  • I have no idea how a 56 year old guy stumbled on this song today. As I sit here in tears at my office getting ready to go back to sit with my dying mother I want to thank you.

  • This song hit me hard. I was a raging alcoholic but I finally got sober. After I commented below, soon after everything changed. I got my family back. My kids have told me many times how proud they are of me and that they forgive me. They know that I am doing my best. When my son’s team lost their playoffs, I sent my son a text from this song. “Son, I know you did your best. I know there’s more to you than the wars you lose, you’ll see.” Thank you for giving those words. Through this song, I finally found a way to forgive myself for all that I have done. I now have the ability to be the father I want to be without the shame. I cannot understate how your work helped me. One day, when things are going wrong, I want you to remember that YOUR work brought this broken old man back from a bad place. I can’t help but think God will bless you as you blessed me.

    • This is actually about her family. She wrote it after her father died in the accident. Then her grandmother died of Parkinson's a week before they shot the video. She's since sat on this song and video for a while not sure she was ready to be an artist again. She was signed to the music label Def Jam and her big dream turned into a nightmare. I'm happy she's sharing her art again, and her and Tom together are building an empire. This song makes me cry so much.

Now that she is gone a huge piece is missing. I am sitting in my office trying not to lose it. The holidays will never be the same. Over the last few years we havent been able to get together as a family because of the pandemic. We had just started having get togethers again this year. It's all she wanted was for the family to be together. She did her best and absolutely has nothing to be ashamed of. She was a rock. Steadfast in her faith and family.

We fought eachother constantly, and I skipped state at age 16, before she killed me. Now at age 44, and just out of an abusive 16 year relationship from hell, ( I was moved state and was locked on a house for 4 years by my ex.), I basically had to live thru what she did, to understand her, and how she got her personality disorder , ( from childhood ptsd too, I have BPD - borderline personality disorder). I haven't seen her or any of my family for nearly 5 years now. I've had 9 months to process the damage done to me, and am finally living life !!! I slipped thru the system here, got no psychological help as promised , but I have healed myself, basically!! My goal is to go home, and have a much needed heart to heart with my mother before she passes. I pray I'm not too late 😓😓😓💝💝💝

For what it’s worth I lost my mother to brain cancer in ‘04 and my kids were little. I’ve always told them she became a star so she could watch over them forever and that any time they want to talk to her just look to the night sky and find the brightest star cause that’s her. They’re grown now and still refer to my mom as a star. I shared this to give you the same advice, the brightest star is Granny too, always there for you. I hope 2021 is better and that the fond memories you have of Granny give you comfort. 💛

There were a lot of things they did that hurt me, some things even that might have been abusive-but it helps to step back and take a look at the bigger picture. I know that they always loved me, and that they did their best with what they had, even if they weren’t perfect. All of us make mistakes. We’re only human.

    • Same.Song my philosophy. I don't hold things against my family. As I aged, I made my own mistakes - a light went on. Know my families backgrounds (childhoods). They did better than what they endured. Like you said - we all make mistakes. Extend them grace like we need for our screw ups. So many expect perfect parents, grandparents, siblings, children, friends. No one can fulfill that.

  • My Dad had been in the hospital for 33 days and counting due to Parkinson’s. His violent outbursts in the middle of the night was the reason my mother had to admit him. She’s not allowed to visit him and any of the long term care facilities are understaffed and overcrowded. I live 1200 miles away but call him everyday. My mother is a breast cancer and brain tumor survivor and it still feels like the struggle is just beginning... You’re not alone, any of you, and we are all in this together.

May you and Tom always soar. Never let the haters crush what you do. or what you two stand for. You guys speak to my heart in your songs and i support everything you two have done so far. Your songs mean alot to all of us. and motivate us to keep pushing forward in a world that crumbles around us when we are weakest. i just lost my mother mar, 8, 2024 and listening to this song. spoke to me on a level no one else could understand. Thank you Nova. Thank you Tom. you are stars in our dark skies!

He worked himself to death to take care of me and now he can't even take a shower by himself. Now it's my turn to take care of him. Idk why I shared this but this song made me think about it, I cried my eyes out. Thankyou for this amazing song.

He was very upset with my dad as he assumed he never tried to find him. When my dad passed away, his ex was told and she finally told us where our brother was.

  • This moved me, my mom had a pill addiction and recovered from it for me. Stood with my dad to battle our way out of low income. Then she got diagnosed with RSD and a few years ago it caused her to fall and hit her head dislodging her brain. I no longer lived at home and made it back in time for when they took her off life support. I held her hand in those last moments and was able to tell her thank and I knew she did her best.

He survived, but is paralysed all down his right side, a big piece of him was lost that awful day, he's just not the same dad I knew now. He's 75 now, so is my mother, she's dying of alzheimers. I've just escaped an abusive 16 year relationship, and can finally go back to my home state of Tasmania, Australia, so they can finally spend the last of their time with their daughter whom they haven't heard from, or seen for 5 years.
