  • I would add, the worst thing with social media is it's essentially a popularity ranking system. Most people look at the amount of likes or followers a person has when deciding if they're cool. If a picture has 1000 likes as opposed to 3, the person is going to think, "they must be cool = I'll like that picture too, or they're cool." If a person has 3 likes or very little followers they'll believe that person isn't "cool" or popular and won't feel as inclined to "like" pictures or follower etc. People are just that simple. They don't think for themselves. They're social creatures that look to one another to rank each other and make decisions. That's why we have a generation of thoughtless zombie copycats. It's absolutely pathetic. Keep taking selfies! 🤢

  • I realised a thing while watching this documentary that these social media use the basic law of universe like you will get to see more of what you react more and keeps you hooked and charged up. It actually happens in real life. For example, People who are focused more and 'react' more upon the positive aspects of life will manifest more positives and happiness from life, and vice versa. Social media does a bit the same thing. It maybe a wrong analogy in various cases though... 😅😆

    • @Santana Garcia I may not be able to elaborate on this particular matter in detail, but I can state a few possibilities. Recommendations/suggestions generally based on one's previous watch history, search history, content skipping and etc. These data are stored to provide one a better experience on the platform. Storing and maintaining this data comes with expense. I have no solid proof to back the following - "data may be sold to ad agency/business profile to generate profits. These agencies generate advertisements based on huge number of users interest. And then ads are shown to other platforms. To make them 'ad-free', we, users have to pay for it." As I mentioned earlier, I have no proof whether netflix does this or not. It can be a possibility. And AI technology as you mentioned, sounds very intriguing to us. But it is predicting human behaviour, and by time it is close to 'imitating' us. And physical impact - it becomes addicting because of wide and diverse set of choices. At start you tube also started as video library/streaming platform. 15 years later, look where it is now.

It would be interesting to hear the contributors take on what to do now since the internet and “social media” is not going away? Are the positives outweighing the negatives? • This documentary is not about not participating. It is not about one platform being better than another. It is about AI and what you as an individual participate in. When you use a platform, you are being tested and measured every day based on what you do. If you only ever read news from the platforms you participate in online, you will only ever be fed information that will make you use the platform. It is not the platforms evil, but the evil caused by the AI in the platform. It does not care who you are but what will make you keep coming back. It will continue to test you to see what will make you interact. If that is miss-information, it will feed more. Learn to find different media outlets with information even when it contradicts your opinion so that you can build your own opinion. If everything you believe was written by someone in any media outlet, you don't really have an opinion. If you repeat what you heard, you don't have an opinion.

  • It's been three years I am off the Facebook. Just using Instagram these days and when ever I feel it's getting into my head to much I deactivate and stay away from it for months. Not craving for like, enjoying cooking, reading books gardening etc. I realised that all these social media platform sucks..I used to put phrases from books and sometimes I also used to upload photos of mine and I observed that there were always and always more likes to my personal photographs that my paintings, my garden images or anything apart from me present in the picture! Sad it was.
