  • Amazing bravery. Unless you have actually driven a very fast open topped car you just cannot appreciate just how f'in scary it is! It's at that point you realise how falsely secure you feel in a hardtop car. It changes your appreciation of fast driving FOREVER. One of the best Nurburgring videos I've seen to date!

    • Fully agree. Especially if you look at how weak the windshield on a caterham is and you realize, than the only thing that prevents you from getting decapitated is the rollbar behind you, in case you flip the car over.

    • IS good, but perhaps not too good for the car, often get the curve too fast and the back of the car tends to go out, the tires cries very loud and almost three times was near to lost the car, anyway, is not an easy to drive car and the guy do a great job considerin he is running on the "the green hell". who surely have want to kill the salesman have been the guy in the Porsche

    • That one, on a car so light, is indeed very very difficult. It is not enough to just lift the throttle a bit and match the steering with the car swiveling, you have to match _everything_ to get back to traction _and_ going forward. Also, it took _two_ corrections, that's terrifying.

I was so immersed in the race that I almost pooped myself! I would not be able to recover from that and that is the kind of off that gives me the willies, flicked around by physics after the first correction.... yikes.

  • What a beast! What a tremendous race! Caterham wins the curves and the tight places, the Porsche just holds its own there, and then (sometimes) reels the Caterham in on the long straights. The number of times the Caterham breaks loose and slides is hair-raising, frankly, but the driver is simply magnificent. If the R500 were more aerodynamic, perhaps it'd win those straights too. Scary fast car! Hats off from this Yank to the Brits!

    • 1) you are not a racer because you cant spell Porsche 2) the Caterham lost (i know you cant understand it cause your brain says otherwise) 3) the ebast is the car with more horsepower. the caterham is a flea 4) you can prefer the caterham on cities and so, you can prefer the porsche on autobahn. and you can use both on scenic roads.

    • +Experimental Student - It's pretty clear that this man can drive, so I would say calling it "a hair away from death" is a bit much. If it was me driving and it happened, then yes I would be the first to admit that I'd just poked death with a shitty stick and run off. As a side note - Caterhams do have roll bars

      @neilscrivener5011@neilscrivener50118 жыл бұрын
    • Neil Scrivener Just because he is a good driver and most importantly he has a lot experience, but it's not too much, a couple of degrees more on the landing angle and the Caterham would roll over and that windscreen would go fast, so death would be a 50/50 possibility.

I find it interesting to watch the R500 just dominate the Porsche in the tight spots yet as soon as the Porsche has a chance to get above 140 it just walks away. Very good comparison on how choosing the right weapon for the job means everything.

  • Colin Chapman my have been a unpleasant fellow in real life, but you have to give credit to the man on the Lotus 7 design(Caterham clone of). What is truly remarkable about the Caterham is not the grip levels but how the chassis and suspension performs once the grip has failed. I know it looks like its on the limit but actually its beyond the limit on its little skinny tyres, of course it takes a driver who has balls to see it through but the Caterham is pretty forgiving, I know because I use to track day one a few years ago, all the more impressive considering the Lotus 7 is a late 1950's design.

    • Indeed. In the 60s he said he would build an openwheeler that was so light it would literally fell apart going across the finish line. There are many drivers still alive today who could attest to that. Also, every car he built was a bit different to the others, even in the same category. So when you bend your Lotus at an historic meeting its not enough to order replacement parts becausethere is no guarantee they will fit

In einem Langstreckenrennen ist spätestens nach 10 Runden ein Abflug fällig, da diese Diskontuinitäten im Renntempo/am Limit nicht immer ausgeglichen werden können. • 2:11 holy shit! I could hear the sound of the brass balls clanging together! 😂 On a serious note, amazing driving!!! Definitely the most exciting onboard I’ve seen from the ring, awesome! Also congratulations on finding a Porsche driver at the ring who was a good sport and let you pass! 😂

  • Man - that 4 wheel drift at 3.50 was heroic! That last little flick coming out of the Karussell made me wince ... awesome performance. Mind you, remembering blowing up my own K series there made me wince too :(

  • Colin Chapman was a genius car designer and builder. The driver of this little car is giving the Porsche driver fits. I wonder if after this video was shot, the Porsche driver had nightmares seeing that Caterham in his rearview mirror? Kudos to the Chaterham driver. This is the most skilled driver video of any I have seen shot at the Ring. Wicked skills.

  • Fantastic piece of driving, really wanted to see a video of the Caterham from the GT2's perspective. Show's just how good the Porsche is too.

  • The Caterham needs fatter rubber to stay put. Still, an awesome machine. Gets the Porshe in tight spots but looses in the long straights. Great on board video and big thanks for not adding music.

  • Riuscire a guidare al massimo una Caterham in questo modo, richiede una abilità da vero Pilota. Uno dei giri migliori su Nurburgring mai visto.
