I think Jeremy’s last remarks on the land cruiser in the studio basically described the modern SUV craze. People liked the height and comfort, but didn’t need the low-range gearbox and terrain adapting suspension, and so car company’s simply make these big cars often without even a mention of off-roading anymore

In UK “PRADO “is know as “LAND CRUISER” And land cruiser is known as “amazon”

Ah, not quite. In UK, prado is a foreign spec import landcruser and amazon is the top of the range v6/v8 land cruiser. All UK landcruisers are landcruisers with model names added ie, colerado, vx, amazon etc. If we see 'PRADO' on a landcruiser in the UK its generally a jap import.

I find it so funny that people can't get over the fact cars have different names in different markets, you'd think they would be used to it with most Japanese imports having different names,

I picked up a 120 prado 2 years ago for 10k with 200k on clock hasn't missed a trick and destroys mountains it's even in the latest james bond movie . Thankyou very much

It is a landcruiser just a different branch just like the troopy they are all landcruisers just different types.

A skimpy review by Jeremy so I'll try to add a little detail. Incidentally I'm a 72 y.o. 'petrol head' having owned wide ranging vehicles of various types the only common theme being all good quality - from saloons to say my Dodge Viper. I have hopefully settled on the Land Cruiser as being my last vehicle. I bought a 2004 3 litre diesel a year ago which I'm gradually fully restoring to a high standard without going to a 'body off level.' It has done 92.000m. and has a full service history from new. I'm a retired professional so could have paid more for a vehicle. I chose this car for its quality and value, with a capacity to embark on several day angling explorations and sleep on a full single mattress. Price is always relative to how much you ultimately spend on renovating and most every 20 y.o. vehicle needs significant expenditre whatever the service history and MOT records assure! I paid £ 8,500. and have budgeted £ 4,000. for repairs. BRIEF REVIEW; On this older model there are distinct benefits: The 3rd row of seats lift out in seconds. Not the case on some later models. The second row fold forward reasonably easily but do not fold into the floor. The massive spare tyre is nicely stowed onto the rear fifth door which makes it easily accessible, and it does not take up space. But it takes a while getting used to seeing it in the rear view mirror. The seats are comfortable and the adjustable suspension provides a nice ride. The large wheels provide some security against wheel damage from pot holes. One sits high which is nice, but it's not an easy climb into the vehicle. The controls are over complex, and despite possibly three or four heating switches one has to dive into the impossible to use sat nav. system (see forums) in order to access air con. Enter such a complex world at your peril! Normal steady road use (65mph) returns a respectable 30 mpg. Carefully check for under body rot. It WILL be there in the soaking wet UK even if never driven off road. Simply because virtually no-one maintains their underbody until forced to do minimum work due to an MOT test! There is a weak one inch wide line which runs the full length of the rear bumper. Remove the rear bumper and explore in there could easily result in an £800. welding charge due to otherwise invisible major damage which could result in rear floor collapse. There are two parallel start batteries. Ensure that you know how to maintain them.

Recently bought a high mileage but One Owner from new. I paid 5k and have budgeted an initial 2k for two new High Amp batteries, an new set of tyres (£1k for the above two items), a reserve set of maintenance/servicing items with and a small back up fund in case things go wrong. I also budgeted in Toyota's fully comprehensive recovery service and will be purchasing something like a NOCO 10 for battery maintenance as we can go weeks without driving. We won't be complaining too much if over the next two years we have to spend another £1500 as it's a good solid car that should last a lifetime if well looked after.

@@ubernoob103 it is infact a land cruiser. The Toyota LandCruiser Prado was Toyota's medium duty 4wd wagon like the medium duty Hilux ute. The LandCruiser 40, 60, 70, 80 series were Toyota's heavy duty line up. The only heavy duty vehicles now are the 76, 78 and 79 series LandCruisers. The 100, 200 and 300 series are all rated medium duty just like the LandCruiser Prado 90, 120 and 150 are. So the Prado name is infact just an addition to the LandCruiser name to differentiate between their 4wd vehicles that were built for agriculture, mining or general commercial use and the vehicles that were built for consumer use. The 70 series lineup has been the only true commercial grade LandCruiser that's been made since the 40 series vehicles. The others are just reliable family 4wds.
