Top tip - when doing a gearbox oil change, ALWAYS undo the filler plug first, to make sure that you can. You’ll have a really bad day if you drain it then find out you can’t fill it again Edit - aaaaaaand I’ve just got to the bit in question 😁
Six videos into this journey and I don’t think there’s any more arse crack left to see.
Put it in neutral on the main gearbox before selecting low range👌🏼 doesn't work in gear or in park.

I had to listen to that three or four times to confirm they were bold... Being road tyres they must have been very bold to attempt that, a valiant effort. good job they weren't bald.
Check the build date on the low range switch... Early and later look the same but the later ones won't work with earlier cars and vise versa ..... It's the circuit board underneath to check ..
My stupid discovery for transmission and differential filling. Buy a weed sprayer and cut off the nozzle. Bend the tube with a heat gun. Possibly remove the pickup filter. Job done, it's great

Slap some Michelin Crossclimates on there. Actually pretty good for off-road and snow. Plus they're All Seasons technically so they won't kill your fuel economy

I love how the slide scared will out of the drivers seat. I was driving in Boston just after a blizzard and my jeep slid sideways across a street when I was stopped. Definitely a humbling moment.

I've got the same generation td6 range rover and had a lot of experience with them. General grabber at3s are a great tyre, also if you take it off roading again and ever struggle up muddy hills because the traction control cuts in, take the abs fuse out, it'll get a lot further! The centre diff on this model is a mechanical lsd so it doesn't get affected by losing the abs like the later cars with the 6 speed. My gearbox is still original at 184k miles somehow

I remember driving a Range Rover of this era around the Land Rover test track in Solihull. They have a jungle river section which is so deep, the bow wave was just below the bonnet. They're very capable vehicles off road.
Big mud terrain tyres, bull bars, heavy duty winch, snorkel, rally lights, yellow flasher on the roof, cb radio and super cool ariel, roof rack with petrol cans and kayak etc.,ladder up the back and big spare wheel on the bonnet or back door. Full on all terrain rescue vehicle. 👍
Goodyear duratrac tyres should be next and steel sump guards. Mantec used to do amazing ones. Having had one of similar vintage these are great off-road machines if you let it do the work.

Good job it's not a Mk3 Granada with an A4LD slushbox. Service procedure for it is to remove the transmission oil pan, change the filter, and then have to helicoil around 50% of the bolt holes in the transmission casing, as Ford made the transmission out of chocolate.

With the gearbox change that oil is very black and it should be quite red, showing loads of contamination. There maybe a process to disconnect an gearbox oil cooler line and pump out dirty oil from the external lines and refill again. This was certainly the case with my l200.

Ya'll should definitely put some slightly oversized AT's on that range rover! I have 275/55/20 sized Vredestein Pinza AT's on my L322 Supercharged, and it is perfect!

Try to reset the gearbox adaptation since you changed the gearbox oil. Im not too sure if its possible on this era or Land rover

Did you fill the gearbox while engine was running? Because oil level on automatic gearbox you check with running engine.
People underestimate the landies and rangies.....they are very capable off road. I dont know why they were so surprised..... Landrover have been making vehicles to drive in those conditions for 70 years.

Did the same thing while servicing a transmission. Found that the filler port bolt had been thoroughly rounded by someone else who had tried to get it off first. Thanks to a rounded nut extraction socket and I was back on track. Did I replace the bolt? No, of course not. That’s a problem for future me, and I hate that guy.
Remove air shocks and fit some bc coils and rise the car! Muddys full 4*4 mode haha
