10 WIDE SEMI TRUCK DRAG RACE: • FAST Semi Trucks INVAD...
The Great Lakes Big Rig Challenge is an event we've wanted to attend ever since seeing videos emerge in 2018. Onaway Speedway built this 700ft long uphill drag strip specifically for Big Rig Racing and it is the only uphill drag strip in the United States. Though relatively new to the United States, Big Rig Racing has been going on in Québec, Canada for over 3 decades.

  • "So much torque, the chassis would twist coming off the line." -Dom Torreto

    @75Beef@75Beef Жыл бұрын
    • welp ive had chassis twist and thats just something some cars do . some cars just do it and its not a bad thing and some twist and they are shot. Then you have cars that are sub frame. when you get power subframe connectors and or a cage helps from twisting. big thing needed on foxes and convertible cars

    • Back in 98' Me and a few cousins stuffed a Chrysler 440 in a 65' Ford Falcon. The 440 was a HiPo from 1970...3 2barrel Holleys, heads, exhaust, few other goodies. Made well over 400hp and probably 600+ lb ft and in a car that only weighed a lil over 2000lbs it was the fastest thing around at the time. To make a long story short...it took us about 3 weeks of giving her hell to notice how bad the frame was bending. Did we care?...not really lol. My brother fell asleep behind the wheel and put the falcon in a ditch about a year later. We yanked the 440 out and put it back in a Barracuda. Motor ran strong for about 4 years till she blew.

I totally agree with you that the odds of them not snapping the drive line somewhere is insane luck, based in skill, or somewhere between.

  • As a driver, I know how crucial that 4-5 shift is when loaded. That’s why here you’ll see guys bog down towards the big end just before the hill - you have to switch to high range and if you don’t get the revs just right, you can miss the gear or break something. In a stock truck when bobtailing, you *can* start off the line in 4th, maybe 5th without stalling if you know how to sync the clutch and throttle. I would love to give this a try one day.

Seeing as most of the trucks in this video are shifting H pattern transmissions, it is not unreasonable to assume they are using 13 or 18 speeds, which is what I was referring to with regards to shifting to high range and bobtail off the line.

  • This was a wicked reminder of when I was a kid. My dad used to bring his longnose 60 series peterbilt to my high school and leave huge, solid black strips up the parking lot on friday when he would come home for the weekend. Teachers and principals used to clap and cheer as we tore it up. Long live the Semi.
