March 20, 2006
TD Garden
Boston, MA
Boxscore: www.basketball-reference.com/b...
Kobe Bryant: 43 points(16 in the 4th), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, 18-39 FG, 0-5 3PT, 7-10 FT
Paul Pierce: 26 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 8-19 FG, 2-8 3PT, 8-11 FT
Another game, another 40 point performance by Kobe Bryant in his 2005-06 campaign. Coming off two heartbreaking losses in a row, the Lakers, in a dogfight with the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Hornets for the 7th and 8th seeds, desperately needed a victory. Despite very physical defense by the Boston Celtics and premier defender Tony Allen, Bryant was still able to muster up 43 points, oohing and aahing the crowd with dazzling trick shots and fadeaways left and right.

    • Dude Perfect8 And people compare today’s players to the 2000s like it was eerily similar. This was still a highly non-efficient era as a whole. Tim Duncan was rivaling guards today with inflation. It was a different game.

  • Kobe was crazy back in 06. This video among other shows how you could still be physical with Kobe despite the rule changes back then. He would have averaged around 45 ppg if he would have got the D-wade, Lebron, Iverson, etc. treatment. Had to take 27 shots just to get 10 freethrow attempts per game.

  • I like these kinds of highlights, they show the missed shots too. And seeing Kobe air balling with Tony Allen on him then accepting the challenge to go right back at him and be aggressive to score is a beauty to watch. Players in the NBA now will just assume they cant score against Allen so they will pass it up instead, but Kobe said "fuck that, gimme the ball back!"

But believe it or not, I have never seen a player with more favor from referees than James Harden. If you watched as much basketball as I have, you would agree.

Look up the teammates that Kobe played with after Shaq left and before Pau Gasol showed up. Most of them were journey men players a best. No All Stars! Kwame Brown and Smush Parker should have never plaed in the NBA and they were starters for Lakers It's amazing Kobe was able to accomplish what he did during this time!

  • @BettaWithToast Early in the offense plenty of times he's seen with an iso from the top. Not counting those when the shot clock is running down. But early in the offense, he would bring the ball up, iso/pick n roll and takes a pull up J. Ppl gotta put more trust into Pau, i know it's hard to do that since he always chokes in the playoffs, but he always delivers when given the ball in early offense. Early in the game.

He just finished his 16th year and is STILL averaging 27.9 PPG. 30 PPG in the Playoffs. It's only going to go up with Nash helping him rest his legs. The totals are going to stack up when it's all said and done, and Kobe will be the GOAT.

  • @AJVersatility19 Pau doesn't shoot because he's a passive player he gets the ball plenty. And Kobe has moments in key situations that he seems to be directing Pau into the post and make the pass to him to try to build his confidence because he knows he can't win without him. And you're right a player who needs to dominate the ball can't play with another player who needs to dominate it. Kobe is that guy on the team Pau has to fall in line. However Kobe and Shaq made it work.

  • @AJVersatility19 Phil Jackson "opens up the floor" for Kobe to play pick and roll in situations so its the offense. The best player on the team and one of the best in the league if not the best will have the ball ran through him more often than other players. For some reason every time Kobe does that he's going away from the offense. Pau gets plenty of touches and doesn't do anything with it resulting in low shot clock shots for either Kobe or Fisher which is marked as an iso.
