I work with a local cat rescue and I foster & socialize feral kittens. This is typical behavior for their first interaction with humans. Some tame easily and for others it is a really hard sell. But I can tell you that NOTHING is sweeter than those first purrs from a formerly feral feline.😍😻😍
I can't stop thinking about the fact we are literal giants to kittens.
Come here kitty! Kitty: What is that Kaiju screaming?
And many make mistakes to approach their hand above their heads when petting. Only tamed ones dont run because they know, they still dont like it most of the time...some loves it knowing petting is involved.
@@ajstyles5704 I think the best approach is showing your hand ans letting them sniff first. I still do this to my cats at home because that's how they engage petting tbh. Still mind blowing how a tiny creature can trust us. I had a terrified kitten ending up sleeping cuddled up against me in the night and it's crazy that the kitty was willing to trust me.

This is why I love cats. For most of them, it's as simple as helping them understand you're not a threat. They recognize you and understand that you would rather pet and feed them than harm them.
I rescue cats. I won't completely tame a cat unless I know it's got a safe home. I've got mixed emotions about teaching a fragile creature to trust the most dangerous animal on the planet, the human..
I have 3 rescues. They received ZERO medical care prior to coming to live with me. One was living with a Vet tech and her parents, so I'm baffled how that cat wasn't spayed or vaccinated. The others were strays who gravitated towards a Halfway House. The clients meant well, but I took in two cats who had serious medical needs. Two of my cats have permanent disabilities. I will always adopt rescues, and will give them a good and loving home. I'm not happy with the folks I adopted my rescues from. One has tried to find out my address to take the cat back. Seriously? He was thin from a worm infestation, had a fungal infection that caused him to lose all the fur from his head, and had an infected open wound from fighting with other cats/wild animals. He had no vaccinations, and was intact. He's healthy now. I told my son (who works at the Halfway House) that the client needs to reimburse me for the vet bills, and show me that he has the means to care for the cat. He dropped the subject. Yep. Didn't care about the cat.

After taming 4 feral kittens last summer, this is exactly what it's like. It took us weeks before they'd even let us touch them while they weren't eating. They were all outdoors, so they could run if they were scared. But then one morning I went out to feed them and it was like a light went off in their heads, and suddenly 3 out of the 4 were wanting me to pet them, instead of the food. It was the best feeling in the world, I tell you.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I fell into somewhat of an amateur Cat & Kitten Rescue. I've always adored cats and tried to help them - Dogs, too - I've rescued & found homes for a handful over the years. However, when we moved into our home in this neighborhood a few years ago, I had no idea what I was in for. The nextdoor neighbor has an intact male that lives mostly outdoors. I offered to pay to have him neutered, and even to deliver him and pick him up. The wife said, "Oh no. I wouldn't wanna do THAT to him." So instead, she just allows him to continue adding scars to all those he already has. Idiot. Female cats, as well as other males, found their way here. I started feeding them, and naturally, their numbers grew. 2 females have had 2 litters each either in the "Cathouse" outbuilding I have set up for them behind my house (approx 7'x10', with a fan, a heater, at least a dozen separate sleeping areas with room for more, heating pads, food, & water), or under the house nextdoor. The 2nd litters only happened because I knew nothing or very little about the extraordinary reproductive abilities of cats. It's nothing for them to get pregnant within 10 weeks of having a litter. Some can get pregnant again within a few days. We've Spayed/Neutered and Vaccinated more than a dozen Cats, so far, and provided Vet care for a handful of injuries &/or illnesses. One of the first 2 Cats to adopt us was a poor, old, sick, male cat that coughed when it got really cold at night. He was rhe first heating pad recipient. And I swear to you that he looked up at me with his soft, loving eyes, and he THANKED ME. HONESTLY! He showed the most gratitude I think I've ever seen a cat exhibit. I didn't want to move him, so I simply laid the pad OVER his back. He stayed there, under the heating pad, the ENTIRE night. He soon showed unmistakable signs of having pain when he ate, so we took him to the Vet. Sadly, he not only had SEVERAL broken teeth, he also had Feline Immune Deficiency Virus (FIV), which is the equivalent of AIDS in cats. I had never heard of it before. I still have a lot to learn. With his advanced age, all the broken teeth causing him so much pain, and the advanced stage of FIV, the Vet said it would be best to put him to sleep. He had only been living on our front porch for about 2 weeks, but he was such a gentle and loving sweetheart that my daughter and I bawled our eyes out. We held and petted him and told him how much we loved him and what a good boy he was as he drifted off. I still miss him, along with all the kitties that I've lost in my 57 years. When our big, 15 year old boy kitty, Duke, lost his health to such a huge degree that we knew we were going to have to let him go, Covid-19 was surging, so the Vet we used at the time was not allowing people to be with their pets during euthanasia. We said, "NO DAMN WAY are we gonna make him do this alone!" We wouldn't have been able to live with ourselves after putting him through such a cruel ordeal. It's bad enough to have to do it in the first place. My daughter told me to check into finding a Vet to come to our house. I hadn't thought of or heard of that before. But sure enough. We found a wonderful, female, doctor in the area who did exactly that for us and for Duke. Thank God. And it wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. So remember that option in case you ever need it. We've managed to find good homes for several cats and kittens, but that can be tricky. People need to be vetted as much as is possible without violating any privacy rules or laws. Since I'm not a licensed animals shelter or rescue organization, I can't ask the same questions or ask for the same info that THEY can. You don't want to just advertise to everyone that you need homes for cats or kittens, because, as most of us realize, there are some VERY bad people out there, mixed in with all the GOOD people. My daughter checked their Facebook accounts and pages to try to get a sense of how they felt about animals, especially cats. There was one woman whom my daughter didn't feel right about and didn't feel comfortable giving her a kitten, so we simply DIDN'T. We've been lucky (or rather, our cats and kittens have) that we personally knew most of the people who took kitties home. We followed up with people, whether we knew them or not, and asked for pictures of my "Grand-Kits". We still care for 4 outside, 3 inside, and 2 wild, intact, males that I need to TNR. Fortunately, all the others are spayed or neutered, so at least those 2 males can't impregnate any at this time. Most of those we still have will always be with us because they will only come to me for pets and love. A few will also go to my daughter. We either didn't find them or they didn't find their way here at a young enough age to be tamed enough for rehoming. The 2 times when we DID know a litter had been born and where they were, we made sure to handle them early on, so they wouldn't fear people. I wish we could afford to build a nice, big, fully enclosed (and covered to protect the cats from winged predators) Cat Pen in our backyard. Unfortunately, I'm on Disability. My daughter has a pretty good state job, but she's still young (30), so she has a while to go before she can work her way high enough up the ladder with promotions and raises to make THAT kind of money. We do have a low-cost Vet nearby for the Spaying/Neutering/Vaccinations. They have saved us THOUSANDS of dollars. Now back to the original comment. 😂 That moment when a scared kitten or cat, that has never had a reason to trust humans before, finally brushes against my leg, showing signs that it wants to receive petting and affection, and I'm finally allowed to reach out and touch its beautiful fur for the first time, NEVER. GETS. OLD. and I truly don't believe it ever will.
@@dr.killmoretreeratologist8848 Absolutely. It was the first time we've ever fostered kittens like that. It was our neighbor's cat who got pregnant and had the kittens. After not seeing her for about six months, she comes to OUR backyard, scrawny and starving. We feed her, next day she comes back with two VERY feral kittens, about four weeks old, and we start feeding them. Next day, she comes with two more feral kittens, and the baby daddy, a beautiful orange tom cat. We know he was the baby daddy because one of the kittens was the spitting image of him, with the same white chest and paws. We named them Pumpkin and Pumpkin Jr. (PJ) respectively. There were two gray tabbies, both males as well, and one pastel tortie-tabby that was a girl. Took us weeks, and PJ ended up with a severe infection that we had to catch him and take him to the vet for, and he got to spend 3 days inside living the good life, with our cat Lizzie who was less than excited to have a new housemate, lol. We ended up fixing Pumpkin and Callie (the mom), and finding Pumpkin a home as a barn cat (he was so sweet, but was definitely not made for the indoors, lol). Unfortunately we couldn't keep all the kittens, so we ended up having to give the boys to the shelter, and we ended up finding out they were sent to the local PetSmart, so we were very happy about that. We kept the mom and the female kitten, both spayed, and we tried to find homes for both of them, but nothing worked out. We ended up keeping the female kitten, but our cat HATED Callie, and she was spraying all over the house, and our cat got very stressed and very sick, so we had to give her away. But it was an amazing and rewarding experience, for sure. We also got Mocha, who has been a wonderful part of our lives. We lost our cat, Kirk, a week before Callie came to us with her kittens, and we knew we were meant to help them and were meant to have Mocha. It's amazing what animals can do for us.

I've never seen Anything like this before. Been a cat person for over 50 yrs. It's a first for me and I LOVE it. AWESOME!!!!!!
I raised 3 wild kittens that were 2.5 weeks old. They hated me but also demanded food and attention.
Nothing new, my wife does that too.
I had two feral kittens brought to me from a farm. Both were very sick with feline herpes. For the first couple of weeks they'd only come out from behind the stove to eat once I'd left the kitchen. It took me another month to get them to trust me. Once I broke that barrier, they were awesome cats, an orange boy and a tortoiseshell female. RIP, Boris and Natasha. Gone but not forgotten.
@@stefanlaskowski6660 Did they died from their sickness or because of an old age?
They both lived for more than eight years despite the veterinarian telling me they would probably only live for a couple of years. Both were partially blind in their left eye from the herpes.

Kitten: "I will kill you dead!" Hoomin: "Oh, how cute and adorable!"

A wondrous bundle of hungry sweetness on the inside....amazing what a little love and TLC can do ")
Absolutely terrifying!! Sooo scary!!! Lol, I ABSOLUTELY love this sweet ferocious baby!! 💕💕
Puppies always they act terrified when terrified.. Small kitten when terrified:" So you chose death huh boy'..🤣🤣🤣
Scared Puppies: whimper whimper Scared Kittens: I keeel you giant, hear me?KEEEEEL YOU. You come back for more? I keeel you more.
Yeah you come heere more I KEEEEEL you moreee
He might not be that dangerous, but only because he is smol. In fury/kg, he is a monster.
Hahahaha I love this! Fury/kg is a unit I'm gonna start using. (Small dogs would be off the scale on it!)
Make that fury/mg and it's a better equation.
He's tiny but thinks he's a big tiger. Lol
My cat is nearly 20lbs. I better not piss her off!
@@pthesmith Whatcha feeding your cat, my guy
When you put the food up to the kitten and it licked it's chops and grabbed the bowl with it's paw, was so good lmao. Like "No no no, the food can stay, but you should go"
What A Sweet Kitten,He Was Just Scarred At First But “Love” Prevailed❤😊
That man's hand bears testimony to how many times he was "torn to pieces"....
Who knew "smell my finger" is an effective training tool.
I hope you meant an actual finger by word "finger" 😄
At least it was "smell my finger" not "pull my finger!!"
This kitten is so funny 😂 the little tiger turns into an angel just after some petting 😂😂😂
I remember we picked up these 3 little fluff balls and put them in our basement to get them more tame. They at first hated me. By the 4th day they were snuggling in my lap. I am glad they all have a home together.
The hissing and pop hissing is not from anger. It is from fear. They are fraidy muffins till they realize they are not in danger. Sniffing is a good sign because they are calming down trying to figure out who you are. They actually see very blurry especially when young.
Very true. They know the mother by smell when they are newborns.

Fraidy muffins oml that is adorable
Yup, and that very non reactive attitude to the swats and the tiny claws... just "yes, yes, calm down"
Muffins🤣🤣🤣🖤
I didn’t expect that hiss in the end though. It’s like « I can eat you alive, don’t assume we’re friends yet! » such a cute terrified kitty 🐈⬛
Baby kitten very wonderful and very beautiful colour and very happy 🐈😻👌👌👌👌
Thank you for being a loving human with that much patience. ❤️🙏
The cat’s probably thinking “You give me scratches, I like you now” 😂😂😂
kitten: I HATE EVERYTHING human : ill still love you kitten: WHAT IS THI-*sniff sniff* ACCEPTABLE
That was sweet when he liked that cheek rubbing, "oh, that's nice" then turned his head so could get the other side too.
The way it growl like after stop petting "oh that feels good- didn't told you to stop, did I? Keep going.."
you can see a war scar on this man hand
So tiny, so ferocious. He reminds me of the feral kitten I rescued 17 years ago, and who became my closest friend.
are you surprised to poor little thing is trying to take a dump he does not want to be disturbed while doing that would you like to be disturbed when you taking a dump on the toilet?
@@raven4k998 That's literally what I just commented lol, no one seems to notice, but this little kitten just want to poop in peace. Cats are very scared when they do that because it's a moment of vulnerability and this kitten was not comfortable enough with human to do that... When a cat spend a lot of time and is comfortable with human, it's not a big deal (most of the time). But for kitten, it's something else. Poor little thing
@@XxKidnoffxX yepper's your totally right and yet these sick people think the cats being bad when it's them being bad to the poor cat and yes I noticed so you and me are the only smart ones here to notice that most obvious detail among all these morons yay😃
@@XxKidnoffxX ohh i was wondering what was in the box

That baby wasn't all the way feral. I think scared and hungry. What an Angel. My cat, Tupac, heard it cry and is now looking for the baby. Lol xox
Thank you so much for caring for this KITTEN 🐱
