  • Great work on the restoration, my only critique, as a glazer.. you have business cutting glass.. that being said, thanks for the video, I'm restoring a very similar level, so this video helps a bunch! Good work.

  • nice job on the glass cutting! I think I'll just pay the $2/window from Bon Ton.

  • Geezzz Maybe a little tape on the aluminum would’ve saved you a lot of work

  • I have a Stanley wood 4 Foot level no 2513HB with gold trim which survived a house fire, but it screwed up one of the bubble sets. Do you know what year these were sold? This one was given to me after the fire.

  • Thank you for posting this. My father in law passed away a couple of months ago and my wife asked me to go through his workshop. ( Bless his heart, the man was a tool hoarder. I found 6 lopping shears...who needs 6 lopping shears? LOL). Any how, I saw a wood level way in the back of his shed that was gray and multiple water spots. I decided to bring it home (with quite a few other tools) and it is similar to the one you restored in the video (mine has brass edges). With just some sanding, it looks better already. The wood overall is in good shape ( looks like cherry) but is VERY dry. I've never done restoration, so my question is (to anyone that wants to answer): would it be possible to add some kind of oil (like linseed or Tung oil) to restore some of the moisture before staining it? Or just oil and maybe varnishing? Any help would be appreciated.

    • I use boiled linseed oil and paste wax on all my antiques including guns levels etc easy to care for and brings out the natural wood color

  • Beautiful old tool. The camera angles and shaky filming made it hard to watch all the way through so I skipped ahead.
