Would you rather 1) listen to music 2) pay 2 months of rent
or make music and along the way make money. studio producers use VERY expensive headphones to make music at the highest caliber.
well, that's kinda inaccurate. Most audio hardware the studios use for commercial production are not that high-end as you would think they are. Since their product is for general consumer's listening, it's unnecessary to use super high-end headphones to edit and tune specific frequencies since consumer market won't use those audio setups anyway and on top of that, they also have to keep their cost in mind. They are essentially business who will have to make as much profit as possible so using high-end audio gear is not a good option.

The funny thing it is partly true for people who have headphones worth thousands of dollars. A lot of people are joking that the deeper you go into the audiophile rabbit hole, the more you start to listen to your gear instead of your music (which is true to some cases)

Senna De hond then again - I appreciate my AKG K712 Pro at home, while the comfort and the ANC of the AirPods Pro makes them perfect for on-the-go. Ofc the sound quality of AirPods is no where near that of high end headphones, but that‘s not the point. Abyss 1266 Phi: "Amateurs..."
@@samuelmanny6231 Eh, I think Apple will stick to a more consumer-centric market. They focus heavily on that end of the audio spectrum. Though I'm sure some form of Airpods Pro Max is coming, I don't think Sennheiser is really worried about it. They've been makin' high-end audio equipment for audio professionals for 75 years now, and at least a few of their products are priced lower than the current Airpods Max. Sennheiser has been a much-lauded name in professional audio for that long for a reason: they know their audio. But I am quite interested to see if your prediction holds true, and Apple leans into the professional audio market.
Samuel Manny no way Apple is entering the high-end audiophile market. Get out of la la land.

Lol for the most part the speakers/headphones themselves are a much tighter bottleneck than the digital processing if it's 128k or higher because it's much harder to control the complexity of the physics of mechanical parts
@@arande3 Mastering and production quality is an even bigger bottleneck that anything else.
@@CallanElliott That's really interesting that you have the opposite experience. I've mastered thousands of tracks over the course of 10 years and I repeatedly find my speakers to be the bottleneck in what I hear. Note that I'm talking SPECIFICALLY about the spatial dimensions of the sound. In terms of frequency balance, energy, and impact mastering is definitely a huge deal.
@@arande3 Okay, I'm talking as a listener. Obvisouly if you're on the other end of the pipe it's different.
I would say: when you get more high end drivers, you start to hear the difference in mastering quality, and in my experience, songs I used to like, I do less so because they don't sound as good anymore on the better speakers/headphones.. and conversely, I tend to start appreciation other tracks more, just because they sound so good on my good system. BTW: I'm an audio developer, working on perceptual coding atm.. I'm pretty sure most modern codecs can sound transparent at high enough bitrates on any sound reproduction system. They spend also a lot more on buying some apartment ...but it's still headphones. It's 2 different things.
It’s because headphones are headphones, and a vacation is a vacation. For headphones, they’re used for sitting in your room or whatever and listening. Whereas on a vacation, you’re flying to an ENTIRELY DIFFERNT FREAKING COUNTRY! (most of the time though) and staying in a temporary house that people prepared for you and having fun for a week. Peteto Chibs sorry i should clarify that i meant only what the response up to say 20khz matters to our ears, so yes if it needs to reach 48000hz to achieve a linear extension to 20hz so be it but that actual data is a marketing gimmick right? If it only reached 34000hz but was steady up to 20000hz that's just as good as it reaching 48000hz right? As not all drop offs are equal from driver to driver. It's hard to describe the way that high-res audio played over high-end equipment sounds to non-audiophiles, but it is definitely more of an experience than you would expect. So much more detail - it's like finding little treasures in songs that you've heard hundreds of times. Most people don't take the time to enjoy quality audio in the same way that they would watch high-res video on a $2-3,000 TV, and it is hard for many people to consider spending the same amount for an amazing pair of headphones (and an appropriate DAC/amp for them). Great audio/sound analogies for non-audiophiles - Great review!
for real! Listen to some song with for example a full on decked out genelec system in a room designed for the best audio and then listen to something on your average bt speaker..
or wharfedale, kef, b&w, ba or any proper hifi-system
nah, it's just different master produce different quality. it's no use getting over 44.1/16, all you get is supersonic sound you can't hear (according to nyquist theorem). The dynamic range in mastering plays more important role (as in studio master these days compressed the dynamic range to make their music loud) not bit depth because to achieve the full dynamic range of 16 bit, you would have to crank up the volume till you become uncomfortable. However I won't deny that Hi-res in recording and mastering is completely relevant but as a delivery format? not so relevant. Think of it like watching a 4K HDR TV, Which is more noticeable? 1440p vs 2160p or HDR vs Non-HDR? It seems like streaming service like tidal uses different master for their track when you choose master quality as opposed to Hi-Fi and they credit the improved sound quality to hi-res.
High Res audio is nonsense. Even CD is more than what 99.99% of the population need in terms of quality. Maybe some super human genetic freak with an IQ of 150 plus, hearing range of a bat and has trained as a musician and sound engineer would actually hear to the fullest extent CD's.
@@bighands69 quite alot of audiophiles can tell the difference in blind-testing different files.. 24bit/196khz sounds better than 16bit/96khz. The former one simply has more resolution, so more detail/better controlled sound/soundstage etc. BUT you can only hear these differences using proper headphones which have good detail retrieval with a quality dac/amp-or-IEM's with a solid dap or amp/dac. Then there is also 32bit/384khz which has an even higher resolution than FLAC, now this requires even better headphones to notice the differences in quality. Most audiophiles are happy with FLAC's since they don't take up much space and the difference they notice compared to DSD isn't worth the extra space an DSD-file requires.

Btw, if you've not listened to Purple Rain (in particular, When Doves Cry) on a nice set of headphones, you should. That dude was a ridiculous perfectionist in his mastering and the soundstage on that album is nuts, especially considering it was all done on an analog console.
Also, 'Kiss' is a completely different song from what you're used to hearing on the radio when you get it from a clean source on nice headphones. I can barely think of another song that is mastered across the range from silence to dance-floor banger. There's actually a couple of instruments in that I didn't even know were in that song until the first time I heard it on some nice, balanced, recording-monitor level headphones.
Worth giving anything on the Earth Wind & Fire greatest hits album a listen as well. All their classics have production through the roof. Tons of sound stage and instruments you won't pick up without a decent headphone, and they just sound better the fancier the rig.

I got my HD800 in the first batch that came out in May 2009 (SN00660) and love them, although they are quite picky about what amp you drive them with. And aftermarket cables really take the sound to the next level, after you settle on the best DAC and amp 1st. Last September I upgraded to the HD800s and my son bought my original pair for $595, with new earpads that cost me about $80 shipped - some people spend less on their entire headphone!

Sander169 I have tried many headphones in this price range, no way that they can outperform dt770/990 or sennheisers 500 series.
juliangst Jesus.. NO SHIT they dont compare to the dt 770/880/990 lineup which originally ranged from 200-350$... But they actually can hold up against 558/559s. First time ive discovered them i was listening to my old 990pros on a daily but was still impressed how good the superlux headphones were. That was like 5 years ago. Its not entirely fair to directly compare the Utopia to the 820s in this video as the Utopias are open back. The Utopias straight up destroy the 820s when listening in a quiet environment. It would be fairer to compare the Utopia to the HD800s. In this case, both headphones have their own sound signature which takes longer to describe.
grey how would you know? I'm willing to bet that you haven't heard either...820s are remarkably close to the 800s despite being closed back...also when you spend that much on cans they mostly stop being "better" than the other, they are just different.

I disagree. He's not an audiophile, he doesn't really explain the sound signature of these headphones. Just that they "sound awesome". A real review would tell us how detailed the low-end, mids and treble are. Express the imaging, dynamic range or sound signature and compare these to other high-end headphones.
SugarFreeTargets yep. I still prefer for example Aeons over these. He's just not audiophile and its probably his first time with decent headphones
he has HD800s so hes not new to hifi gear but his audience arent audiophiles so he has to dumb it down a bit
