  • It is so refreshing to see a superhero writing that enjoys unapologetic heroism rather than needless lampshading or a jaded outlook. Yes, dark superhero stories are engaging, but having Leo as a pure-of-heart makes him more worthwhile as a leader, paired with the tenacity of Raph, eagerness for innovation in Donatello, and uncorrupted innocence through Mikey since we understand what each brother has to offer, and we see the weight of Spinter's compassion through each of the four brothers' actions.

  • Rogen said he wanted the animation to, "Look like it was drawn by teenagers doodling in their notebooks at school" and that, "we went through multiple passes with [the animation team] asking them for rougher and rougher designs." I think they totally nailed it. It really does look like we're seeing almost a comic book style retelling of the Turtle's exploits, as told and drawn by the Turtles themselves.

  • I love the juxtaposition of their weapons by splinter to teach them lessons: Mikey can't concentrate, so he gets the weapon that requires the most concentration Raf is too aggressive, so gets Sai, which are expressly designed to be non-lethal Donnie is too cerebral and prone to overthinking, so he gets a plain-ol' stick Leo is too compassionate, but also reckless, so gets the only weapon designed expressly and exclusively to kill as he'd also be the most unlikely to ever use them to kill consciously, and must be focused and disciplined in order to NOT kill with them.

    • they also play into their strengths as well, perfectly balanced, mike has the most raw talent (see 2012) he can move on the fly and without much thought, perfect for the quick hand movements needed for the nunchucks raph likes to run in fists fired up, he's an up close and personal type-a guy, so he gets short range melee weapons, the twin sai don is a genius and gets a simple weapon, sure, but its long range can give him space and time to use his quick mind and creative intellect to think up his next move, and how to incorporate his bo into it as well. leo is the most devoted to traditional ninja training. he has that calm discipline that is very much necessary and needed for his dual katanas.

    @Im_Ish@Im_Ish3 ай бұрын
    • Yup tought the same, but maybe a small timeskip could work. Doubt the Foot Clan will be established and start acting over night, stuff like that requires time, they're teens too, puberty hits you like a train. I myself remember a friend of mine noticing how my voice started changing in a span of 6 months. Also it could work as a excuse to see how they adapted to the human world and a daily life in it.

  • Something genuinely INTERESTING to me on a meta-textual level is that a lot of the Turtle stories I've known growing up has had them build their family of other outcasts or maintaining their secrecy through love, but still separate from society. No matter what, even though they were heroes, they were still ostracized. This movie... it changed that. The weirdos get to LIVE in society this time. It's just such an interesting sign of the times we live in. Acceptance is hard won, but possible. When before the best they could hope for was building a home away from the public eye.

  • @7:24 is basically just a jumble of New York City cultural bits. Seth Rogan let the four actors improvise that scene. Bacon, Egg and Cheese is a breakfast sandwich that you can get at the local bodega (Remember Harley Quinn - Birds of Prey?). Also the whole "we outside", "let me get a bev (beverage)", "yerrr" (simply a call-out like yo), and Timbs (Timberland boots). Basically New York City teenagers (turtles) being teenagers from New York City in the modern sense.

  • This movie makes me desperate for more animated movies that are willing to just put their voice actors together in a room so they can directly bounce off of each other. The chemistry between the turtles was on-point in a way that feels so rare for feature animation, where it's common for voice actors to never meet during production at all Also, wasn't expecting so much of the plot to involve direct Attack on Titan references. I haven't seen any of the more recent iterations of TMNT past the early-2000s 4kids one, so I don't know if Donatello being written with an anime and manga obsession is a new thing, but I love that direction for the character. He is easily my favorite turtle in this

  • I honestly never thought I'd see one of my favorite film reviewers do one of my favorite franchises!! Is there anyway you'd be willing to do another TMNT review? The ROTTMNT (Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles) movie has animation and character development that is right up your alley and I'd love to see your take on this version of TMNT that gets looked over so often!!!

  • My cousin, my sister and I were SO HYPED for the movie. It's been harder for the three of us to be able to go to the movies together, but we were all very excited to watch it. We snuck in a pizza wrapped in aluminum foil and honestly had a blast. The scene where mutants and humans are working together? Healed some of my inner child. One of ghe best movie experiences in 2023, hands down

  • It's true that they look kind of weird without any colours on their faces and kind of look like mutated frogs, but I ADORE how they dropped their masks at the end. I always thought (for 11 years now!) that if I ever saw them take off their masks aside for sleeping, it would feel weird to me plot-wise, but this movie made me realise how much I love it when they don't need them symbolically! 😁😍 They can be actually just 4 normal teenagers in a normal life - do you know how much I want the other turtle versions to also have this opportunity and freedom? Because seriously, they all soo deserve it, not just these wholesome brothers! It feels absolutely great and freeing to see them like this!!! 🤩😍🥰

Notable to me are the Ferris Bueller scene (“Dips**ts on a Roof”) & the Times Square visit during the flashback is made up of 2 pieces called “What’s the Worst That Could Happen” & “The Worst That Could Happen”.

They're so goofy and silly in the show and the love they have for each other *cannot* be understated, and while I'm biased as I started on it I love how they represent the turtles!! Mutant Mayhem and Rise have similar vibes in a few ways to me, and it feels like very similar spirits. It's not everyone's favorite but the show is great when given a chance and the movie is fantastic in my opinion, and I'd love to see a win video on it

  • 16:14 actually the 2012 Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually did well in portraying them as actual teens:for example Leonardo’s arc throughout the entire show was from him trying to be a good leader but is pretty awkward in execution to being a badass and Donatello being the nerd of the group,who’s usually picked on by the others (and has the crush on April (played by Mae Whitman)).I highly recommend it.
