearful that his life will be empty without snooker in it.
@@gunproofgrandad4381 Absolutely agree! It's like any professional sportsman isn't it? I think once the career is over it's a case of an empty void. Jimmy will always get work as a pundit but he obviously loves the game even though he's long gone as a force. Up until about 2012 I was always hopeful he'd get that one last chance at the Crucible but it's clear now that he's just a easy kill now even for lowly ranked players.
Ronnie is the Roy Keane of snooker.
"Drama" aside. Good win for Luca, interesting character.
It’s just sad that this is the only way Jimmy can generate a headline these days, not through his good play.
He’s 60 years old 😂
He didn't generate a headline in the last 20 years through his good play, so his reaction here is pretty weird to say the least.
@@chakko007 how many players apart from the class of 92 aged 40+ created good headlines by his play?
@@matthewwilliams4168 Actually, with the class of 92, you already include 3 players which are still top of the world in their age (i.e. world class players). Which is pretty remarkable in my opinion. If anything, that proves that you can still be world class in that age. Dunno if Ronnie will still be world class with 60 though, if he still plays then. Jimmy White never had the class of either of those 3, of course.
@@chakko007 Jimmy got to 6 world championship finals and if it wasn’t for Hendry you’d probably talk about Jimmie differently

Bad day for Jimmy, looking for an outlet for his anger.
I like Jimmy but I like Ben Williams much more. And this was clearly on Jim. Don't be rude to refs, they have a hard job with zero to none recognition.
The only 'dinlo' here was Jimmy White for nominating when there was no need.
Jimmy was already angry for being 3-0 down, then took the ref's laugh as a personal insult. McManus was afraid of getting chinned by Jimmy backstage so stuck up for him (with very little conviction). Ronnie's not a fan of refs anyway, and Jimmy's his mate, so no surprises he also stuck up for him. Jimmy was out of order. End of.

He did not give the finger and getting your butt kicked at the same time did not help. The ref is not there to be be their mate, hes there to do a job
The ref is also not there to be spoken to like complete crap. Hardly appropriate calling him a ‘Dinlo’ due to making a tiny mistake in announcing the wrong colour due to mishearing jimmy. White wasn’t even down on the ball so it’s a ridiculous thing to get angry over. Jimmy was losing and annoyed so he took it out on the ref.
Jimmy is there to do a job too, the ref was doing his better obviously!
That table cloth with the balls is a thing of beauty
Jimmy mumbles Blue Ball. Ref tried to make it clear and says Blue Ball. Then Jimmy changed his mind and says brown ball, and you can hear him mumble I didn't look. I just heard that the ref is now hiding in the boot of a Rover on the Glen of the Emerald Isles
The caption above is not accurate. The ref did not laugh at his own mistake. He laughed at Jimmy's retort. OK Ref made the call for nominated colour too soon and he really ought to have waited or asked Jimmy what he was playing. As Jimmy is not normally so like this he assumed his "dimlo" (?) remark was just a bit of banter and laughed it off - he could've warned Jimmy for that remark alone but chose to laugh it off and not mkae a thing of it - esp as he'd made a minor error. Jimmy saw pure red. He never gave him the finger but given the attitude and without a replay the ref would have to assume it was the finger. It's not the sort of thing we're used to seeing in snooker.
Awkwardness is a key factor in snooker long may it continue
The player needs a smack from the ref, not a warning.
no one defending Jimmy has has mentioned the fact he insulted the ref. up until that point its an innocent mistake by the ref or a mumbled nomination by Jimmy misheard. once he insulted the ref he was lucky for the ref to laugh it off, and to press it further removes the grey area from the incident. misheard
Correct but the ref should have warned Jimmy then whether or not he thought he was joking instead of waiting to accuse Jimmy wrongly just to be the big man in the situation. Bloody child shouldn't be refereeing if he is that unprofessional. Jimmy was already having a bad enough time without the ref first of all getting his nomination wrong and then bursting out laughing.
Naturally Ronnie and the other guy will defend him, their mates with him. Snooker players can be very disrespectful to the referees. Disgusting by White. He’s a sook
I used to remember the days of Higgins and steve davies and the like. `but looking at Higgins now.. he looks absolutely battered and stressed. man, it hurts to look at him now. seems as though the stressed has got to him
Jimmy White called him a 'Dinlo' - he should have been warned for that, these two are totally wrong here...
It's a bit strange Alan saying refs used to refer to the players as sir and that it worked, I don't doubt that, but if you did what Jimmy did and called a ref a dinlo... Where's the respect there?
After the ref made the mistake of calling the blue ball as Jimmy's next colour...all Jimmy did was say brown ball! He didn't EVEN have to nominate a colour (as Ronnie explained, he could choose ANY of the colours) The fact was the ref laughed at Jimmy when he should have made an apology for his mistake. The ref has a job to officiate a snooker match NOT be a comedian. Jimmy felt disrespected as I'm sure anyone else would if they were in his shoes at the time.. I'm on Jimmy's side here. His LAST words in the clip were "I've done nothing wrong."
Yh he called the ref a name first. Called him a dimlow. Think they were both a bit petty and lacked professionalism.

He’s a funny guy
I'm a massive Jimmy fan. However I've turned the volume up, he does appear to say "blue" which the ref repeats, Jim then says "brown" correcting himself. I don't even know if "dinlo" is Jimmy talking to himself or the ref. The ref obviously thinks it's aimed at him (maybe) and laughs. Clearly Jim is under the pressure, not doing well, and pretty much staring down the barrel, very frustrated. He's taken it out on the ref, who has laughed at an inappropriate point- maybe if it was the first frame, then it would had all have been smiles, however I think the ref has unfortunately misread the situation, and the laugh has wound Jimmy up, he's then reacted, made a big thing about it. I think both their egos have been pricked a little bit there. Learning for both of them, I think! Probably about time Jimmy retired.
I love this Belgium (Zen) bullitt.
Shoe shine Jimmy....
There's errors on both sides that led to the situation snowballing: Jimmy should have declared louder - it isn't that clear when he mumbles "brown" even with the microphones amped up. Alternatively, he shouldn't have declared at all - Ronnie is spot on that Jimmy will hit whichever ball he is intending to play, so the nomination is probably a little redundant. Ben clearly hears Jimmy saying something, but clearly mis-hears him. If he wasn't sure what had been nominated, he should have asked Jimmy to repeat his nomination, and this would never have happened. The fact that he declared "blue" shows he probably honestly believes Jimmy nominated that ball. Jimmy is right to get up off the shot and correct him, because if he does play the brown after the blue was nominated it's a foul. Ben shouldn't have laughed when Jimmy corrected him - he should have apologised for his own error and corrected the call once it becomes clear what the call actually was. Ben does have a sense of humour from previous matches I've seen him referee and doesn't take himself too seriously for the most part, therefore I believe he isn't laughing at Jimmy. Jimmy shouldn't have taken it as anything other than Ben laughing at his own error. He actually said "don't laugh" before Ben actually does, so I would argue that he was in a bad frame of mind to begin with. Ben should have apologised the moment he saw that the laughter had offended Jimmy, but I don't think he tried to - instead it sounds like he was trying to argue his case as to why he laughed. Apologise and we stop here. Jimmy raises his hand and gestures with his index finger. Given that Ben is looking at Jimmy's face and sees the gesture out of his peripheral, it's reasonable to assume that Ben believes it was a middle finger. I wasn't looking at his hand first time I saw the clip and it does look an awful lot like he's flipping the birdie. Given what Ben thinks he sees, he's within his rights to issue a warning on the grounds of ungentlemanly conduct, regardless of whether it is what actually happened. You could argue the gesture in itself is aggressive in nature, irrespective of which finger he actually stuck up. Jimmy accepts the warning but he's clearly been put off and misses the brown. Doesn't really matter who's at fault - it's so awkward, it overshadows the result.
He didn't laugh when Jimmy corrected him. He laughed after Jimmy called him a Dinlo. I'm surprised he didn't give him a warning for that instead.
"I’m funny how, I mean funny like I’m a clown? I amuse you?"
Why is no one talking about Jimmy calling names to the ref? He called him Dinlo! That alone should be a warning. It's ridiculous that they were talking about the ref laughing. Of course he was laughing, otherwise he would have taken the "Dinlo" seriously, and being that serious calling him that, it's just extremely disrespectful.
I love Jimmy white, he's my hero but I think Williams is 100% correct!! You can't insult a ref like that and not expect there to be a consequence!!
There is a couple o players who is not repectfull enough to the judges, thats a shame.
A Joe Pesci moment from Jimmy there. Good stuff.
Yeah, referee should have told him: "Now go get your f-ing shine-box..."
Ref thought it was middle finger I think, but Jimmy knew full well the index finger would paint a similar meaning but without making it obvious. lol
In my humble opinion, the umpire needs a serious warning...... the tail should NEVER wag the dog....

Jimmy 😞! It’s not the incident with the Ref, it’s the fact it’s a signifier that all is not well in the great man’s life.
He puts too much pressure on himself. You can tell with his shot selection he wants to win too much if anything. It’s just the rage against the dying of the light, made a bit worse for our Jimmy because he spent his sporting prime wasted. Had the time of his life no doubt, but now it’s a case of what might have been.
