  • You know, instead of a loft, something you could do is put something like a murphy bed into the extension, so you can sleep there but also still have space when you close the bed away. It does mean you'd need to clear space to bring the bed down at night, but that could be a positive, as you'd immediately have a big clear space in the morning when you fold the bed up. You could also build cabinets off the side of the murphy bed as storage, and build the whole thing so that it could be moved into a future guest room space in the new future house.

  • I think your temporary house will look amazing when finished. I do think you should try and fit in a separate bed area for yourselves though, even if it’s just a fold down one. The boys are getting bigger and need their own space but the most important thing is to make the separation anxiety easier, the longer you are all together the harder it will be when you eventually move to your permanent home. You are doing a fabulous job in the garden Tara. ❤️xx

  • I've just returned from spending a Month in Portugal , watching your channel peaked my curiosity , we travelled from one end to the other , started in Lisbon and worked our way to Porto , concentrating on the small villages along the coast as well as way up in the mountains . What a wonderful trip it was , we saw a lot of rain but carried on and marvelled at all the different elevations people have settled on and have remained for generations . The old stone building still standing to the cobble stone streets , the orchards of oranges and lemons and rows and rows of grapevine in huge patches growing up the mountains , I felt like I was constantly walking uphill . I certainly get why you've decided to settle there , such a beautiful country filled with so much history and good clean air for raising your boys .

As you have more room the beds can be separated into twins. If John makes them, the top bunk can be lower than normal. I hope the poultry wire works for your peas. My peas didn’t like it.

  • I love your videos and watching you both working together and on your own projects but all is for the farm and the amazing lifestyle you have. Tara, I am keen to see how your ‘no till’ garden works out, I am a fan of crop rotation and growing ‘green’ manure to be dug into the soil and break down for the next food crop. I am also very interested to see if you will be using any natural insecticides to combat the grubs and bugs that were enjoying your crops last year. In the past I have mixed Vegemite with warm water and sprayed on plants with aphid infestations and the spray has drawn in ladybirds to eat the aphids. John, the build is looking great, glad you have scrapped the mezzanine idea.

  • hi John and Tara! Because of your slogan, be brave, think big, explore, it got me thinking outside the box. What do you think about building an enclosed connection between your existing house and the one you’re adding onto? It would solve the two bedroom situation without having to build the addition John is working on right now and you wouldn’t have to move the kitchen. You could do all that once the actual planning has gone through and the building commences for the new structure. My husband and I have built two homes, two barns and garages and we are in the process of building our third home for retirement. I think the boys would love it !

  • My just my thought, as a mom. Your boys are getting older and as such, more aware and will be more so before you're ready to move into your larger house. (They are so bright! More so than most kids their age, really because of the way you are educating them). So I think a mezzanine, where you would have some privacy at night would be beneficial for you two as well as the children. It wouldn't have to be very high especially if you were to build it so it was a little over 6"3' where you have to stand to dress, and slanting down over the bed. I'm no builder, and don't know if that would be too hard to design and build, but I know, John, that you have the talent to do it. Sorry for such a long comment.

  • Hi Tara and John, Im no expert far from it but watch a lot of renovations videos specially the one from UK where a lot of old barns and cottages have been converted. Why not join your existing home to this stone cottage via a glass bridge walk way so you have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms? Just a thought. !!!

    • Hi Farah, thanks for the suggestion. We are going to be knocking the house down that we are currently living in, we need to knock it down in order to have the space for our new house so a walkway won't work 🪵🫛🙏🏼❤️🇵🇹

  • How I loved “being in” your garden today. And “feeling” the fresh air and blue sky. Absolutely wonderful. You’ve given me a whole lot of inspiration to get out and prepare my garden for summer vegetables. Would love to know if you are able to keep the rodents away and not strip your garden of vegetables before you can eat them And the addition is coming along spectacularly! Love the smell of fresh cut lumbar!

  • John, you come up with such great ideas and are not afraid to just go ahead and build. I love watching your ideas pan out. Tara, you have so much patience. Taking all those peas and connecting them to the fence is stressful as those little vines don't always do what you want them to do. You will have a great garden.

We have watched the boys growing up and Crusoe with his battery tools reminded us of our grandson Luke with his tools like that. He is now 30 and he has his own business building houses. Keep up the great work. We hope your house building goes well and best wishes . Lyane and Bob ❤

  • My motto in gardening is: get in there and grow! Most things will grow, do not fret. You should look at no dig gardening. Easy and plentiful. You are both doing so well. Building up a farm in a foreign land is never easy, all those regulations and odd customs to take into account.
