The memorybus is actively slowing down the card. In none of the games could the RTX 4050 be utilized to 99%. this is super odd.

Nice gameplay test! Most just show the GPU temp. But u show both the CPU and GPU temp. Thank you!
The wattage is actually more important that the last 3 digits of the GPU type.
Sadly not as much as you think, depending on the series, 40 series laptop cards mainly cap out at 100ish watts, so getting all excited over 140w+ TDPs is mostly useless.
The only reasons i would go for the 40 series is frame generation and for future proof. Wonderful video, thank you.
I feel 30 series is just as future proof as the 40 series. The 3080 is such a good card and won’t be going away for a long time

but be ready to pay as much money as a 70 series laptop for 4050 since the rtx 4090 laptops are almost 4000 bucks, i feel like 4050 laptops would be already 1500 bucks inly for 6gb vram and 4060 laptops for 2000 bucks
@@3ADITYA8F 4090 are in the $4000-6000 range at the time
4060 IS obsolete on launch due to less memory bandwidth. RDR2 and Witcher3 says it loud, also 3d rendering apps will be slow in Vport and in rendering.
Imagine this is the lowest-end GPU in the 4000 series 😲... Great performance.
Actually and specifically, this is the 2ND among 4050s, we also have the 45W version of this GPU, which by far the lowest lvl of 4050
So it 8s 5 months later and there are bios updates available... the description of them is rather limited. Do they have an impact?

I am impressed of laptop cooling, around 70C and 50W on CPU is amazing. I thought cooling was bad. I have a MSI GE 65 but my temp is not that good
Yeah the Katanas cooling system is pretty neat!
The non thin chassis made improvements last year with an added copper pipe. This year, I think it went with less but larger copper pipes

@@iraklimgeladze5223 probably down to more efficient GPU. Less heat from GPU means the shared heat pipe is not so overwhelmed. It could also be that the heat pipes are just arranged more efficiently

Do you know if the stuttering problem has been fixed?
I think it may be a ram memory problem, since in another case with another asus laptop with an i5 and an rtx 3050 TI I have several stutter problems and it was only solved by changing the memories for others from another brand other than the standard ones . In any case, your stutter is too serious compared to mine and it may be an nvdia or msi problem, however it is worth trying what I tell you. Greetings and great video.
When you did this test did you do any laptop optimisation out of the game such as putting it as high performance and stuff like that.
Yeah. Updated Bios and Drivers. Used Performance Mode and ramped up the fans to 100%.

How do you keep your cpu temp so low? I got the same laptop , but my cpu always hits the 90s celcius with some games, it camt be dust or dried up thermal paste cause i bought mine a week ago
1. Room temperature was 20 degrees back then (German winter). 2. Used a laptop stand. If you don't have one, try to lift the end of the laptop 2-4 cm up with a book or something similar, to enable some air under the laptop.
Can you please make a video of the rtx 4050 140W tested in 20 games? I want to see if the machine is capable of running Cyberpunk at Ultra settings with FG and RT on. 🙏
The difference between 105W and 140W is insignificant, the gain will be at most 2-3 fps/.

It does make noise in games. Like almost every gaming laptop. It's hearable. 6gb is enough for lighter games and newer games on medium settings and lower resolutions. It will be an issue in new games on high settings and more and more upcoming games.

@@user-fv5tk8jr7g some will work on high as well. For some 6GB vram might not be enough. DLSS can help a bit though.

Richtig geraten. Gute Frage... Die 3060 falls der Laptop wesentlich günstiger ist. Prinzipiell aber eher die 4050 da Frame Generation und DLSS schon fein ist... Gibt derzeit auch wohl nen günstigen rtx 4060! Laptop (gigabyte)
Vielen Dank für deine Antwort. Ich habe einen Laptop mit RTX 4050 gefunden für 1'679 Franken/Euro (Euro und Franken haben mittlerweile ungefähr den gleichen Wert) mit WQHD Display und 240 HZ. Ausserdem hat er eine 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM und einen Intel Core i7 13650HX. Es ist der Asus ROG Strix G16. Meinst du das Preis/Leistungs Verhältnis stimmt?
Did you try ray tracing and dlss frame generation in cyberpunk? I'm qurious to know if that has a playable framerate on the 4050 laptop
Would absolutely work if you tweak the settings so that 6gb vram are big enough. So no max settings. But defenitely doable with dlss and FG
@@Hubwood Thank you, I want a 4050 laptop. I like lower powered GPU's for laptops. Gaming in silence is better than the best visuals and a jet engine under my fingers lol.
@@CuttinInIdaho Low Powered GPU doesn't mean less noise. Becuase the cooling system is usually weaker. What you could do is get a "regular" powered Laptop and heavily undervolt it. THEN it will stay silent and still provide some performance!

Uhm nope. I have comparison videos online. Check them out. The 4050 is MUCH faster than the 3050.
I had a chance to test a ASUS ROG Strix G16 Intel Core i5 16GB DDR5 RAM 512GB SSD NVIDIA RTX 4060 at my local retailer and there is a similar stutter problem not just a MSI issue it could be a Nvidia driver problem or it is the small memory bus issues. If you are a 4K gamer don`t use a new RTX 4000`s lower then the 4080 there is just to much of a memory bandwidth problem and it looks like Nvidia are trying to disguise the fact that the Generational Performance increase with the RTX 4000`s series is very low compared to last gen by using dlss 3 frame generation in it`s marketing. That said dlss 3 frame generation is a good way to get extra fps on low end GPU`s but do not expect Miracles and don`t over pay for it money wise.

Thank you. Hope the same performance and fps will be on Loq 12450, 4050. I'm pretty shocked about temperatures less 80 in AAA games. 4050 shows really amazing performance. Why do we need to pay more for 4060 ? On the one hand I'm asking myself do I need to overpay +100 euro for the same LOQ but with the 4060 ? 4050 is really good even in AAA games. On the other hand need to be a dambass to save 100€ and not to buy more powerful 4060 when you have already pay 1100€ for laptop with 4050. what do you think?
Hm ID say it's worth the extra 100 actually. 2GB more and around 15-25% faster... For only 10% more...

So, there is stutters in RDR2 in a 4000 series card. I was planning to buy it but now seems itll also be a waste.
Nono no. That was THIS MSI Katanas problem. Other laptops did NOT have that issue.

21 degrees. And it was on a laptop stand without activated Fans.
Did you use the standar ram? If so, the ram might be the x16 variant so that's why there's quite a noticeable stutter. edit: does this laptop has advance optimus as well? maybe turning off hybrid mode of some sort would get better experience.

Nvidia is just keeping frame generation for 40 series as a excuse for people to buy them. People on the internet modded the inf files and got frame generation working on rtx 20 series GPUs if nvidia could just unlock it for all GPUs with tensor cores it would be great
They defenitely should do that. But despite that the 4050 is actually alot faster than it's predecessor the rtx 3050. Even without FG.
frame time is higher with frame generation on, im not sure why because i dont really understand how frame generation works, but having it on increase frametime, and in this video on apex legend frametime isn't that bad since the doenst have frame generation, but its 2 months old video, i think you figure it out by now
Frame TIME is consistently higher as the input lag increases by around 10ms. BUT the frametimes graph and the smoothness is better.
How is the fan sound while gaming ?
Actually okay when you're not using full power on the fans. With some tweaking in the msi center you can surely get it even lower.

No. These benchmarks are all while plugged in.
x16 RAMs btw? Well you could still tighten the timings via MSI advanced bios for that, right? Also stutters, big chance could be due to low bus width (96). Hopefully that's not the case and only due to slow RAM or not fully optimized drivers.
Nope. You can't tighten the timings Ina laptop usually. And you can't in the MSI Katana...
Maybe if u try limit fps then u can fix stuttering.. right?

Rtx3050 play valhalla in 4.1gb vram in high-ultra setting but why 4050 taking 6gb????
RTX 3050 would also take 6GB if it could. But it only has 4GB of VRAM. So it has to use parts of your "regular" system ram aswell. Hence it's alot slower FPS wise.

No, they also appear in games without FG (Forza, RDR2 etc.) actually frame generation helps avoiding them. The frametimes graph gets smoother)
Bus width isn't the issue here 3050 is 128 bit using 12 gbps G6 resulting in 192 GB/s bandwidth 4050 is 96 bit but using 16 gbps G6 resulting in the same 192 GB/s bandwidth. The 3050 also had only 2 mb L2 cache. The 4050 has 12 MB. I recommend a fresh windows install as MSI has a lot of bloatware.
guys my laptop is the same but in valorant have only 120 -160 fps usage is 20% and wats on 20 i already tried everything but no works other games is good but in valorant still bugged
I have no idea. I actually often had that issue with valornt aswell. On some systems, it just won't use the full Power of the System.

That's up to you. Me personally I don't think on a 15 inch screen more Pixel make thatuch sense... 17 inch screen... Maybe... But still. A matter of personal taste. I don't really need it...

That's an issue of the 4050,4060 and 4070. In games they mostly don't boost above 90-100w. This Gpu in this laptop is a 85w - 20w dynamic boost Gpu. But even the 140w version won't be faster really... I also have a video in which I talk about the issue with the 4050/4060/4070. Check it out

@@wesleysniper10000 that's how Nvidia decided to handle these cards this year. It's stupid. Watch my video, I explain this ;) It's called "the issue with the rtx 4050 mobile"
Yeh the criminally bad memory bit bus is certainly causing problems and will only continue to cause problems going forward. All of these 4050/4060/4070 options are crippled by their constrained vram and abominable memory bit bus (my 3070 has DOUBLE the memory bit bus of the 4070, 256 vs 128). For most people they will be better off going for 3060/3070/3070ti instead, especially if the prices/deals are better.
It is weird, the 3070 still seems to be the sweet spot
Nvidia seems to have bet on “more efficiency & newer tech” rather than respecting core physics like the bus length 😮
still 3050 is a joke on a laptop 4050 is already an improvement that skipping 3050 is a good idea

Been looking to upgrade my older 1060 6gb dell g3, looked into 3060 but they draw so much more power and the lower class 3050 hardly better than 1060. Hopefully the 4050-60 is the upgrade I waiting for, if not the 5050 is the time I do it, if they won't be overpriced.
4050 and 4060 would give you noticable upgrade that would make sense. BUT you might want to consider waiting a few weeks until prices drop or deals appear ;)
they have better dlss and fsr also possibly better rt which is important if your gaming recents smtms look awful wo it even 20yrs before game look better

No that's not possible to my knowledge as of now. Maybe msi will fix this. Maybe not. Dynamic boost only works when the cpu doesn't need alot of wattage.
