The Samsung Odyssey G5 is an affordable 1440p, curved high refresh rate monitor with a VA panel. It's not particularly great at anything, but it's good at the majority of things.

I don't care about how well it's build or how well I can adjust it, I'm just gonna put it on my desk and not touch it

Exactly. For one I don't see how the stand being plastic means anything at all. As long as it does it's job.

This monitor sounds great to have next to a G7 as second monitor mounted on a arm that doesn't need the same level of performance, but still looks the wholesome together with a G7.
You are actually the first monitor reviewer that nails the balance between technical details and "normal" average joe stuff. Just perfect. Keep it up!

@@BijanJamshidi would you recommend this game for games like battlefront 2
Definitely would like to watch more 1440p monitors reviews.
I've bought two of them, and coming from dual 1080p 60hz monitor I found them great for the price. I couldn't find any other monitors that was curved 1440p 144hz for a cheaper price, plus I plan to eventually go to a triple monitor setup by adding the G7 and having monitors with the same curve would be great. I aggrege nothing special but a good addition to the budget 1440p 144hz curved monitor line up. Edit: I also do recommend a monitor arm, but I would put an arm on almost any monitor regardless of quality.
Yo does it look good when they are 2 stick together
@@anasb2273 Absolutely
@@anasb2273 I have just one but I'd imagine so. The curve rate with 4 of them is a complete circle around you.
Did you end up buying the g7 to put next to the g5? how was it, looking for the same setup.
I've got two of what I assume are the previous model, the Odyssey C32JG56. Started searching for a third, going for flight and space sim (esp. Star Citizen). Couldn't find a third JG56, even as used, and was gonna order this one (I have been wishing to find a JG56 to maintain the same curvature, 1800R, of the monitor setup). G5 is more curved (1000R) than I'd prefer. But, then I came across the Gigabyte M32QC. It is quite similar in specs, only better. Or, so I've been reading. And less aggressively curved (1500R). Price is about the same so I am now thinking of choosing Gigabyte over the G5. Besides, the G5 design does feel cheap, just like the JG56. I only got two of the JG56 as the price was right, Black Friday deal a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the information. Very in-depth yet straight to the point. I do everything but do not like contrast levels of IPS nor TN panels. I game but not competitive I usually play single-player experiences. I usually use a calibrated Samsung TN panel or my big 4k VA hdr tv for media editing and content creation. I guess I'm getting this mostly for gaming and utilizing the full capabilities of my console and PC hardware.
I needed a monitor better suited for fast paced shooters than my AW3418DW and bought the VG259QMY after seeing your review and I love it. Is 2560x1440 2k?
@@rodolfotsang4327 Technically not but many people refer to it as such but 2k is a term only referring to the number of horizontal pixels so any resolution with that number at or close to 2048 is considered 2k like 1920x1080. also 1440p ultrawide 3440x1440 and 1440p super ultrawide 5120x1440 are more demanding than 2560x1440 (which is the resolution people typically mean to when they say 1440p) Resolution is the number of horizontal pixels multiplyed by the number of vertical pixels, fo 2560x1440 is at about 3.6 million pixels while 5120x1440 is 7.2 exactly double the pixel count, for context 4k 3840x2160 is 8.3 pixels meaning running a game at 5120x1440 is nearly as much demanding as running a game at 4k.

I can’t wait for you to hit 100k! I bet before the end of 2021
this is the best review on this screen u can get wow thank you
Hi I also got this monitor, with PC both on display Port and HDMI is ok. When I connect the Google Chromecast via hdmi instead it presents dark tones that make the image unusable, even by raising the maximum brightness and contrast, which are practically not working in this case. Did this happen to you or could you try it? Thanks PS Obviously, on other monitors or TVs, Chrome works fine for me
Ofc, what would you expect at that budget? Titanium Stand or something? They have to cut money somewhere right?
Good stuff as always. Love the monitor reviews, I can understand them and enjoy them at the same time. A monitor I'd love to see you review is the dell s3220dgf. Its also a curved beauty.
Hey dude I get your point, I’m gonna get a Xbox series S and that runs at 1440p 120fps and I don’t want to spend $600 on the G7 spending $300 on the G5 is much more reasonable. I get where your coming from but that’s my point of view, as long as it has the resolution and FPS
But Series S can't handle that resolution at 120, maybe you'll get about 80 or 60 stable
Amazing review!💙
Bijan - Gigabyte G32QC or G5 Samsung 32? hurry up need to order ! looking at available options nearing the ball park i have both stand out. any other model / brand i should look at? i am using MSI MAG322CQRV and LCD got damaged the support / repair structure is HORRIBLE!
I just picked this up at Best Buy for $229.Pulled the trigger because the $299 ViewSonic VX27582KPMHD is never in stock and the Sale price of $329 on the Dell S3220DGF went back to $449. These are my top 3 picks at the moment so I wanted to ask. Which to stick with, this that I got for $229 the $299 ViewSonic if I find one in stock or the $329 Dell if it goes back on sale?
Can it do 1440p/120hz? Lots of monitors have a problem with this also can it accept 4k signal( i know its 2k display) And does it support hdr on xbox?
Which one do you suggest among these Samsung odyssey g5 vs Prism PRISM+ XQ340 PRO?
i know you are a busy man working already on projects and what im gonna say wont look very appealing but there is a new monitor that i couldnt find any info besides the manufacturers that is , its released less than a month before its the AORUS FI25F, 240 hz IPS 1080p that claims super fast IPS 0.4 response time. but from my understanding and reddit searching its like the KD25F but upgraded to the latest techs. with black equalizer aim stabilizer and all that they also brag about their VESA 400 HDR. LOL just something to have in mind :)
I bought this monitor and it isn't very good the picture quality is amazing especially compared to my old TN but the smearing and ghosting is insane doesn't matter what overdrive setting is used

I'm going to buy RTX 3070 or the similar from the side of amd.. I play hyperscape, valorant, warzone, apex.. should I go for a 2k 165hz ips monitor or for a 1080p 240hz ips if the money is not a problem?
How is the motion blur on this compared to the MSI G27C5? I can’t decide between the two.
I have a question: if I lower the refresh rate, let's say around 60hz, do I remove the ghosting?
I got mine shipped to my door same day for $292 tax & shipping included. 1440, 27inch, 144Hz(up'd to 165) can't be beat for the price. Fine me something that ticks those boxes and costs sub $300 all paid.
im thinking to buy this, i play sometimes Competivive games like siege or OW and sometimes i play some Story mode game like Assassins Creed. Is this something for me?
Its a decent monitor, even for competitive shooters. I recommend highly, bought one $400 AUD ($290US) brand new. Just keep it on middle response time to avoid ghosting or inverse ghosting. 4k downscaling on Xbox series X looks fantastic also. Only con is peak brightness, but hey, I'm sure we all have curtains. Current new models also have all the updated firmware so no annoying USB bullshit to allow 4k signal etc. Also, split screen coop is fine viewing angle wise.

Haven't used a nipple button yet , but they seem terrible to use imo. One or two quick hard buttons must also come with monitors for things like source , contrast/brightness modes. Great video 👌
In my opinion, the nipple is the best form of navigation. A lot of monitors don't label the buttons from the front so you have to guess which button does what. Also it's always a pain in the butt when adjusting the picture. I can never remember which button is up, down, or select. The nipple makes it easy because it's pretty much a d-pad.
