I failed hard trying to make this cabinet
BUILD PLANS FOR SALE:
scottwalsh.co/collections/plans
I make this beautiful wall display cabinet out of 2 board feet of maple! That's right! Only 2 board feet!
I needed to make this cabinet because I need somewhere to house some special goodies for my dust collection system. Be sure to subscribe to my channel so you don't miss out on the next video where I'll be automating my whole dust collection system!
The box joint jig I used is Matthias Wandel's Screw-Advance Box Joint Jig. Check out his website (wood gears) for plans.
The picture frame jig I used for cutting the glass is the Logan Artist Elite Mat Cutter and I'm using the Logan 704-1 optional glass cutter. If you do a lot of picture framing, you need one of these to cut your mats, foam-core and glass.
The knife hinges used are Brusso 01B1312, 5/16" x 1 3/8"
The knob used is Brusso 01B1122, 5/16" x 3/16"

What is your most memorable glue up disaster? Let me know below!
The ones where I fail to keep my life together. Oh and on a sam maloof table build few years ago. I had to hammer that sucker into position. Almost felt bad for the tree that had to sacrifice itself to turn into that table.
super glue fingers together...
does sniffing count?????
Most memorable glue up disaster - or should I say ‘most educational glue up moment’? - is when I glued up 8 boards to make the front of a cabinet and didn’t spend enough time straightening the edges. Result: interesting organically shaped cabinetfront 😳

Beautiful! "Good enough, I'll deal with the consequences later" needs to be on a t-shirt. The floss behind the magnets was pure genius.
I'm pretty sure I didn't invent that trick, but can't remember where I saw it. Therefore I conclude that I invented it.
@@ScottWalshWoodworking Some electronic gadgets have a ribbon in the battery compartment, to aid removing the batteries. Maybe that is where you got the idea.
I like the eye rolls at the end...
I'm "pointing the way" to click on my end screen elements 😉
Someone is making FULL use of their royalty free music subscription. Epidemic sound is LOSING money on your account. lol. Excellent excellent video!
I always get my money's worth
Every time I watch one of your videos I think, ok, this is going to be the one that blows up his channel! They're so good and just keep getting better. I really don't understand KZhead - why aren't they promoting this more!! It's sooo good. Keep at it. It's only a matter of time and you'll be hanging a silver creator award in your shop.
Wow! Thanks for those kind words Billy! That really means a lot and keeps me going. If only I could make videos more frequently that might help a bit, but I can try and make the videos that I _do_ make as best as possible so I get those like, subscribes, and hopefully shares. Thanks for sticking with me Billy!
@@ScottWalshWoodworking seems like your channel is starting to pick up steam now. Keep up the good work!
parallelograms are seriously underrated. i have a lot of them in my house, and they make me happy.
This made me feel a lot better about gluing up a cabinet 3 times and failing horrifically.
the smile of accomplishment upon completion... priceless :D
I don't understand how you don't have more subscribers. You're hilarious, and most importantly, talented!
Both your comment, and your username made my night! Thanks for watching!
Great idea using the floss to easily retrieve your magnet.
Nice video and project Scott.
Thanks for watching RT!
Glad I'm not the only one who sounds like that during glue ups lol. It turned out great and I really like that finish you used.
You haven't seen anything yet! This doesn't even rank on my worst glue up experiences 😅
@@ScottWalshWoodworking lol!
Lincoln St. sent me here, and I have to say, that was hilarious. Subscribed!
Welcome aboard! Thanks for the kind words!
this guy makes content well above his subscriber count
Two words, bruh: corner clamps Great video. Thank you.
For what it’s worth, I also feel like an idiot. It never ever ever occurred to me to use dental floss under a magnet I was installing to be able to pop it back out. Nice idea. Thank you!
$30 in material, $525 in labour! Lol! Just kidding, great video! Great work!
omg u have a camera person now O.O increased production value~
adding a camera person is the last step in KZhead domination
@@ScottWalshWoodworking Yeah... Good Luck, With That. 😟
the only reason Scott has a girlfriend...
I like watching you because you're just as OCD and perfectionist as I am which usually leads to way more work than something needs to be.
LOVE IT!
That planer sequence really made my non existent ACL hurt lol.
Man, this was a blast to watch - great work in all respects!
Thanks so much Jon! That means a lot!
Starting to get the language of the carpenter. Recognizing words like mortise and....I've already forgotten all the rest. Oh ya: glue. I knew that one!
😂
OMG I know those words too!!!!
Loved the video and project! 06:21 was like looking into a mirror.
Thanks Heino! That's not even the worst glue up I've had by a long shot.
Love those bionic bifocals! Never give up! Way to build Scott!
Just another tool in my arsenal!
Super-entertaining video, Scott!! I’ll share with as many woodworking friends as I can. Hope to boost your views. All the editing tricks really add to an already entertaining topic. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks so much Pete! That means a lot!! A lot went into the production of this video and I hope to continue making lots more like it in the future. Thanks for sticking with me!
Thanks for the video, Scott, this was hilarious! :)
Thanks for watching Jens!
The heck! You have a camera person now? Moving up in the world! haha Great project! Learning experiences are always fun. (by always I mean...weeks after the event)
the wound is healing as we speak
If I'm not filming him, I'm being ignored LOL
@@rachelsalsberg5011 haha, well, great camera work!
The planer duck walk is the only way.
It's really the only positive thing that came out of that planer
Definitely feel your pain on that door glue up. I threw a Kreg corner clamp as far as I could out my garage door when I couldn't get it to actually do the thing it was supposed to do; clamp a corner joint and keep it even remotely square.🤣Haven't used it since. I enjoy Kreg tools but that one was a swing and a miss for me... Great video and thanks for keeping it real. 😊💯 - Jeremy
Hah! Sounds harrowing! Remind me to not buy that one! Thanks for watching!
Take a square and mount it to a table. Turn your box upside down with the bottom showing ontop. Place the box on the square and using a rubber mallet hit it until your measurements from corner to corner are even. Then using brads or staples secure your bottom to keep square.
Such a great project!
Thanks for watching Christopher!
Your editing is amazing! Great job
Thank you so much! A lot of work goes into the production!
Hey, Scott (and Rachel)! I recently discovered your channel and have really been enjoying it. I really like your narrative style and sense of humor, and the editing is really thoughtful -- it's fun and elevates the finished videos, but it's never distracting or cheesy. You two are a great team. I finally decided to comment on this one, though, because of your choice to include a moment where things went a little sideways. So many other KZheadrs only show the perfect parts, and that's an entirely different vibe... These projects seem more approachable because of bits like this. Things can get away from us sometimes, but we can recover and succeed anyway. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful display box.. keen to see what you Umm display inside it? I mean I’d put something fancy like a pocket knife collection or shiny muskie lures. You say you have something fancier but it’s dust collection...hmmm.
you must wait and see!!!! although, maybe don't get your hopes up 😂
I am a new subscriber, Scott. I have to say that the quality of your videos is outstanding. I don't know a thing about planning, staging, shooting, editing ... all that stuff that goes into making an enjoyable YT video, but I know that it takes a LOT of work. Plus, your instructional presentation and wit are a real pleasure to watch. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow to HUGE viewing numbers.
You, my good sir, are a funny guy! Very entertaining. But fancy dust collector display cabinet!? Housing controls?
maaaaybe 🧐
Wait, a cogged jig for the table saw to make finger joints?! Oh hello 🤓
You have amazing looking jigs and I love your vac-pac, did you make it? Got to say I think your finishing is very good. A few bits of kit in this one weren’t in your shop tour video?! Bob
Can definitely relate to the glue-up frustration. On one of my recent builds I realized that one of the panels didn't sit in the rabbet and was actually bowed out AFTER the glue was dry. I had to steam and wet the joint and gradually pull it apart and redo it. Where did you source the vacuum bag and C-channel clamp? I find them difficult to source here in Canada.
Hey, I’m a somewhat intermediate woodworker and I was wondering if you can do a video on the process of finishing? I’ve always had a hard time of finishing my wood projects to the standard I want and have always found the amount of products out there overwhelming. For example, I tried using semi gloss lacquer on wood project and didn’t really get semi glass… just somewhat a reflective surface? should I have used a poly coat first and then lacquer? Thanks!
I thought it was the Wood Wisperer's second channel...
I enjoy your videos. BUT: (1) no blade guard on your table saw, (2) no riving blade, and (3) blade is way too high. What gives?
AND ALL YOU NEED TO BUILD A 75 DOLLAR CURIO CABINET IS 10,000 IN TOOLS
I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE!?!?!?! YOU ARE BRILLIANT!! WHY ARE WE YELLING?!?!?!
@@ScottWalshWoodworking WELL I LIKE YOUR PROJECTS
6:16 This scene looks way too familiar to me. Stealing my script man!
I thought it'd be relatable to many. Thanks for watching!
Is Rachel filming for love or money? ;-)
I'm honestly not sure at this point 😂
Sell it to me
one MILLION dollars! Muhahahaha!
I am only guessing since I haven’t seen your band saw, but you may need a skip tooth blade.
