Easy, safe, fun woodshop project for kids! This Video brought to you by Woodcraft. Visit www.woodcraft.com for all your woodworking projects!
I've wanted to carve a whistle for a really long time. It turns out it's WAY easier than I ever thought, and is a GREAT project to do in the woodshop with your kids! Give your kids a fun, safe woodworking project! Whether you want to make a dog whistle or a dinner whistle, this is an easy, quick, safe project that only requires some scrap wood and a couple of tools. Grab a scrap piece of 2x4 or hardwood, a dowel, a drill bit and a carving knife or a saw and we're off to the... uh... where do you whistle? This easy diy wooden whistle project, and having the opportunity to teach two of my favorite kids some shop safety and tool use was definitely the highlight of my month. If you pay attention, you might also learn a thing or two about knife safety too. My favorite knife grip for wood carving, the chest lever grip. It's a great way to get a powerful cut using leverage that keeps you safe while carving at the same time.

I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable." I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. Get a better roadmap of how to grow deep roots and live the life you want subscribing to this channel. Make sure to check out the different playlists for the topics you're most interested in! My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots. Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support- whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

  • My favourite whistle to make as a kit was taking a piece of green willow branch, cut to a few inches long, roll it on a table to loosen the bark, slide the bark cylinder off intact, carve the air path in the wood, cut the notch in the bark, then slip the bark back over. It's the same general shape as Anne's design, just smaller. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me!

  • When we were kids we lived next to county housing project! My dad could whistle really loud an when he whistled at nite, it was signal, not just for us, his sons, but for all the project kids to go home, an they did! Dad delivered milk & ice cream, an mom owned a catering wedding cake business & we had horses, so all project kids wouldn't miss out on!) Haha! P.S. at that time dad built our entire house from foundation up, so all us, including project kids, learned safety & woodworking at early age! I taught school, but made my money building! (Every teacher in school had second job or wife or husband with second job, an many were builders)

What a bond that will make, something those kids are going to take with them for life. And you have no idea what you may start with some of them, both kids and parents. Just so you know it is not you the alpaca's are slow to learn. lol It was hard to tell who had more fun you or the boys. Anne thanks for what you do and being such a positive influence for so many people. Keep up the good work and God bless you and your family.

I mean something real, not like I cardboard sword with a masking tape grip. 😄 ...not implying that a cardboard sword isn't worth the effort. It's a beginning step on the way to bigger and better projects. Cute video Anne. 👍

I have wanted to move them to the lathe. They have been very good with the scroll saw.! This is the cross over!! I am going to use deer or elk horn but this is the project!! I'm working at this point on the dremel because mom and dad are a little freaked out by knifes. Wink, wink they dont need to know that what happens in PaPa's work shop stays with us!! Thank you!!
