When it comes to what you bite, chew and swallow, your choices have a direct and long-lasting effect on the most powerful organ in your body: your brain. So which foods cause you to feel so tired after lunch? Or so restless at night? Mia Nacamulli takes you into the brain to find out.

  • When I was a teenager and in my early 20’s I used to eat fast food, processed foods (chips, candy, ramen noodles), and sugary drinks. I used to feel awful mentally, physically, and emotionally. After I got pregnant I decided I wanted to change my diet to more healthier foods to help the developing baby. I found that eating right and exercising I felt better and really helped my body adjust to my new life as a mother, plus the baby was so healthy. We still continue to eat healthy to this day

    • @@heroshinx693 The key is finding the foods and flavours you enjoy! You don't need to live a life of leafy greens and quinoa while restricting all sugar and carbs. Find a variety of foods (both sweet and savory) and find a balance that works for you. I struggled for years, despising any healthy people cuz it always was abrasive and felt forced. But once you start listening to what foods your body does and doesn't like, what works for you and become more aware of what you're eating (you don't need to calorie count or do anything other than be more involved and present of what you tend to eat) it goes from forcing healthy eating to eating simply for the nutrition your body needs. I recommend you check out intuitive eating because while I am the "healthy person of my group" I eat just as much "bad things" as those I know, but the difference is that I started eating for myself and to really benefit me, it's made a world of difference with eating. I'm able to enjoy the kale salads and quinoa for the nutrition it gives me, but I also enjoy a refreshing sprite and some occasional M&Ms. Find YOUR balance and I say that's all we need. After all, we were made from and evolved from the non processed foods so while I still enjoy my walmart and Mcydonald's runs, It's always nice to come back to a balanced meal to further fuel myself for the days ahead. Most of this comes not from a "you should stop focusing on processed foods and attempt to replace it with non processed foods" but more of a once I started eating more intuitively and listening to what my body wants and not labeling foods as "good" or "bad" and I started to learn why eating right is important and how foods affect my body, it really made not only overall life more easy and enjoyable but it brought more overall wellbeing to food itself.

    • It's not enough to simply educate but to demonstrate the practically of such information. Children may know that this food is good and that food is bad. Like, "everyone knows a carrot is good for you, and that Doritos are bad," but since me and my friends eat the bad stuff all the time, it's okay, right? Well, no, it isn't. But children won't understand the application of the information. We might need to educate adults / parents on this. Even then, it's worthless if they don't follow up on it. What good is knowledge if we don't use it?

    • @ONLY Romanian: Everything you’re eating explains it all. The video tells you a lot, but if you need extra help, exercising by doing stretches, lightweight lifting, or just some light cardio like 20 to 30 minutes of walking are all highly beneficial. Also seeing a professional dietitian and possibly a physical therapist can help a lot too. But to do these things you have to try. Because unfortunately help can’t simply come to you. You have to get it yourself-no offense whatsoever. Best wishes and lots of hope to you. 🤗✌️

The only reason a cell dies is because poisonous introduced to it . Anything that is put in the mouth is treated as a toxin by the body it doesn’t matter what it is water fruit it doesn’t matter your body treated as a Tocsin. As soon as you put something in your mouth, your body produces mucus to try to expel it from your body. You were on a program A slavery consumerist program You are under mind control You will consume until the day you die Or you can break free from your programming and groupthink detach from all these pleasures that are killing, you heal and actually live as a free person

  • See, if I was taught the reasoning behind why I need to eat healthy as a kid, rather than just being told "cause its good for you" then I probably wouldn't have such an awful, sugary processed food diet. I wish things like this would be explained to kids because I've found that when understanding the "why" to something, its much easier to do/practice. And some people may think this is too complicated for kids to understand, but you would be surprised at how intelligent even kindergarteners can be when info is presented in an interesting and/or fun way.

Sometimes, because of sugar I go in to a small (Sometimes not so small) Depression. and usually the only way to solve it, is to avoid sugar for a while, do some physical activity and try to ingore it and acknowledge its because of sugar.

  • This needs to be taught more, especially to those suffering with mental illness. I’m not a doctor, but from personal experience the ones I have seen suffer with mental illness have a poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Makes a huge difference. Not saying it will cure (although many times it will) and there is always a time and place for medication, but natural remedies and lifestyle changes should be pushed before harsh medication with a list of side effects

I was taking 120 pain pills a month, depression meds., steroid creams for skin rashes and three additional drugs. (I also lost 40 pounds and have kept it off for eight years) Most of us treat our bodies like a city waste facility until our health is taken from us. This is exactly what happened to me. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. And given no hope from the medical Doctors. Now is the time to take care of yourself, before you end up in dire straits as I did.

  • I tried to write it as correct as i could, cause i wanted to analyse it more and learn more about it. there you go for those who need it. How the food you eat affects your brain - Mia Nacamulli Most of the weight of a dehydrated brain comes from Fats, Proteins, amino acids, micronutrients and glucose. The brain is more than just that. But each component distinct impact on functioning, developing, development, mood and energy. Fats: omega 3 and 6 (fatty acids) brain conditions: nuts, seeds and fatty fishes is curtail to the creation and maintenance of cell membrane. While omegas are good for your brain, long term consumption of other fats like trans and saturated fats may compromise brain health. Protein and amino acids are manipulated how we feel and behave. Amino acids contain the precursors to the neurotransmitters, the chemical messengers that carry signals between neurons affecting things like mood, sleep, attentiveness and weight. We feel calm after eating large plate of pasta, or more alert after protein rich meal. Complex combinations of compounds in foods can stimulate brain cells to release mood altering norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. But getting to your brain cells is tricky and amino acids have to compete for limited access. A diet with a range of foods helps maintain a balanced combination of brain messengers and keeps your mood getting squid in one direction or the other. Like the other organ in our bodies, our brain is also benefit of a steady supply of micronutrients. Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables. Strengthen the brain to fight off free radicals that destroy brain cells. Enabling your brain to work well for a longer time. And without powerful micronutrients like the vitamin b6,12 and folic acids. Our brain will be susceptible to brain disease and mental decline. Trace amounts of minerals, iron, zink, cupper and sodium are also fundamental for brain health and early cognitive development. In order for the brain to efficiently transform and synthesize valuable nutrients it means fuel and lots of it. While the humans brain makes up to 2% of our body weight, it uses up to 20% of our energy resources. Most of this energy comes from carbohydrates that our body digest into glucose or blood sugar. The frontal lobes are so sensitive to drops in glucose in fact, that a change in mental function is one of the primery signals. Of nutrient deficiency. Assuming we are getting glucose regularly, how does the specific type of carbohydrates we eat affect our brains? Carbs come in three forms, starch, sugar and fibers. While on most nutration labels they are all lumped into one total carb count the ratio of the sugar and fiber subgroups to the whole amount affect how the body and brain respond. A high glycemic food, like white bread causes a rapid release of glucose in the brain. And then comes the dip. Blood sugar shoots down, and with it, out attention span and the mood. On the other hands, oats, grains and legumes have slower glucose release. Enabling a stedier level of attentiveness. For sustained brain power opting for a varied diet of nutrient-rich foods is critical. When It comes to what you bite, chew or swallow. Your choices have a direct and long -lasting effect on the most powerful organ in your body.

  • I am a male I am 65" tall and weigh about 125 lbs. I work at wal-mart and witness eating atrocities on a daily basis. For lunch every night I will start with a salad, then eat my main course usually consisting of something high in protein ie. salmon or carbs ie. pasta then finish with a dessert of some type of fruit ie. pineapple, mango, or cherries and flush it down with water. I have never seen a single person eat a decent nutritious meal at work. A typical meal for everyone else consists of a bag of chips, a 20 oz bottle of soda (usually not their first one nor last for the night), and some type of frozen meal ie. bagel bites or chicken fingers! Do these people not care or are they just ignorant of what real food is? Great Video BTW!

    • The majority is just ignorant of what real food is. People have been wrongly informed their entire lifes. And if they do know that junk food is not healthy, they do not realise how UNhealthy it is. You eat something unhealthy, but don't feel ill or sick rightaway. You do not notice any adverse results the next day either. So people think 'no harm done'. That their arteries are clogging up and they cannot fight off cancerous cells as well, is not seen. It might take their body 20 to 30 years before the serious damage is seen. And the worst thing is: people pass this on to their kids as well. How to cook and eat healthy should be a mandatory subject in schools for a long enough time. Instead they buy their soda's and chocolate bars in the school's hallway. That should be illegal.

  • It is really interesting how the food actually works in our body. All the responses about how we are feeling most of this feeling, came from the food that we eat. The quality of life doesn’t just include a financial status but also a health diet.

  • One of the best Ted-ed video animations so far; an abundance of details adds more life to the words for visual learners. An example is at 2:22, the two figures walking actually have footsteps softly in the background. I have a lot of respect when it comes to good detail;👌 so good.
