  • Urchin meat is very soft, like tofu. But is really sweet. The creamy texture melts in your mouth. It's the fruit of the sea.I wish I could have it everyday.

  • Oh man.. I love eating these. I currently live in the Philippines and my house is near the beach, every sunday, me and my friends go out on a small boat or "bangka" as what we call it and go out to sea and dive underwater to get as many urchins as we can find but our urchins are smaller compared to those things which are HUGE..

  • It tastes better than you believe at first. Its sweet tasting like once it melts into the roof of your mouth and then has the texture and consistency of sweet cream. That's the part that makes you enjoy it. It's so similar to butter that's why it's been used on top of dishes that can be enhanced with a cream like pasta, stuffed scallops in the shell, wagu beef strips, etc.

  • I loveee sea urchin, you can consider the texture as buttery, slightly grainy, smooth and slightly gamey but not slimey. It goes well with sushi or as sashimi, slightly salty, ocean taste, need just very minimal amounts of dipping into soy sauce. Please give this a try if you haven’t! (Also I hear Vietnamese in the background) xD

  • Here in Asturias (north of Spain) we eat them too (we say them "oricios") and they are a bit smaller. In some restaurants they serve cooked and in others simply raw. For me their taste and texture is much better crude. But of course, japanese people always going a step further, preparing them with aesthetic skills and carefully. Here they go from fish box to plate most of the times. You break them in half with two forks and eat all what you find inside :D

  • I Remember as a child (now i'm 48) the taste of Sea orchins, pretty savory and little sweetish. They told me they were the eggs of that creature. See orchins were picked up near a beach. They were of Two kinds: ordinary and "Royal orchins", these ones were bigger, i rember. I Remember that beach was full of their shells, and they were light green.
