  • The ants putting dirt on the slug shows a level of problem-solving skills that I would NEVER have expected from them!!! This had to come from a single ant getting an idea to use something to soak up that slime, and either knew dirt was good for the job, or experimented until they found the right material. That, or some saw the benefit of it having happened by accident, understood what had happened well enough to want to employ that method again (which also shows planning ahead), and reproduced the conditions. Either way, that is some kind of impressive behavior for such a small-brained creature. So wild... wow!

  • Despite them being such simple creatures at their core, Ants are some of the most amazing insects out there. They can perform agriculture, keep livestock, work in symbiosis with countless other species of insect, wage wars, establish borders... and even adapt to handle almost anything they come across. And yet I still get surprised, I had no idea that some species produce "Kings", or that some ants can revolt against unsatisfactory queens. Billions of these tiny, simple insects working together to perform such complex and almost humanlike tasks, and they're so tiny that this happens all around us without us even noticing. (Or them really noticing us!)

  • These clips are fascinating, and somewhat creepy in parts. But I've learned to thoroughly appreciate them over the last couple of years. There's a channel called Ants Canada and the guy whose channel it is, is a real expert in the subject. He raises colonies from a single queen. Those first eggs (in the first video) become "nanitics", and they're smaller and shorter-lived than the future generations. But they're the ones raised by the queen, who turns the muscle tissue from where her wings were attached into a sort of soup for the larvae. She won't eat anything until the nanitics can fetch food themselves. The channel's owner is so dedicated to ants that he's having a house built with a two-storey "ant room" in it! If you like ants, I thoroughly recommend you go watch him.

    • @@King_Minos64 yeah I looked it up and it seems that queens need alot of proteins and when that is scarse, ants eliminate the queen is weaker and can not produce eggs like the other. On rare cases workers go all they way and kill the last queen, dont know why exactly. Workers survive a bit more and then they also die without a queen.
