15 Strangest Cat Behaviors Explained
It’s a well-known fact that cats aren’t for everyone. They’re moody, hard to please and they like living on their own schedules. But at the same time, you will never find a pet as loving as a cat. Cats are easy to train, low-maintenance and some of the most affectionate companions as far as animals go. But, as adorable as these furry little creatures are, cat-owners often find their kitties doing some… pretty questionable things. Which really makes us all wonder: What goes on inside a cat’s brain? From purring to face rubbing and sleeping all day long, in this video, we’re taking you through 15 of the strangest cat behaviours to help you understand what they really mean.

I don’t find it annoying at all when cats rub there faces on me, I actually love it lol
Is the narrator even a human being? How does a person not understand affectionate nuzzling and have to explain it like it’s some kind of discovery?
@@guymanperson1 lol right?

A stray cat living next to my hotel when i was travelling came to me and did this, my brother and i named it chonky cuz it was very chonky.
I never thought about my cat bringing me dead little animals as being a way to share food or train me to hunt. So far the lessons aren’t working.
I was NOT eating the grisly half of a mouse my tiger tom once had brought me! YECHHHHHH!
Erm-
😭💀 MY CAT GIVE ME DEAD BIRDS I CAN SERIOUSLY SEE THEIR FLESH AND BLOOD
Damn humans are lucky they have their furry overlords to take care of them. Can‘t even hunt those useless apes. 😪
I always thought of them as a 'cat gift'. It is the thought that counts
My cat died 4 days ago, watching the head butting makes me sad and miss her alot. Hope shes in a better place.
I'm SO SO SO sorry for your loss :( I have a new kitten and I cannot IMAGINE losing her in feel really bad for you..... I Hope You get better soon tho! :)
I'm so sorry 😞 I feel sad reading your comment. Cats are a blessing
I'm sorry for your loss hope you get loving cat again, God bless you ❤😢
I'm sorry 😞 I just got a cat 🐈 and I have no problems with him at all. Love him so much ❤️ 💗 I hope that you will find in your heart to get another ♥️ 😊best wishes for you
😢 so sorry.
Face runbing is adorable af and it's territorial definitely NOT annoying
Face rubbing is not territorial. Face rubbing is just having their scent to yours because they want it combined. At such a great honor that they want the rest of the world to now y'all are that close.
Agree. Why would he say annoying. 🤔 Makes me wonder how much he knows about cats
I was looking for this comment. I thought the same. If you think it's annoying, then maybe you shouldn't have a cat lol I cherish it every time it happens
Agreed, it’s my favourite thing that they do
Sometimes my cat just bitey face lol 😂
Cats are not nocturnal animals; they're crepuscular. This means that they are most active at dawn and dusk and get their rest during the day and night! Edit.. Thank you for the likes, I really appreciate! 😊 Take care all! 🙏
Hello Kathryn how are you doing today
@@stevenhenry4227 good thanks and you?

If a cat stops grooming themselves (licking themselves) take them to a vet immediately this happens when they are too tired to do so, usually because of an illness or disease such as cancer. Additionally if you find your cat only sleeping on their stomach with their legs underneath them and their head up bring them to a vet, this is a sitting down position not a sleeping one even if their eyes are shut, so if they aren’t sleeping in a regular position this could mean they are struggling to breathe properly due to reasons such as fluid in their lungs. (The reason cancer is mentioned twice is that it is the disease in cats I have most experience in as two cats I owed ended up getting the same kind, because of this we were advised on signs to look out for to bring the cats back to the vet for them to check them over. The two cats were siblings so we believe it was simply their genetics. I am not a vet, if you have concerns please ask your cats veterinarian for advice on your cats health. These are simply signs I have been told to look out for for my cats.
Yeah, when my cat stopped grooming itself we brought him to the vet and he had flee dirt.He also had red gums and reddish teeth. My uncle doesn't give a crap about my cat and I'm seriously about to slap him.
Bruh so many to read;-;
+100. If a cat isn't grooming itself, it's very sick. Cats hate being dirty.
😱😱 I once saw my kitten sleeping this way I never knew about any symptoms I hope wherever she is she's healthy n safe n happy 😭😭
Dully noted, thanks. 👌
4:45 - The sound of a newborn kitten purring is the cutest!
I was honored to see a mama cat actually having kittens. Most often you go to sleep with a pregnant cat & wake up to a mama with kittens. This girl had them right before my eyes. Now that is my idea of purrrty.
I once watched a cat jump (not fall) from a 4th floor to the street, he turned himself middle air until he reached the ground and kept on walking like nothing happened. 4th floors down!!! It was 20 years ago and I will never forget it.
Now thats Super Cat
Probably spring-locked his muscles upon the landing (or whatever the right term is) to not get hurt
My brother goes horseback riding a lot and I go there even though I'm scared shitless of them. The only reason I go there is because of this little black kitten named Gypsy. Whenever she sees me she always meows and comes up to me and headbuts me. She always cries when I go

Who would have thought that the love child of Jason and Jigsaw would be scared of horses.
@@rty08 LMAOOOOOOO
u might have a phobia of horses if ur scared of horses in general and not just riding on one
@@alyssarasmussen1723 I don't ride horses and I am not scared of them.
8:27 actually, they might bite when you're giving them too much affection while you thought you did something wrong but no, it's just the love bite☺️ I was waiting for this information to be in the video so I went and wrote it down for all of you to know. You can search it up too
My cats do that too. One of them likes to nibble on our fingers. But if I apply acrylic nails she loves them. She will rub her face on them and pull my fingers to her to lightly chew on them. I do make sure she does not damage them and swallow any of it. But it is done out of love and grooming.
sometimes they also do a thing called petting aggression
@@bellagirl172 that's what I meant

My cat did this to me i was so scared, i dodged it anyway🥲
I love all of their behavior and cuddles! I’ve given them so much affection since I’ve had my cats that I must cozy them when passing by them in any room and if one or all three are laying on me, my rule is I won’t get up until the kitties do. Haha! 😻
so you NEVER get up again :P?
Sir, you don’t know me from a hole in the wall but I would very much like to thank you. Thank you for being someone who is okay with being sensitive to animals. I used to hate myself for it thinking I was too “soft” but your comment helped me realize that we guys have hearts too and if it’s cute it’s cute damnit! A million thanks🥹✌🏾🤝
With my family our 2nd cat acted liked a dog. He had a very special bond with me. Even our 1st cat did a lot of head butting towards my nose or chin to cuddled with me and even kneeling his paws on my chest. Both cats did purred on me for loving me.
My roommate's cat loves headbutting me, then again I spoil him with love and affection. His food and toys are in my room cause my roommate also, unfortunately, forgets to pay attention to his own cat. Also he likes playing with my dog, so when we're both at work he has someone to play with.
To be honest it sounds to me like his cat chose to adopt you instead.
@@virginiatruax291 that's exactly what I was thinking. The cat decided that he preferred them over their roommate.
@@malikasowers6267 exactly, it happens. Just like animals will refuse some vets but accept another vet. It just demands on the person and animal.

Cats also teach you how to fight. If they’re rough housing with your hand or foot and they start licking you in the middle of it.. it means they’re telling they’re just playing they’re not trying to actually hurt you. They’re trying to teach you how to defend yourself
I once worked in an animal shelter and had my very own cathouse. They put an old house on the grounds I cared for about 50 adoptable cats. ❤️It. I learned so much and the cat ladies taught me tons.. They each have distinct personalities but then alike in many ways. They respected each other and hardly ever fought. Some love water would hang out under a dripping faucet playing with it. I had a very long lanky orange tabby could jump up, turn the doorknob with his paws and let everybody else out in the yard in mass escape. My fav were the big fat grey tabbies- American shorthair. They ❤️to eat and get up in high places lay around watching everybody. Tuxedo cats are sweet and very well mannered. Calico and tortoiseshell cats really sweet too. Never once got scratched or bit I guess they knew I loved them. A special group of feral cat ladies taught me about them too. They would live outside the shelter but sneak in to get food some tame enough to stay in a special little house with a bunch of places to hide when I came in to feed and clean. The feral cat ladies would carry a long pole with feathers on the end of a string and almost any cat can be lured to come that way. Anyway I loved to help get them adopted too. Black cats are the last two be adopted because people are still very superstitious about black cats 🤪 lol silly humans
Hahaha I'm sure you enjoyed that experience. Great stories
Did anyone adopt any of the feral cat ladies?
@@juskahusk2247 feral cats are feral & have no need to be adopted or owned. Maybe it's the same with the feral cat lovers

My cat doesn't rub her face on my face but does get near my face and breathes a little breath at me, which I find very funny!
5:31 cat yawning in a vid is still surprisingly contagious
Do not blow in your cat's face! You're going to get a hard slap from him or her! In fact do not put your face directly in their face. They think you're challenging them. Yes biting can be aggressive, they usually grow out it. Give it time. If your young cat is home alone all day, its to get your attention. I've grown up with a lot of cats, (not my doing) and they each have their own personality.
Which means that any general rule doesnt apply. Theyre very individual. My cat would never bite me. Ive had her for 15 years. However she does bite my kid and my gf who barely handle her at all.
Not necessarily true. My jaxi will not go to sleep until I'm directly in his face giving him kisses & all hell breaks loose if I turn my back towards him to try & get more comfortable. He stands up & taps me on whatever bare skin he can find. It's never an aggressive tap. Kinda like your child/grandchild tapping you to get your attention. So I have to roll back over, give him more kisses & tell him I love him which he'll reply by meowing in my face with his version of I love you too mama
3:01 Love that smirk as if saying "He's mine" lol.
For biting there is another thing - cats are emotional and when positive emotion overwhelm them , biting is a strong evacuation mechanic for them. So some bites are a way to express how they love you
kzhead.info0dZaSCGhdAQ?feature=share Watch this cute video😍🥺
I just got a cat fairly recently, as my uncle needed to re-house him. He's already house trained but he's barely a year old. He bites, very softly. Like he'll do it in such a way that he'll try to get your finger in between his fangs and his back teeth so that he doesn't hurt you. It's so precious.
Having a cat is a blessing!!! They are funny little fur balls that always make you happy 😊
So true😍🦊🐈
Cats also have another reason of head butting, it's their way of hugging you, when cats lick you it also means that they want to clean you or kiss you.
When he mentioned the thing about cats sprinting to release pent up energy, it didn’t surprise me lol. My mom’s cat, when we were living at our old house, used to do this on the second floor of our house. The floor and stairs were wooden so it made a lot of noise and we nicknamed her “Thunderfoot”. She would also stand outside the doors of our rooms and meow until somebody came to scratch her back while she ate her kibble. I thought this was cute, but it did get annoying when she decided to do it in the early hours of the morning. But what’s surprised me the most in the time that we’ve had her was when she fell 25 feet off the block at the top of our stairs, and survived without a scratch on her. She was scared but not injured at all.
8:53 "Give me attention!" Either, that, or he doesn't like your socks!🤣Cats are truly wonderful little creatures. I've had loads of cats in my life, more than every other pet I've had, combined. Right now, I have two: Rescue boys named Sage and Nutmeg, who are now five years old. They're the light of my life, and helped me heal after losing Blaze, my previous cat--who, in turn, helped me heal after a psychologically abusive relationship. My little twins give me so much love and laughter and happiness, and I'm grateful every day that they came along.
I had associated chirruping with birds but the second half of the explanation was fascinating . I'm trying really hard to communicate with my kitten, Nutz ( short for gingernut. I didn't quite think it through) to really get to know him on his terms. Thx for the explanation ☺
its not annoying when your loved kitty rubs their face on you! as said in the video. its nice.

Some people like it, some people don't like it. 🤷♂️
It’s annoying when they do it non stop
Ikr my Siberian cat always loves rubbing he face against me. She's so adorable!!
When he said low maintenance I started to question how my cat managed to be high maintenance
😂 me, too
Mine too. Extra high maintenance
Kneading is the cutest behaviour of cats for me. It's quite rare and harder to catch them doing though!
I was given a Kitten 2 weeks ago. Harriet is 11 weeks old now. She’s wearing me out, hahaha. Interactive play a few times daily. Then she plays with toys, climbs her tree and my curtains, naps, eats drinks and is very clean. She has found a tiny niche at the side of my bed, covered by a cloth and it’s ‘her space’. She also sleeps on my head at night! 😂🐱
My cat must really like my iPad because he always rubs his face against it lol (head rubbing can sometimes mean they want to stop their face from itching)
No, it probably means that you use your iPad alot and that it has a strong scent of you. Or maybe that the cat wants your attention when you use the iPad.
@@patrikkarlsson3783 true! Maybe that's a sign that they are telling you that you are using the iPad too much and that they want that attention for them instead 😃😄
My cat rubs her face or walks around my feet only when she sees me taking her food to give her 😆
Me too. The walking around my feet only happens when she’s hungry and wants food.
That's right 😆
Yeahhh 🤣
He bites me if its late💀
Mine seems to think that every time I move or walk is to get her more food
I have 23 cats and I notice several of my cats fell from the roof , another from the windows , , they land on their feet ...to my surprise, they just walk without any harm ...wow ...I said to a friend ..if I am the one who fell , I will have broken legs, hips , etc ..God loves them , protects them from harm .
One thing I noticed when a cat does not like you you cannot get them to change their mind no matter what you do
I’ve always been thinking that farm cats are the most well designed predators on land if sized up a bit. Later on I learned a creature on the science channel called tiger. My thought has been true all the time
“Making biscuits” is also called kneading. To add to this, the earlier cats are removed from their mother (which should actually be a lot later than the legal 8wks for the benefit of the kitten) the more they will do this later on.
Thanks! This was very helpful. Some of the clips are very cute.
Just subscribed. Great format and delivery of cat facts!
9:44 That fall was personal.
Cats imitate birds to put them at ease and then catch and eat them 😂 So yeah, not so wholesome…
Thanks for this video. I knew most of the stuff because I had cats all my life. But the purring even if they're scared, that one surprised me. I thought the purring was only when they like a person or thing a lot and was an expression of happiness... I just know something new, now. So I will be observing that on my beautiful cat Lilah. 😻😸
The purring when they are scared is much different, more like trembling
Love bites and head rubs are my favorite moments with my baby Yuki💙
cats will also bite if your petting them a lot cause they get overstimulated. people usually get confused over that.

5:48 I've seen my cats do this with that exact same face a few times when they smell eachothers butts 😭😭😭. Has me dying laughing everytime.
I'm just so used to my kitties and all their behaviors. Nothing doesn't surprise me about them. I have seen mine do everything that you guys showed in the video.
there’s this cat who comes in to our house and stay until we get him out. he sometimes come to our room and did some jumpscares to me a few times. he has an owner that lives in front of ours. one time, i was scooping a rice for my lunch then the cat rubbed his body on my feet, it’s tingling me but i stopped him. i don’t know why he comes in our house 😅

He likes to be in your house. Maybe he likes the people in your house better than at his "owners".
My fav part is when my tabby comes and watches tv with me,i never thought i could love a fur baby this much, its like having a baby

Good to know and understand more about them🥰
The sprinting act of these sweet friends was most surprising for me
“She will not hesitate to unleash hell on you”….you talking about #2; biting. Me? LOL😹 Subscribed!✅
Some inaccuracies to clear up: Cats will also lick aka "clean" themselves when nervous, unsure, awkward etc too. Remember, mama cats show affection via face rubbing/head butting. It's a way to show "Hey, you're my human. Love me!" Cats are both predator and prey so they find tight, remote, secluded places so they're safe while napping. All cats are autistic. They need to tap out of the social scene for their own sanity. They purr whenever they feel extreme emotion, detect cancer (they can be trained for pre seizure detection, prevent anxiety attacks etc), attempt to heal themselves or others etc. Also, spraying, can be indicative of an underlying health problems. Cats are actually aquatic by biology. It is a lack of exposure to water that causes most aversions. Kneading is also done as a self soothe. Don't hit kitty for biting. This is will cause them to feel defensive and bite harder. While they often land on their feet, and from higher heights than proportion to their mass, their ability to control the fall varies based on height. Generally, they can controls a fall from one story. However, this is not a reason to test this. Forcing a cat to control a fall from an insane height is cruel, evil. Do not do this unless it's life or death for you and kitty. A good example is if you're trapped in a fire in a multistory building. I know this sounds like common sense but, as a rescuer/foster, you wouldn't believe the level of stupidity/depravity people got to with cats in general. Take care! ❤️🐱🐾🧶😻🙀
Great video!
Sleeping all day… which means they’re up all night snooping around and getting into trouble and keeping me from getting that REM sleep!😂 but she usually purrs me back to sleep 🐈⬛

The cats I have encountered… the birds is a meal… not a friend. Cats are hunters and at times they need fresh meat… rodents. I was raised with a cat, (I know)
Yeah, his comments about cats wanting to "communicate" with birds is absurd. Cats are skilled hunters, and they can decimate bird populations.
I have had many cats bring dead animals, but I have one male who brings bats, rats, lizards birds whatever he finds in the house alive. I can tell by his meowing when he has something have to beat him to close the door.
This was extremely helpful. Thanks!
Cat chattering is so cute. They try so hard to communicate with us humans. Head butting is their way of showing you that they really like you. That is one of their ways of showing affection.
That’s the Gacha Life room 😳 6:24

2:16 uh whenever my cat does this it just means they wanna go outside lol
Cats don't always land on their feet, it depends on the situation. Also, some cats don't ever really land on their feet. We have one of the clumsiest cats I've ever seen. Lol!
I never see a cat didn't land on a feet
Exactly, and thinking cats will always land on their feet is extremely dangerous as many people think therefore it’s not necessary to secure their windows and balconies… I’m a vet and i very often have cats fallen from balconies etc landed on their head or back or hip with horrendous wounds and fractures 😔
Nice video! There is a misconception though. Cats arent nocturnal, they are crepuscular which means they are most active at dusk and dawn. Also cat biting can happen if you use your hand to play hunt with them. You should avoid doing this since they will see your hands as prey and the buting might get worse. Use small critter toys for ground hunting and feather toys for aerial. My cat loves hunting the toys that make a sound when hit, especially the mice on string that squeek when hit or dragged.
Helpful video ❤️❤️
I found a cat at my school who never let anyone touch her but when I came close she let me touch her and she was so adorable 😭💗

Excellent video.
I have to admit I didn't see the whole video but I love my cat's behaviors...they fit me so well I don't have to know the ins and outs of everything but cat's make you feel needed...they give you purpose...and much needed affection...nuff said!
Cats make me feel kneaded.
Contrary to the vid’s assertion that cats hate water, one of my parents’ cats will try to get into the shower whenever a human does. She stands under the water and flexes around, showing she is definitely enjoying it.
Cats have their own personalities. A former roommates cat that was acclimated to bathing was so chill about water. You could put him in the tub, then turn around for something like a towel. When you turned back, the cat was still in the water, just pushing a plastic cat toy around. Now that's desensitization.
Having lived with multiple Siamese cats who loved being in water and would jump in without encouragement, I support your comment. Cats are, like humans, of many personalities and individual traits. Even we who love cats should be careful not to over generalize about them.
When I lived on a lake, there were tons of ducks swimming by us all the time. My cat used to quack at them to say hi to them as they went by
" Sprint ..YOWL stop.. Sprint YOWL Scurry Scurry Scurry. "
