  • The guy that got through was the only guy who had the tread of the tire the opposite direction. Physics play a huge roll in this. By switching the direction of the tread it scoops the mud to the center of the tire making it stand more on top of the mud rather the scooping the mud to the sides digging a hole. Its why they can reverse and still move after they've gotten stuck going forward.

    • I know right!? I've never understood it. They've got the truck jacked up12 ft high, but they still barely have 2-3 ft of ground clearance, because they've got that big old rectangular framework that basically becomes a plow and anchor. That might be fine if you're driving through swimming pools, or a flooded parking lot. But all that lift ain't doing jack squat if you still don't have any ground clearance.

    @SandersChicken@SandersChicken4 жыл бұрын
    • I think that sand paddle tires would work better for this too. The first guy to make it had his tires backwards and they paddle more than dig like that. Even the other driver that had their tires backward could have kept going because the trucks don't dig themselves in. The issue you get with a flyweight truck is that they tow the cable for the winch and it doesn't sound like much but 300 feet of it ends up.being a good chunk of weight the truck is dragging like an anchor.

  • I've been watching these videos for a few years and I'm not claiming to be a professional driver, but you can always tell they're not going to make it as soon as you hear the driver tap the gas pedal in the middle of the run. Keep it even on the gas pedal, don't tap the gas, don't let off even for a fraction of a second because your nose will dip into the mud wave that is created by your front axle. Those quick dips from tapping the gas make the mud wave bigger and it slows down your forward momentum.

    • Exactly, you can't let go and you have to push forward with full power, like a guy in: 7:26, he just flies by. Worst example is at 28:12, where this lady could even run the entire track with this truck but lets go of the throttle and she digs deeper and deeper every time

  • Just a polite comment. I retired to Thailand and rice fields are the same as mud bogs. The Thais don't keep putting on tires because with each extra set of tires reduces the pressure per square inch the tractor is putting on the ground. The Thais build a metal paddlewheel that fits to the single drive tire lug nuts. I've seen them work in bogs I wouldn't enter on foot.

Looking at the vehicles that went farthest they had them in this fashion. examples 28:15 she was from a stop able to climb up in the mud but she kept stopping. 4:21 crawled right through even though it was floating like a Sherpa somewhat.

  • Looks like tire tread design has a heck of a lot to do with it. Tractor tires are great for digging a trench until the rear axle gets burried. Lil Red Express has treads that are different to tractor design, and seem to keep the axle above the juice and give tons of forward bite. Tommy Rush's reversed tractor tires are maybe packing the mud under them, instead of trenching by pumping sideways - goes slower but gets it. Just saying. Well, and please would somone explain why they build the body, engine, frame so high lift? They just need to keep the axles above mud, and for that does the truck need such a high stance? May it's needed to make sure the tires won't rub the sheet metal? Oh, and look at Lil Red Express on some Mega Truck vids, and see how well the suspension is set up - not much rapid up&down motions.

  • The guy who made it drove on the left and close to the edge for the most part, where no one else was driving. He had his tread "backwards" and he just kept turning the wheel left and right. The dodge truck was very impressive and I wonder why he cut to the side. Maybe he didn't think he could make it past the dirt ridges at the end because of the small tires.

  • The way to do it would be to get a small wheel base (like tires not far from each other) so nothing like traction bars or even the frame will drag in the mud and will allow you to go over humps such as in this bounty hole. Also it’s important to have not too much of a lift, the lighter you are the better off you will be, in case you let off the gas you won’t sink. And of course you can’t forget putting a good ole American big block for the powerhouse 🇺🇸
