Very helpful! Action items: 1. Prep phone: 1a. See if local vet/shelter/animal control scan injured/deceased cats for microchip to notify family. 1b. If YES, get their phone #, address, & hours. 2. Prep car: 2a. Invest in dash cam. 2b. Keep spare carrier & supplies (blanket, clean sock, etc.) in car. 2c. Add list of tips from video: If alive (breathing, heartbeat behind elbow/side of chest): - Apply pressure to profuse bleeds. - Clear nostril blood clots/airway. - Keep cat still, flat, & quiet. - Cover with blanket (head out). - Sweep blanket under cat. - Hold cat close to my body. - Support cat's body with my arms. - Place securely in carrier. - Call & go to nearest open vet. If not alive: - Take body to nearest location that will scan for chip. 3. Post-Emergency: Signal Boost! 3a. Join local lost/found pet communities on social media (Facebook, NextDoor, etc.). 3b. Create/share a template those communities can use (to post when the situation arises) with fields for describing the hurt/deceased cat, what occurred, where it happened, where the cat was taken, and who the family can contact for more info.
I remember one time in the early hours of the morning I was behind a car that hit a dog. The car JUST kept driving! This dog was a medium sized dog. I stopped my car in the middle of the road, put my hazards on …it was early so it was no traffic …I checked to see if the doggo had a tag and he did. I called the owner and waited until she got there and she took her doggo. I hope he was ok. Yes I was totally shocked and didn’t even think to move the dog to the side of the street or take the owner’s number to see if he made it. It was traumatic!

thank you for this video. it happened to me, i noticed the poor critter in the middle of the road, quickly dragged her off road, and called for help. she's been conscious for a little while, she was badly hitten, half paralysed, and then she went before the vet arrived. he said that at least i was there. i'll never forget her.
I am so sorry you went through that 💔 I really believe that you help her by being there with her. As an animal rescuer I’ve been with so many as they died to help them cross the rainbow bridge and sadly I’m probably going to help many more in my future and it’s so devastating, but I believe that the best thing we can do is to try and learn from each tragic moment to hopefully use that tragic experience to help others in the future. I believe we should all try to be there for each other and that no one should die alone. You were there for her in her last moments so she didn’t have to be alone and I know she felt your love 💔💔💔 Thank you for doing what you did and as hard as it was, at least she wasn’t alone. Unfortunately, sometimes that is the only thing we can do, please know that you helped her so much by being there with her 💔💔💔 and now you watched this video, so you took a tragic moment and did what you could to learn from it. Thanks for your heartful reply, it's been almost a year when that accident happened, and of course I was and partly still am heartbroken and couldn't help myself from feeling guilty, you know, the usual stuff, I should've wasted no time, I should've brought her to the vet, I should've talked to her more instead of cursing the world or waiting on the phone... It's terrible, terrible thing... People like you are the real heroes. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and your experiences. Apparently I much needed them. @@MrAILP I know how hard it is not to feel the guilt. I feel that way too but, I try to tell myself to take this terrible situation and try to learn from it. If I can learn something and try to do better in the future, that’s what I try to hold onto. Thank goodness I have actually been able to use what I’ve learned to save more lives because of what those sweet tiny souls I’ve lost have taught me, that has helped me to keep doing what I can for all that come find me that need help. This might sound stupid but, when I save a life because of a previous life I wasn’t able to save, I thank them for helping me save this life. I tell the one I just saved about the one that passed away and I tell them that they are the reason I was able to help and save them. Sometimes it extremely hard to keep helping others but I tell myself, they came and found me for a reason and I tell myself, I take on this pain to hopefully lessen the pain of others. Life is pain but if we can find meaning in our pain and help others that is why we are here, to help each other through. I don’t know if any of that helps you but I hope it does somehow. Life is very difficult and heartbreaking sometimes but if we help each other through it then hopefully it will be less painful and heartbreaking then doing it alone 💔💔💔

@darthnight1 Honey, THE VETS I have known! l’ve been lucky, & broken hearted… Felix wasn’t the first PUSSO l saw hit 😢; l’ve taken other PUSSOZ & a young beautiful young healthy German Shepherd ( no I.d!!! 😡😨) to a vet after the accidents. The vets l know never charged me, & l would have paid & taken them. They rang me back, to let me know how they did, each one. Different vets too! YOU HAVE TO HAVE A HEART. I’m so grateful to them. ❤️❤️❤️😻🐶🐱…..
It depends on the city you live in and the rescue organization availability. Ask your vet how it is handled in your location. Some rescues will treat injured animals and are able to exist because of generous donations.
