  • Yes it's definately a turbine engine, so the 64k rpm isn't too far off. I wouldn't want to pay for the fuel to run that. Granted JP5/4/8 is just high grade diesel but those turbines burn through it at ridiculous rates, on a track he would be fueling up every other lap or after each drag.

  • Why thumbs down? Look, at the end of the 'race' did you see how fast the Ferrari stopped? Not only that, listen to it when the guy is driving, there is no way he is even near red line. When racing you should try to get close to the red line. Come on..

  • I agree, the Ferrari wasn't shifting in the top of the rotation of the motor. All we have to do is put the passions aside and watch this things with a pure critical sight. After all, there's no reason to be angry with the fact that one of them has lost. It's just for fun.

  • a turbocharger (turbo) increases the atmospheric pressure going into the piston engine. A turbine is what a jet engine is. I'd call this a turbine engine

  • Amazing how few people have taken the time to learn about what they are criticising.... It is a jet turbine, though this one has power take off and chaindrive. So it is wheel driven.

    • Actually, you are wrong... I know this is 5 years old, but this is a "Turbo Shaft" engine. So yes, it is a turbo. The jet engine drives a turbine. The turbine drives the wheels direct drive. Turbo, is short for turbine....

  • It seems he may be using a compact turboshaft engine,a certain variation of another engine known as a gas turbine,not to be confused by any means with a turbocharged gasoline engine.Usually,bigger turboshafts and gas turbines are used in modern civilian and military helicopters.

  • No actually the real reason is the Torque. The ferrari has 275 lb/ft of torque at 4750 RPM while on the otherhand the turbo kart has 300 lb/ft of torque at 0 RPM. I agree with the massive weight difference also.

  • I new F1 cars went up to 20,000 rpm but dang a freakin turbo kart winding up to 64k+ RPM's what the heck is the compression ratio on that beast. thats sick.

  • If the cart is on then the comressor blades are spinning. Just like the engine in the Ferrari is on. Read how a turbine works when used with a drivetrain. The thrust from the turbine spins up another turbine which connects mechanically to a drivetrain. So tecnically the output turbine would be sitting on 0, even though the engine is running at 65000RPM.

  • Well as this is a turbo that is converted into a turbine engine (essentially the same thing except turbo in a car runs off exhaust gasses) this engine is probably running off kerosene as do real engines if im right. It works by blowing out highly combusted air so the engine does not drive the wheels. You can measure the turbo boost in PSI or the turbine thrust in lbs.

  • @Heeeineee when an after-burner is equipped on a turbine, not a turbo, fuel is dumped into the exhaust stream from the back of the turbine to give more thrust, not horsepower

  • @Heeeineee compare turbines with turbochargers. a turbo is exhaust driven from a motor. a turbine is the motor for a jet. not to mention the shape and how each works. there is only one thing that is the same is that they both suck air in and compress it. a turbocharger packs air into an intake manifold. a turbine sucks air in, mixes it with fuel ignites it and kicks it out at a higher velocity from the super heated air.

  • go-kart won hands down cause the go-kart's hp:lb ratio is 100:220 plus the rider is more like 100:400. while the farrari's ratio is 400:3064. so in the end go-kart: 100:400 = 1:4 Farrari: 400:3064= 1:7.66 In English, the go-kart has one horse to pull 4 lb, while the Farrari has one horse to pull 7.66 lb, so this is the math to why the go-kart would win.

  • indeed the turbines can and they do, a real turbo can also hit 64k or 100k and even twice that depending on what turbo, hence the need to not turn off turbo engines immediately after revving up the motor...

  • How exactly does that work and what type of fuel does it use. Does it use Methyol Alcohol and Nitromethane? If thats the type of fuel it uses i think i have a better idea of how it works. It's freakin sick though.I've seen 4 wheelers outrun 5.0 mustangs but that no comparasin to this video.

  • doesn't matter what kind of car it is, if you shift at redline its guaranteed to have a better acceleration rate than shifting at 4 grand. unless of course you own a diesel it makes sense to shift at 4 grand because that is your redline. my car doesnt redline until 6800rpm and i know if i shift at 4 compared to 6800 there's a major difference in acceleration in that next gear.

  • the 2-stroke one-gear 125cc (used to) go at around 23,000 (now they are limited to 16,000) now if you have a 4-stroke or any other (smaller or bigger) engine.. it's up to the designer of the engine...

  • Good try with the sound design and stuff. Just need to work with placing that unnatural "zweee" sound consistently. The shot in the ferrari right after the start off has that sound, but the helmet cam shot doesn't. Good school film project material though.

  • You can make a gas turbine from a turbocharger. Plus, its much cheaper to make a gas turbine from an old truck turbo than it is to buy a model/RC gas turbine off the shelf.

  • The cart has insane acceleration, but that wasn't no 8500 rpm upshift. Would be surprised if he topped 6500 rpm. The ferrari wasn't going all out.

  • I believe the kart could be faster but the video was a poorly staged ad/plug for turbokartdotcom. Notice when they passed the finish line (supposititiously 1/4 mile) they had stopped and were already turning around within 30 yards. In other words, they were not going fast at al, if you couldn't already tell.
