Some months ago I was in a high school wrestling tournament, and, even though I was holding up, the guy was slightly better than me. During the second period, after a short scramble, he put me on my back, but I managed to roll him over to his back, immediately after he did that too, but the momentum helped me roll him on his back, I ran my feet towards his head, and I secured the pin, almost out of the mat

  • In defense of double kneepads, some people (myself included) really do need them. I would shot leading with either leg and the issue wasn't the mat burn. The problem was the impact. I had chronic runner's knee for years before I even stepped on the mat, then after just the first month of practices I could shoot more than a handful of times without immense pain. While I could have just focused on one side during a match, that was a no-go during practice since we all had to drill with both legs.

Ankle socks(not all the time but occasionally) singlet as low as i could although not ever lower than my knees and I didn't warm up too much i mean i would warm up before with my team and for a match or two before me but not much more than that. • What is funny is these are all true most of the time. But if you know that, you can use this to play mind games with your opponents. I wore two knee pads, always. I would sometimes wear ankle socks, soccer socks, high socks, or no show socks. At tournaments I would rarely warm up.I would usually sit next to my opponent while they were warming up and I would try to look as disinterested in wrestling as humanly possible. I won the vast majority of my matches. They think you're trash until your first match, then after you trounce some known guy, you can only mess with newbs who you were going to brutalize anyway. You do this at one tournament and you become known, immediately. Especially if you consistently take home hardware.

Then I actually just let it go high cause I saw my favorite Stanford wrestlers in hs wearing it high. The high look just started looking more badass. In terms of warm ups, I need my neck stretches at the very least, or else imma be sore af. I used asics headgear in hs. It was Velcro and cheap from big 5 but it wasn't the old school model. But it was comfortable for everyday practice. I needed double knee pads tho. I shoot with my left but also i tore my ACL on my right leg. Before surgery, it was there to defend my leg. After, it was there to hide the surgery scar cause any injuries are green lights for dirty wrestlers.

  • I know this video is 2-3 years old at this point, but I LOVE this topic. The "Weak Handshake", at least for me, was always a tell tale sign that you're about to destroy this kid standing in front of you. I remember I shook one kids hand my 8th grade season and almost literally crushed it. BUT, I do have one disagreement with you're list. The "Double Knee Pads" I was a double knee pads guy, Jr High all the through my Senior season of high school. Now I wasn't a State Place Winner caliber wrestler, but I wasn't a push over by no means and I rocked the double knee pads basically because they kept my knees from getting mat burn and I felt I was able to slide into my double and single leg attempts more quickly and smoothly. I never thought wearing double knee pads made a guy look goofy, but maybe when my back was turned everyone was pointing and laughing 😂, who knows. Great video and topic guys!

  • Fanco Wrestling: I have a question for you: If you (As Referee) discover that two boys are total newbies (Like Hardly moving around and not touching other for minutes), then how would you introduce them to rough housing?

    • If they're young, I'd probably just urge them on, like "come on guys, take a shot" in a nice way. If they're older, I'd hit them with a double stall!

    • @@FancoWrestling Well, they were young and the closest they actually got was a flying football tackle. That is when i had two good wrestlers do a short wrestling demo, then each one got a practical demo from one of the (trainers), as i have come to call tbem. Finally, let them rest before having them wrestle each other again to (determain who qualities for the activity). Both of them had good things to say, so they both qualified.
