Woodshop design is super important, from workflow to organization to aesthetics, lets design functional spaces that we WANT to create in! My tiny woodshop was great for handtool woodworking, but my power tools were starting to rust, so even though conditions weren't perfect, I decided to do something about it! Use what you've got to get what you need!

MORE ABOUT ME
I'm Anne of All Trades. In NASHVILLE, I have a woodworking, blacksmithing and fabrication shop, a selection of furry friends, and an organic farm. Whether you've got the knowledge, tools, time or space to do the things you've always wanted to do, everything is "figureoutable."
I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. With no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break and build the things I need.
8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool.
My goal is to learn and share traditional techniques and skills while showing my peers how to get from where they are to where they want to go, how to do the things they are passionate about, and what can be done TODAY to engage their own community and grow deep roots.
Whether it's carving spoons, making my own hand tools, restoring my antique truck or growing heirloom tomatoes, the farm and workshop definitely keep me busy and support - whether financially through Patreon, through shopping my affiliate links, through buying merchandise, plans or project videos, or even just liking, commenting, and sharing my content with others helps me GREATLY to keep producing quality content to share.

  • After I retired and closed my 10,000 sq ft shop, I had the urge to continue woodworking on a smaller scale - a 300 sq ft garage! Everything is on wheels except the dust collection and air cleaner. I can move equipment out to my covered patio. I did the wiring so that I could have multiple machines operating with air and dust collection. Sweet. Just can’t be me without wood, dust, projects, glue, tools and beer (occasionally and not while using machines. Also, smoking cigars…). What a great life! You are an inspiration to all. Thank you.

  • Anne, I've followed your journey for the past few years. Taking that risk of moving to Tennessee was brave. You've learned important life lessons. Just because something is hard, doesn't mean you can't do it . I'm so proud of you and the turnaround you are making. Keep up the good work.

  • "Things don't exist in my world if I can't physically see them". I have many of the same struggles as you and have said this quote, almost ver batim, many times to my wife. People can feel alone in their struggles until that moment when someone says the perfectly relatable thing. I got really excited as soon as you said that (and had to pause the video to write this before I get distracted and forget.)

  • I live in a part of Australia that has an average of 80% humidity, plus I live by the ocean. I bought some magnetic sheets and then got a motor trimmer to glue vinyl to one side. The magnet stops the atmosphere getting to the cast iron and the cost was fairly cheap. I now have zero rust on all my machines. Yay.

  • You should consider using starrett M1 on your machines as well as cover them with a zerust covers, they make them in many sizes to fit table saws, bicycles and even motorcycles. If you can't find one close enough in size to work with your machines you can always modify them to fit better. I know a few professional furniture makers who use them to cover every machine they have, if it works for shops in Florida near the beach it should work for you in Tennessee.

I'm hopefully breaking ground on a shop building this year. It would make farm projects so much easier to build them in a shop and then haul them out with the tractor. Looking forward to seeing the school of all trades completed. My wife and I are excited to come take classes!

My buddy has what is the magic window, which allows long materials to be managed in his shop. when I built my shop, I took into consideration, things like how high is a sheet of plywood corner to corner, what if I want to wash the floor, where will I keep special things for later projects....outdoor power for the welder, a hot water spigot for outside... hurricane strength galore... now I am living up near Cashiers NC. I will soon be building a new shop up here. I am excited again...
