HOW MANY DAYS DOES IT TAKE FOR CREATING THIS?

Every Blender Open Movie beautifully demonstrates how capable Blender is, and this is no exception. I especially loved the behind-the-scenes look during the credits.
Same! As someone who uses blender, I can’t even fathom the idea of being able to do something as complex as that
@@_moonlitskyy_ I agree with you to an extent but the tools being great are what enable the artist to achieve their vision. So it's an accomplishment for the artists and the tools. I do a lot of amazing things with the tools available to me, but if I had to do everything with a rusty spoon my end product or my sanity would suffer :P
Yes, people need to stop thinking that just because software is open source and doesn't cost the price of a house, that makes it bad. Blender is still very studio grade.
@@fragmister Funny, the reason movies switch to VFX is because of the *cost* and safety concerns. A specific scene in The Shining (1980) cost $50k on the cheap, but realistically, $100k incase of unforeseen costs. If it's CG it would cost $14~20K. You can skim the video "CGI vs Real - Can you tell the difference" to know more. "Industry" standard subscriptions ain't getting cheaper, infact it's the exact opposite. As time goes on, the subscriptions would just keep piling up on the price, while Blender historically, just keeps getting better.
as i understand they used non-free addons for animation and rig productioon of this movie is not completely free
Blender did it again!
yes

omg hi lokman
They do it all the time
Cinema 4D
Noone's gonna talk about the sound design now? That was a giant leap!!!
I don't know why but now I want a full-on animated series with these two.
Because that was in all ways amazing and had a lot of the hallmarks of classic cartoons? I'd LOVE a full series of this! Beautiful blend of art techniques!
me too
same here!
I want one too
Go make it! We'll cheer you on! It's open source!
That blend of 3D with 2D style is as smooth as butter. This one was exceptional. Probably my favourite since spring.
Charge too is my fav
I recognize that pfp from anywhere, hello again
@@brendansapp wait what? When? Who? How did ya know me?
@@RenderingUser I forget, either your name was. default cube, or you were someone I talked to near 2018-2020 in either a blender discord, captain disillusion discord, or just a commenter I see often on KZhead, I think I've also replied to your stuff before on here
@@brendansapp ah I see. I have infact been to all the places you mentioned.
I can't tell where 2d ends and 3d starts, really well done. I like that Blender bounces between serious and comical movies.
beauty of blender, they kind of melt together with grease pencil and such

Very entertaining! I love it
is that the escalator guy
@@shrimpaerospace yes, he is.
Yeah, it is. Favorite part is when the dog runs his hand across all the switches. hahaha I saw I guy back in college get his computer to work correctly by doing exactly that in the computer lab.
That was fantastic. I'm showing this to my advanced animation class today.
don't have high expectations tho, this is done by like 100 experienced people.
@@MangaGamify17 but ok
W teacher 💯
I love how Blender keeps pushing the 2D/3D hybrid style of animation. For people who prefer one over the other, I feel like the mix of the two is the best approach. I hope gaming could implement more of this 2D/3D style.
remind me of that particular movie back then... where a bunch of animals killed tortured and bleeding. happy tree friend anybody?
You can't really have 2D and 3D mixed in many genres it's just geniunly not possible, for one the lack of engines capable to make a fully mixed game, second a lack of an audience, and third like.. why..?
@@cyonu5675 For one, I really like it and it adds character. And I'm not talking specifically this style of 2D/3D shown in the video. Games like Sifu and Stray have flat paintered textures which gives it a semi 2D feel. Other examples are first Life is Strange, Bayonetta Origins, Valkyrie Chronicles series, Guilty Gear Strive, Valorant, the upcoming Prince of Persia, and Hi-Fi Rush. Not every game needs to be like this but I wouldn't mind if more were.
@@cyonu5675 How do you know about the lack of audience?
@@khoavo5758 if there were people willing to buy it then it’d probably exist
1:26 i love how the wings got stuck during the start lol
just when I was thinking my videos are finally looking decent I come across this masterpiece.... 🤣
The expectations would be higher ofcourse if it's done by more than one person, I bet your average friend couldn't do what you do. If you check the credits, there are like more than
Men the stuff you have is pretty well done, but yes, imagine just 9 people like you working on 4 min short
@@MangaGamify I think you need to learn what < means
FEels!
You have more subscribers than Blender though 🤣
This is a great example how you can combine Grease Pencil with 3D 🥰 Great job guys!
This is so.....visually STUNNING, I can't believe it is 3D especially for the characters ! The shaders are OFF THE TOON CHARTS !
I didn't realize it was 3D until the credits roll.... I'm BLOWN away.
2:39 This makes me laugh everytime.
Blender always breaks paradigms and makes it clear that it allows you to "step out of the box" whenever you want. Congratulations to those involved!
I've always enjoyed watching all of the videos made with Blender ever since Elephant Dreams.
Always such bangers
This animation is SO cool!!! It's amazing how powerful Blender has become- especially considering its a FREE software!!! Massive respect to everyone who worked on this and to everyone who works at Blender!!!
I like the character dynamic between them, and I liked the part where the cat gives a nod of appreciation to the dog for doing something good for once.
I love this, specially since if I recall correctly, the relationship between these two is supposed to represent the artists and the engineers
Watching this at 6am was like taking a time machine to my childhood before-school cartoon binges. Such good vibes, and presented perfectly. Thanks for reminding me why I became an animator in the first place.
Same thing here
2:03 tell me I’m not the only one who thought of the Pixar short for Ratatouille when he flipped all those switches!
You clever bastards.
It's like Tom and Jerry. The music and the emotions
It is so difficult to tell which is 2D from 3D and I am not new to animation. Well done Team Blender. Congrats!
I may not be able to comprehend all the work which was put in these amazing four minutes, but I understand enough to admire every frame of it! Well done!
So much work went into every level of this short, like all the Blender movies, it's a shame you won't be enjoying the fruits of your labors more by reusing these assets and making it a series!
I saw somewhere that this portraits very well a developer/artist interaction in the Blender community, and it makes A LOT OF SENSE. While the developers are wanting to make sure that the features [0:54] are working perfectly fine until we're ready to use in a serious/big production -- or flying in this case [1:25] --, most of us, artists, want to take charge and dig into all the tools we see [0:45], even if they are not optimized or fixed, which causes many crashes, just like the space shuttle did [2:44]. Fortunately, in the community we are not piloting a literal space shuttle, so we are allowed to crash it as many times as we want, so we can acknowledge the developers what's wrong and what can be fixed.
Behind the scenes are wonderful! The cat's shading + the dog's mouth rig. Impressive as always, Blender team!
I love these videos because there's blender users and then there's movies by blender that just blow the doors off what you thought possible. So well done! I only wish there was a more cohesive way to learn from Blender how to use the software. But this video was amazing.
Another open movie in the books! The blend of 2D and 3D is also pretty cool. I could imagine studios like Xilam, Flying Bark, and Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick using a style like this.
My favourite part of this short film is the art style in that you took a regular 2d cartoon from Nickelodeon or a Disney cartoon show show (think duck tales, big city greens and Molly McGee and the ghost), and made it into 3D.
Putting tools in the hands of everyone, allowing them to freely explore different passions (and not just the one the can afford to commit 100% to/get a job in/the one their survival is coupled to), and bringing soul back to these arts, wonderful.
Guys, you continue to change the industry. Thank you for the opportunity to do this together with you!❤
Let's not forget the music and sound effects as well, which really sell the animation sequences.
Yes, they are professionals in this animation, I'm just starting
Incredible. Everytime I decide "no blender probably isnt for me" something like this shows up and pulls me back in
Hello Blender studio, I've been waiting for this moment for months this year. This is the fourth time I've been online when they uploaded a video just that day. Your short film is great, I loved it, it has a funny and incredible ending.
I was more impressed at the end credits seeing how it all came together more than anything. Amazing stuff here 🤙🏿
Blender has a ridiculous amount of flexibility that you would trust them that every scene is 3D if not for the devlogs
12 years working on the industry and you still tricked me to think it was all 2D character animation ^^U Great work!
I love how every single blender movie is always so different, interesting, and fun!!!!! Love this one!!
Astonishing! 2d movies, 3d movies, anything beyond the power of your computer is possible!
What I love about this is that not just the studio wins, not only blender wins, the whole 3D and 2D community wins!
This is the first time that I care about the narrative in a Blender open movie, and got an unexpected, genuine laugh from it.
🎉🎉🎉😂❤❤❤ 0:07 You nailed it !!! (pun intended)
Man, I love these blender open projects. Keep on improving the software guys.
Now that's how you do 2D in 3D. It's crazy how good this looks. I'd swear it's hand drawn if it wasn't so smooth.
blender has GOT to become an animation studio
This is the best animation ever done by blender foundation, EVERYTHING IS SPOT ON!! I Looooveee it!
Have been following this movie for a year now and it was totally worth it! Loved the style and the exxageration of the characters ! This movie shows how capable blender is ! Godspeed.

I've seen all Blender shortfilms, from Elephant Dream many years ago to this, every time is a very emotional experience.
This was fantastic! Such a joy to watch and a cute premise! To all who worked on this, you all did a fantastic job!
And as a reminder, this is 3D. Man I witnessed the beginning of blender, and watched it grow over the years to be the industry-level software it is today. Good luck in the future!
Beautifully done! Anim is a step beyond, here - huge congrats to all involved.
Really liked the contrast between the cartoon background and the 3D look of the rocket in the sky, it had an Amazing feeling!
Wow! What a movie. As a Blender user, I am immensely proud of Blender. And, of course, I'm proud of you guys too for making this awesome movie. Good job, guys! 👍👍
Great work, not just on a technical level. The story, conveying so much without spoken dialogue, the characters having a set identity, the little details to give it its own style (the chicken in the horn was a nice touch), it works on so many levels.
Every time, the blender makes it more inspirational & loving! Big respect for the Blender team and the whole community. 💕
Fantastic! These open movies are always amazing

So fun!! The blend of 3D and 2D was smooth and natural, and the animation looks great!! The behind-the-scenes during the credits are a super fun nod to the artists and Blender community

I absolutely love the 2D and 3D mixture in this animated short. It really uses the best of both worlds 👍
Amazing animation and shading work and style. This 3D/2D is definitely a step forward for modernizing 3D animation allowing a more artistic aproach. Thank you very much.

Magic in 3D !! 🖤 Well done, Blender guys!
You're telling me you managed to replicate the 2D cartoon look perfectly in 3D? Holy smokes, that's really impressive.
This is EXACTLY the type of stuff I've been wanting to tinker with as a 2D to 3D artist!!! I JUST upgraded my GPU too!! Fantastic work and an amazing resource, I'm so excited to dive into the files!!

I love this! Great job Blender team!! ❤
This animation truly excelled in both storytelling and comedic timing. The combination of animation techniques, including the skillful use of 2D effects and 3D , resulted in the most entertaining Blender Open Movie to date.
Funniest Blender movie yet! Great work, and very clever title. Another winner from the coolest studio on earth.

Love it!! The animation, the look, the story!! Great work!! Congratulations!!
That was so cool . I bet the artists had lots of fun doing this project
Finally a CGI animation that genuinely feels like 2D unlike all the choppy and low fps 2d shaded crap that's out in the theaters recently.
how dare you
@@sequoia5934 prettyyy sure they're blaming the larger corporations, that have more of a hand in decision making than the animators. Weird that you assume otherwise
@@anima_015I disagree solely because by context, the movies they seem to be talking about are spiderverse & the new puss in boots which are beautifully made films and deserve all the praise. Animation is a medium that's so versatile and shitting on genuinely well made films instead of lazy cash grab schlock is ridiculous. Into/Across rhe spiderverse, the lego movie, puss in boots: the last wish and Mitchells vs the machines are such well loved movies for A REASON.
@@hoxiipoxii56 ohh i honestly read it as them hating on movies that clearly had little to no artistic love put into them, such as Wish. I LOVED all the movies you just named and I literally cannot imagine a single bad thing about any of them, so I do retract my statment under that context. Thank you for telling me!
@@anima_015 No problem! I could tell due to the fps comment, as the fps dropped significantly during action scenes (I studied these movies a lot as an artist myself!) Really sucks that op thinks this... Kinda hurts since they're from the more competent movies in the industry right now
